Overview

FDMEE has introduced a hassle free great way to load multi-period files in the same way as single period files are
loaded.

We no longer need to have an excel file with the location name, scenario, start period and number of periods in the
file.

All of these and other features are incorporated in the Import Format itself - there is a new file type introduced in
the import format called "Multi-Period".

The multi-period format is very useful for loading budget and forecast data where data for the entire year or multiple
years needs to be loaded.

Chapter 1

“In this document, I have defined the Source as a FILE (.txt) and Target as HFM
Application.”

Goal:
Load a file containing data for multiple periods in rows to a Target Application.

Source file (.txt)

4

Import Format
Select the File Type as Delimited Numeric Data and File Delimiter according to your source file.

In the mappings section of the Import Format, map the source files column numbers with the target application
dimensions.

In the source file, we have a Period and the Year dimensions so we need to define a Source Period Row column
explicitly for the YEAR and the PERIOD dimension.

Adding a Source Period Row for Year dimension

5

Adding a Source Period Row for Period dimension

6

Location Setup
Create a new location and define the Import Format

Period Mapping Setup

Setup a Global mapping by defining the Prior Period Key and the Period Key and define the Target year.
7

Source Mapping setup

It is very important that you need to define a Source Mapping or Application Mapping and set it to Explicit and
define the same in the Data load rule.

Application Mapping can be defined based on the requirement of the Source and Target Appliation.

Defining a Calendar
In this Source mapping we are defining a Calendar name in the Calendar column, and so the load will be based on
this since it is a Multi-Period (Row) load. Whereas In Multi-Period (Column) load this Calendar setup is not
required.

Define the Calendar name and complete the Source Mapping setup.
8

Category Mapping
Setup a Global / Application Mapping in the Category mapping based on your Application.

Data load Mapping

Set the POV accordingly based on Location, Category and Target and define the Mapping accordingly.
9

Define the Mappings for all the dimensions.

Data Load Rule

Create a new Data Load Rule for the Multi-period load

Set the Period mapping type to Explicit and define the calendar accordingly from the LOV.
10

Define the import Format accordingly from the LOV

Under Source Options, choose the File Name correctly by clicking on the Browse option.
11

Executing a Data load Rule

Click on EXECUTE button to execute the Data load Rule under Data load Workbench.

While Executing the Data load Rule select the START and the END period and Run the rule

Once when the Rule has executed a Process ID will be generated

12

Once when the data load is successful you can see the Orange Fish in IMPORT VALIDATE and EXPORT columns.

You can verify the data for all the Months in the Data load Workbench

Once when the export is completed you can see the .dat file generated under the OUTBOX folder in FDMEE.

OUTPUT
You can validate the data in the Target Application by setting the GRID based on the POV
13

Chapter 2

“In this document, I have defined the Source as a FILE (.txt) and Target as HFM
Application.”

Goal
To load data for multiple periods in columns to the Target Application

Source file (.txt)

Import Format

Select the File Type as Multi-Period (Multi Column) and File Delimiter according to your source file.

In the mappings section of the Import Format, map the source files column numbers with the target application
dimensions.

The dimension mapping is the same as the single period file.

The main difference here is the Amount column mapping. In the Expression column for Amount, we need to define
an expression.
14

Add Expression Editor

In the editor window, select the following:

Expression Type: Column=start,end ; Driver=Period

Expression Value: column number of the first period in the source file, column number of the last period in the source file.

Example: - If the source file has budget values from Jan to Dec and the amount for Jan starts from column 7, the Dec amount
would be at 18. Specifying 7,18 in the Expression Value will pick the amounts starting from column 7 and load them in the
correct month for the next 12 subsequent amounts up to Dec.

Location Setup
Create a new location and define the Multiperiod-Import Format

Period Mapping Setup

Setup a Global mapping by defining the Prior Period Key and the Period Key and define the Target year.

You can also setup a Source Mapping or Application Mapping and set it to Explicit and define the same in the Data
load rule.
15

Category Mapping
Setup a Global / Application Mapping in the Category mapping based on your Application.

Data Load Rule

Create a new Data Load Rule for the Multi-period load,

Since we have defined the Expression in the Import Format i.e “Driver=Period”, you will find a new Column called
“Column Headers”.

This option is mainly used to load a specific month of data to the Target year.
16

Data load Mapping

Define the Mappings for all the dimensions in the Source Value and the Target Value.

Executing a multi-period – Data load rule

A location with multi-period import format is not executed from the Data Load Workbench. It is only executed
through the Data Load Rule.

To execute a multi-period data load rule, go to Data Load Rule, click on Execute and enter the details as shown
below

Select the start and end periods according to the data that is required to be loaded and click Run. Data will be
imported, validated and exported for all the periods between the start and end period range.
17

Significance of Column headers

Using the “Column Header”, you can define the order of periods,

Mainly this Column Header is used to do a Multiperiod load for selected month or two, three months
simultaneously

Example
I have defined a Column header for January 2007 and when I execute a rule, It will not ask for Start and
End period, but it automatically picks January
18

Executing a Data load rule after assigning Column Headers

In this, you will not get the option to select the start and the end period.

This will force the periods to load data to the appropriate months as defined in the column headers.

Result based on Column header
