Assumptions about SEO

I do not know what comes to your mind when you read or hear the word ‘SEO’, but as far as

my mind is concerned, I think of a ‘four eyes’ nerd riding on his fast steed of assumptions,

spurring it towards any direction that may have the dimmest chance of having an oasis to

slake the thirst of the rider and the mare. Though there are no facts or figures available on

that, but SEO just might be the most misunderstood idea over the internet. There are

assumptions about SEO which might make you roll on the floor laughing out loud. There are

those geniuses who think that littering content with repeated keywords is the best SEO

technique, yet with the evolution of internet industry and with thanks to the black-hat SEO

practises, search engines, especially Google has changed its approach towards such attempts

of increasing a site’s ranking. So the ideas once praised and hailed in SEO artisans, can now

be declared assumptions. Let’s have a view of those famous SEO assumptions.

First and the biggest assumption is about the keywords. They believe that keywords should

be same and they should be repeated verbatim throughout the content. Small businesses

coming to internet for the purpose of marketing are buying this fallacious notion and they are

getting mugged by those SEO experts whose SEO techniques are limited by their lowly

imagination. This notion, however, is not true at all. Let us take Google for an example;

Google takes a vast mix of words so it is not required that words be written verbatim. For

example “social media marketing for small businesses” need not be repeated verbatim in the

content but in fact using a changed arrangement of words like “small businesses” and “social

media advertising” or “social media business marketing strategy” shall be as searchable as

the term used first time. Moreover reader shall not get irritated by the repetition of the same

keywords in the same arrangement.

Back links, you must have heard this word from an SEO jockey’s mouth many times. As if

‘back links’ is some magic phrase which they shall utter from their mouth and abra ka daabra;

client’s website shall be on top of the Google’s search. People simply fail to get a grasp on

the idea that had SEO been all about smothering content with keywords or making backlinks,

every Tom, Dick or Harry would have earned respect as an SEO. This is the second biggest

assumption about SEO. As a matter of fact, SEO is content. You’ve also read or heard this

that content is the king. That is true and small businesses appearing on the horizon of internet

marketing, including social media marketing, should know that they have to create or get

created quality content with decent keywords density to attract the potential buyers of their

services or products.

So if you are a small business entrepreneur and you want to launch an effective internet

marketing campaign for your products or services, you should keep in mind that nothing can

introduce your work better to the prospective clients than quality content written about it.

You need to focus on the content and if you can afford, you should hire a regular content

writer who can create quality content about your small business to catch the eyes of potential

buyers.

Yet the biggest of assumptions is thinking that mere SEO tips can bring your website on top

of the Google search. Such people are often mugged by phony SEO workers who use

software to boost the site’s ranking, but as soon as they are paid for their service, it doesn’t

take much time in the site going back to the place on the internet where it was before; so

someone was righteous to say, “Content is the King”.
