Statement of Purpose

I am a final year student of IIT Delhi, pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. I am keen
to apply for the post of Associate Consultant in Bain and Co. and would hence like to present my
candidature for the same.

My desire to work in the consulting industry has been inspired by both, the variety and the quality of
experiences it offers. Working across the broadest possible range of industries and opportunity to interact
with clients will help me gain diverse knowledge and work on finding solutions across varied challenges.
Having held a wide spectrum of positions of responsibilities in the student affairs at the institute - both in
academic and in cultural event organizations and participated in a variety of extra-curricular activities
ranging from music and dramatics to video making and entrepreneurship, I believe that my life at IIT has
given me both the confidence and the quality of experience to be successful in such an attempt.

Consulting will also enable me to make full use of, and further develop my logical and creative problem-
solving skills, providing an intellectually stimulating challenge of the sort I have always coveted. Whether
working towards securing sponsorship for one of India’s largest cultural festival in the capacity of a
Marketing Coordinator or the Under Graduate Representative for Computer Science Department in the
Co-curricular and Academic Interaction Council, essentially it requires organization and coordination
skills, meeting and assimilating problem, ability to breaking things down rationally, at times quick
thinking and conveying them in a simple way that will be easy to understand.

Listening to the Partners and Associates of Bain and Co. in the Pre-Placement Talk, left me in awe and
amazement and I hoped to stand alongside them in a PPT at IIT Delhi, someday. I felt, no other company
stressed so much on caring about client’s performance, on making an actual, physical impact. I believe
that a life that does not impact others would be wasted and at Bain, I think that I would actually make a
difference and change things, possibly more than anywhere else. As I understood, for Bain, this caring is
not just limited for its clients but also for its employees and the society in general as well. This aligns with
my own thought process of giving back to the society in whatever capacity within our limits. By
creatively applying my skills I took the initiative of making documentaries for sensitization of the people
to bring about a positive change in the society.

The success of every team I have worked on can be attributed to my ideology that work and play go hand
in hand. This attitude, and being a team player, makes people turn to me for advice in various fields, and I
love to help them to the best of my abilities. Perceiving work as fun makes me more passionate at
whatever I do enabling me to reach the pinnacles of success.

Seeing myself as a part of Bain and Co. presenting my strategy to top notch clients would be a proud
moment for me. It reminds me of the time when I shared the stage with the MTv Coke Studio Band to
perform for an audience of more than 10,000 during Rendezvous. I do hope you would give me the
chance to contribute to the continuing success of Bain and Co. through my skill set, which I look to
develop further during my time at Bain.
