Celebration of the Arts in Howard County
Help the Howard County Arts Council celebrate its 30th year! As part of its continued commitment to
foster and support the arts, the Howard County Arts Council will hold its 14th annual Celebration of the
Arts in Howard County gala. We are seeking artists to take part in the Silent Auction Art Exhibit, an
essential part of the exciting Celebration of the Arts. The Celebration is not only an exciting showcase
for local artistic talent, it is one of the Arts Council’s major funding sources for arts programs. The Silent
Auction is an important part of the overall event, which also includes performances and a reception. Last
year’s Silent Auction was a great success with 85 pieces sold! We need your help to keep the arts alive in
Howard County. Please join us in making the 2010 Celebration and its Silent Auction Art Exhibit a spec-
tacular venue for the visual arts in Howard County!

ELIGIBILITY: 2-D, 3-D and fine craft artists JURORS:


residing, working, or studying in Howard County; or  James Adkins, Artist, Director of Visual Arts, HCC
Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) members; or  Karen Besson, Owner, Art & Artisan
artists that have exhibited at Howard County Center  Joan Bevelaqua, Artist, UMUC Professor
for the Arts in the last year are invited to submit.  Patti Euler, Owner, Queen’s Ink

ENTRY: Artists may submit up to three works; one image for each 2-D work, and no more than two for each 3-D work (Due
to space limitation, only one piece will be chosen from accepted artists). FYI: Jewelry and fine craft items tend to be popular Auction
items, as well as local Howard County scenes.

-CDs must be JPEG (.jpg) files that do -Slides must be 35mm, labeled with -Printed photographs of work may
not exceed 800ppi on longest side. the artist’s name and entry number. be submitted in lieu of slides or digital
File name should be the artist’s name The top front of the slide must be images; label on back with artist’s
and entry number (e.g. SmithJ2.jpg). indicated by writing “TOP”. name, title and entry number.

AGREEMENT: Slides, cds and photographs of accepted work become the property of HCAC. HCAC reserves the right
to photograph accepted works for publicity and educational purposes and to use the slides/photographs for the same purposes.
All artwork must be original, no reproductions (including giclées or commercially printed or computer generated reproductions of
paintings, drawings, etc.). HCAC is not responsible for lost or damaged slides/photographs. Submission of an entry constitutes
understanding and agreement with all the conditions outlined in this prospectus.

PRICING/COMMISSION: Artists establish the minimum bid. Final bids for each artwork sold will be divided equally
between the artist and HCAC. Please consider donating the full purchase price to HCAC to further help us support the arts.

CALENDAR TO ENTER SUBMIT:


Sat. Jan. 15 Deadline for entries, in hand at 4pm -Completed entry form.
Early February Notifications mailed -Labeled slides, CD or photographs. NO ACTUAL WORK.
Wed. March 23 Artwork drop off at HCC -SASE for return of submission materials (optional).
Sat. March 26 Celebration of the Arts event, 6 – 10pm
Sun. March 27 Pick up for unsold artwork, 12 – 2pm TO
Times and dates subject to change.
