Lesson Plan in Practical Research 2

Content: Finding Answers through Data Collection
Content Standard: Data collection procedures and skills using varied
instruments
Performance Standard: Gather and analyze data with intellectual honesty,
using suitable techniques
Leaning Competency: Collects data using appropriate instruments
(CS_RS12-IId-g-1)

I. Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Identify the different Quantitative Data Collection Techniques
 Cite the importance of Quantitative Data Collection Techniques by
relating it to daily activities; and
 Construct a Venn Diagram of Observation & Content Analysis;
Direct Observation and Indirect Observation; Survey and
Experiment; Interview and Questionnaire.

II. Subject Matter:

 Quantitative Data Collection Techniques
Reference: CG, Practical Research 2 Textbook
Materials: power point presentation, Manila paper, marker, etc.

III. Procedure
1. Preliminary Activities/ Classroom routine
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance
d. Setting of classroom standards
e. Review

A. Activity
Students will be divided into groups.
They will play the game “Text Twist” by arranging the scrambled
letters to form the correct word.
The group with the highest point will be the winner.

B. Analysis:
1. Are you familiar with the words from the game earlier?
2. Where do we usually use those words?
3. What is the relationship of those words to research?

C. Abstraction
Discussion on the following:
Quantitative Data Collection Techniques
1. Observation
-Using your sense organs, you gather facts or information
about people, things, places, events, and so on, by watching and
listening to them; then record the results of the functioning of
your eyes and ears.
Direct Observation
Indirect Observation

2. Survey
-Is a data gathering technique that makes you obtain facts
or information about the subject or object of your research
through the data gathering instruments of INTERVIEW
and QUESTIONNAIRE.

3. Experiment
-Is a scientific method of collecting data whereby you
give the subjects a sort of treatment or condition then
evaluate the results to find out the manner by which the
treatment affected the subjects and to discover the reasons
behind the effects of such treatment on the subjects.

4. Content Analysis
-Makes you search through several oral or written
forms of communication to find answers to your research
questions. Not only for examining printed materials but also
for analyzing information coming from non-book materials
like photographs, films, video tapes, paintings, drawings, and
the like.

D. Application:
(Group Activity)
Within their group, the students will construct a Venn Diagram showing
the similarities and differences of the following:

G1-Observation and Content Analysis

G2-Direct Observation and Indirect Observation;
G3-Survey and Experiment;
G4- Interview and Questionnaire
After a 10-15 minute discussion, they will present their discussion
creatively through: TALK SHOW with MUSICAL / TV REPORTING/ NEWS
CASTING

CRITERIA FOR REPORTING

CONTENT
(clarity, organization of ideas, able to give specific examples)- 50%
DELIVERY- 50%

IV. Evaluation/Assessment:
(Individual Task)
In a ½ crosswise sheet of paper. Give a brief and concise definition of the
following:
1. Observation
2. Survey
3. Experiment
4. Content Analysis
5. Direct Observation
6. Indirect Observation
7. Interview
8. Questionnaire

V. Assignment:
Study how to solve for:
-Percent Distribution
-Mean
-Median
-Mode
