Introduction
Document Use
Use the following procedure to install the HP LaserJet Pro 400 M451nw on Mac-Lab/CardioLab
versions 6.5.6 or later; Standalone Acquisitions and Network systems, including Software Only
Review workstations.

This document includes instructions for installing to a single local system and to a network.

Procedures
Log On
NOTE: For Software Only Review workstations, log on as local administrator.

When starting up the Mac-Lab/CardioLab system, an auto-logon sequence starts and

automatically logs on to the Windows operating system. To install this update, stop the auto-logon
sequence in order to log on to Windows as mlcltechuser.

NOTE: Contact GE Healthcare Technical Support or the hospital administrator for current
password information.

1. Power on the Acquisition (or Review workstation in a networked environment) system.

The system boots up to the Mac-Lab/CardioLab Custom Shell screen.

2. Press Ctrl + Action + Del.

3. Click Log off and immediately hold down the Shift key.

NOTE: On Windows XP systems, click Log off twice.

4. Log on to Windows as local mlcltechuser.

To log on locally, select the computer name in the Domain field.

5. Log on to the Mac-Lab/CardioLab Custom shell as local mlcluser.

Install the HP Printer
Use the following procedures to install the printer.

WARNING: This system is designed to comply with the applicable IEC/EN 60601-1 series
safety standards when connected and powered as specified. Connecting
additional devices, parts or accessories that are not recommended by GE
Healthcare could lead to a reduced level of safety. Refer to the Service Manual
for equipment connection and service information. Contact GE Healthcare if
questions arise.

WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD

To reduce the risk of shock and equipment damage, use safe working
practices before servicing electrical equipment.

Prepare for Installation

NOTE: Do not turn on the printer or connect the USB cable until asked to do so as part of the
installation.

1. Remove the old printer, if necessary.

2. Log on to the Acquisition system operating system as local mlcltechuser (password:

mlcl!techuser) and the Mac-Lab/CardioLab Custom Shell as mlcluser (refer to Log On on
page 2).

NOTE: Verify the Mac-Lab/CardioLab application is not running.

Disable Smart Install Feature on the Printer

1. Connect the power cable to the printer and turn on the printer.

2. On the printer control panel, use the left and right arrow keys to navigate the menu
selections.

3. Navigate to Setup Menu > Service and press OK.

4. In the Service menu, select HP Smart Install and press OK.

5. In the HP Smart Install menu, select Off and press OK.

An asterisk (*) briefly displays on the right side of the screen to indicate the selection was
made.

6. Press the X button to return to the main menu.

Use the Correct Installation Procedures
The printer is installed differently depending on how it is connected to the computer and the
version of the Mac-Lab/CardioLab software.

1. To perform a USB installation refer to:

 Mac-Lab/CardioLab software versions 6.9.6 or higher: USB Installation on Mac-Lab/

CardioLab Version 6.9.6 and Higher on page 4
 Mac-Lab/CardioLab software versions 6.9.5 or lower: USB Installation on Mac-Lab/
CardioLab Versions 6.9.5 and Lower on page 5
2. To perform a network installation refer to Network Installation on page 7.

USB Installation on Mac-Lab/CardioLab Version 6.9.6 and Higher

1. Navigate to C:\Windows\Drivers\Printer\HP M451NW.

2. Right-click the .exe file and select Run as administrator.

Wait for the installer.

3. Click Next at the Software Selection window.

4. Review and accept the agreements and click Next.

The installer displays a progress bar. The Next button displays when the installer finishes.

5. Click Next.

6. Choose Directly connect to the computer using a USB cable and click Next.

7. Connect the USB cable and click Next.

Wait for the installation to complete.

8. Click Next.

9. Make sure the Set as default printer and Print a test page checkboxes are selected.

 10. Click Finish and confirm that a test page prints.

11. Go to Update the Firmware on page 1-12.

USB Installation on Mac-Lab/CardioLab Versions 6.9.5 and Lower

Driver Installation
1. Insert the HP LaserJet Pro M401/ M451 Driver CD (PN 2069157-001) into the DVD drive.

2. Connect the printer to the system using the USB cable.

3. When the Found New Hardware Wizard window opens, select Install from a list or
specific location (Advanced) and click Next.

4. Click the Include this location in the search checkbox and click Browse.

5. Navigate to the CD drive, select the HP LaserJet M451 Color folder and click OK.

6. Click Next.

 A window displays to indicate the HP Printer (LEDM) is being installed.

7. Click Finish after the installation completes.

Another Found New Hardware Wizard window displays.

8. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next.

9. Click the Include this location in the search checkbox and click Browse.

10. Navigate to the CD drive, select the HP LaserJet M451 Color folder and click OK.

11. Click Next.

A window displays to indicate the Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet 400 M451 PCL6 is being
installed.

12. Click Finish after the installation completes.

Print Test Page and Disable Printer Status Notifications

1. Click Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes.

2. In the Printer and Faxes window, right-click HP LaserJet 400 M451nw PCL6 and select
Properties.

3. Click the Print Test Page button.

4. Confirm that a test page was printed.

5. Click OK.

6. Close the HP LaserJet 400 M451nw PCL6 Properties window.

7. Close the Printer and Faxes window.

8. Go to Disable Printer Status Notifications on page 12.

Network Installation

Configure IPv4 TCP/IP Parameters on the Printer

1. Connect the printer to the network port using an Ethernet cable.

2. On the printer control panel, use the left and right arrow keys to navigate the menu selections.

3. Select Setup Menu > Network Setup and press OK.

4. Select the TCP/IP Config option and press OK.

5. The IPv4 TCP/IP parameters can be configured manually or obtained automatically.

6. For manual configuration, do the following:

a. Select Manual and press OK.

b. Use the alphanumeric buttons to type the IP address and then press OK.

7. For automatic configuration, select Automatic and press OK.

8. Press the X button to return to the main menu.

Driver Installation for Mac-Lab/CardioLab Version 6.9.6 and

Higher
Do this procedure only for Mac-Lab/CardioLab version 6.9.6 or higher.

1. Navigate to C:\Windows\Drivers\Printer\HP M451NW.

2. Right-click the .exe file and select Run as administrator.

Wait for the installer.

3. Click Next at the Software Selection window.

4. Review and accept the agreements and click Next.

The installer displays a progress bar. The Next button displays when the installer finishes.

5. Click Next.

6. Choose Connect through a wired network.

Procedures

7. Type the printer’s IP address into the Search using an IP Address field.

NOTE: The IP address is displayed on the printer’s LCD screen.

8. Confirm the printer is found and click Next.

Wait for the installation to complete.

9. Click Next.

10. Make sure the Set as default printer and Print a test page checkboxes are selected.

11. Click Finish and confirm that a test page prints.

12. Go to Update the Firmware on page 1-12.

Driver Installation for Mac-Lab/CardioLab Version 6.9.5 or Lower

1. Insert the HP LaserJet Pro M401/ M451 Driver CD (PN 2069157-001) into the DVD drive.

2. Click Start > Settings > Printer and Faxes.

3. Click Add a Printer.

4. Click Next.

5. Select Local printer attached to this computer and uncheck the Automatically detect and
install my Plug and Play printer checkbox.

6. Click Next.

7. In the Select a Printer Port window, click the Create a new port radio button and select
Standard TCP/IP Port from the drop-down list.

8. Click Next.

9. Click Next at the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard screen.

10. Enter the IP address displayed on the printer's LCD screen into Printer Name or IP Address
field.

Procedures

The Port Name field auto-fills.

11. Click Next twice.

12. Click Finish.

13. In the Install Printer Software window, click Have Disk.

14. In the Install from the Disk window, click Browse and navigate to the HP LaserJet M451
Color folder on the CD.

15. Click OK twice to select the location.

16. In the Install Printer Software window, select the HP Universal Printing PCL6 driver.

17. Click Next twice.

18. In the Printer Sharing window, select Do not share this printer and click Next.

19. On the Print Test Page window, select Yes and click Next.

20. Click Finish.

21. Go to Disable Printer Status Notifications on page 12 to finish the installation procedure.

Disable Printer Status Notifications

1. Click Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes.

2. Right-click HP LaserJet 400 M451 PCL6 and click Properties.

3. In the HP LaserJet 400 M451 PCL6 Properties window, click the Device Settings tab.

4. Under Installable Options, click the Enabled link next to the Printer Status Notification
option.

5. From the drop-down, select Disabled.

6. Click OK.

7. Go to Update the Firmware on page 1-12.

Update the Firmware

Printer firmware released before September 23, 2013 has a known security vulnerability and
must be updated with the latest firmware.

1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support and select Drivers & Software.

2. Type M451nw and click Go.

3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and install the latest firmware.
