INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this design is to check the adequacy of 40x10 deck grating (conforming to DOTL Standard
drawings) against a live loading of 5kN/m2. and a trolley load according to Doc STDS-ST-SPE-1-0001-01-
00-00 Section 8.1.The design also checks the adequacy of 30x5 deck grating for stairway and intermediate
landings against a live loading of 5 kN/m^2.
2. DESIGN ASSUMPTIONS
2.1 The deck gratings are checked using MATHCAD spreadsheet for the local stress caused by in-service
loading.
2.2 Design checks are performed according to AISC - Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, Allowable

6. CONCLUSION
The 40x10 steel grating was checked for loading and deflection under a live loading of 5kN/m2 and
checked for the trolley load as required by Doc. No. STDS-ST-SPE-1-0001-01-00-00 Section 8.1 and
was found to be adequate.
