REVISION HISTORY:
Objective :-
Ensuring safety by limiting the Grid resistance of the earthing system to Less than 1 Ohm as specified in
the scope of work at all the locations:-
Soil resistivity measurements were carried at the specified locations of 14No’s and the analysis had
been done to design the number of earth pits at each location
Ensuring the selection and sizing of conductor considering the environmental factor accounting the
impact of corrosion
IS Indian Standard
Earthing Grid System of interconnected, bare horizontal conductors together with or without
vertical electrodes of bare mild steel conductors buried in the
earth, providing a common earth for electrical devices or metallic
structures, usually in one specific location. A grid is a composite
electrode.

8. CONCLUSION
1. The total no of earth pits considered for achieving the desired resistance of less than
1ohm at each of the specified 14 locations are 42 No’s
2. The total length of grid conductor considered for interconnection of earth pits is 300m
each
4 Earth clamps No’s 42
3.
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
1. Maximum allowable corrosion considered was 30 percent in the conductor sizing as per IS 3043.
2. The dimensions of the electrode considered were 17.2mm dia Cu bonded carbon steel rod
3. The resistivity of the earthing enhancing compound for the backfill of 100mm dia is 0.12ohmm and a
quantity of 25kg had been considered for each earth pit.
4. The size of the Grid conductor is 50 x 10 mm GI Strip for the fault current of 25kA for 1s and
65x10mm GI for a fault current of 40kA for 1s.
5. Quantity of the grid conductor is arrived based on the number of earth pits to be interconnected. Any
change in the requirement will affect the quantity considered by us.
6. Interconnection of earth pit to earth pit by using Nut & bolt arrangement, (suitable hardware shall be
considered Eg, SS/GI).
7. Depth of laying the grid conductor for interconnecting the pits shall be at 600mm
8. We have not considered any earthing apart from the earthing scope considered above.
