organisation and administration are not your prime concern. Inspired and
unrestrained expression is what you aspire to. The day-to-day worries of
living as an artist should not stand in your way. Nonetheless, paying due
attention to practical and legal aspects will create the stability and security
you need to continue to develop your artistic talent.
For advice on practical and legal issues, you can rely on Kunstenloket, a
neutral contact point for anyone involved in artistic activity. We provide clear
and personalised advice to professional artists, artists in training and
amateurs. Sponsors, producers and executive directors can call on us for
expert information on the organisation of artistic enterprises.

A clear voice
Since July 2003, artists have enjoyed a separate social status under Belgian
law. Further information on this social status is available from
www.kunstenloket.be. This website also provides answers to often-asked
questions about taxation, copyright and the organisation of artistic
productions. Internationalisation is a fact of life, including in the arts.
Therefore, extra attention is paid to foreign artists who are working in our
country. Furthermore, we can provide you with model contracts and
examples of administrative documents.
You can also participate in monthly information sessions about practical
and legal aspects of artistic work and thematic afternoon workshops on
specific aspects of artistic activity. For an overview of planned sessions and

Not only is every discipline unique, but so too is every individual’s specific
situation. Therefore, we provide tailor-made practical and legal advice. Our
consultants will answer all your questions via our telephone helpline.

For more complex issues, we organise regular consultation sessions in Antwerp,

Brussels and Ghent, for which you should make an appointment by telephone. Our
consultants will then reserve a whole hour to answer your personal queries. This
service is free of charge.

Kunstenloket does more

Taxation, legislation and managerial practice are subject to constant change,
including in the arts sector. As a neutral platform, Kunstenloket identifies
bottlenecks, lacunas and interpretational problems. Through communication
to the authorities concerned, Kunstenloket ensures continuous policy
follow-up and adjustment.
To obtain a clear picture of the arts industry, Kunstenloket, in consultation
and collaboration with the sector, monitors evolutions within the artistic
labour market. On the basis of needs analysis, we subsequently formulate
policy recommendations. The goal is to develop a policy that takes due
account of the requirements of artistic practice. In addition, Kunstenloket
studies organisational models of social consultation and possibilities for
extending this consultation within the arts sector.
Besides providing information sessions and training, Kunstenloket also
engages in development projects, either autonomously or in cooperation
with other organisations. Invariably, special attention is paid to the practical
side of artistic professional activity.
