This study was conducted to assess the negative effects of the social media in academic

performances of Senior High School students of Holy Nazarene Christian School.

Particularly, to what it really means of the social media platforms in academic
performances of the Senior High students and how does if affect to them negatively.
Today, it is crucial to determine the impact of social media on the academic performances
of students. Technology is booming year by year, and the younger generations are the one
who caught by the raid change. Social media is the platform that gives the individual the
opportunity to interact and access sources of information that they need. According to
Nick Zagorski ( 2017 ) a recent studies have shown that social media use is linked to
feelings of social isolation, depression, insecurity, and poor self esteem that can affect to
the academic performances of the senior high students this studies shows how it can lead
to the problems. (Moran, Seaman, and Tinti-Kane, 2011) Mike Moran, Jeff Seaman and
Hester Tinti- Kane for a long period of time believed that the term social media does not
have a clear definition, however when one platform emerged, that gave people an
opportunity to be content creators, controllers and transparent users, to a great exten.
Once this content is shared it becomes a conversation, because all who have social media
accounts can interact with all post.
INTRODUCTION:
Social media has become one of the most important communication means in recent
towards the exchange of knowledge, data and the unknown information. Social media is a
form of electronic communication through which people interact with each other. Social
media attracted millions of internet users, who have integrated the social networking sites
in their daily lives routines, as a powerful medium enhancing the communication between
the society on the whole. Social media has brought large impact in both positive and
negative. All information either good or bad can easily spread through social media. EL
Khatib, Khan (2017) Social media has totally changed students way of learning and their
studying style and the overall setup.Students started to using these sites as sources to
obtain information and facilitate themselves towards their completing assessment,
projects and related academic work. Social media sites can have positive and negative

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY:
The purpose or objective of this quantitative descriptive research study is to assess
what are the possible negative effects of using social media in the academic performances
of the Senior High School students. This will provide the effects on the students by being
addictive in social media platforms while they are studying. It focuses on how the
students use different social media platforms in their academic performances.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:
The result of this study will be great benefit to the following:

The researchers thought that if this research study would be successful, The society
specially youths in this generation would be knowledgable and preventive in negative
effects of using social media. This would be able to help the students to be aware of the
possible negative effects of using social media in their academic performances and for
them to be able to prevent negative results of this problem. For their parents to be
responsible enough in giving their children the freedom in using different social media
platform in different purposes and for them to be aware of the things that may happen if
they are not knowledgable in these factors. This would inform the teachers how
negatively affect the academic performances of their students in using social media more
often than other sources of information.
