BASIC PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

Grade 7 (CLASSICAL PORTRAIT PAINTING)

 PHOTOGRAPHY- is a type of art, application and practice of creating durable images by
recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of an image
sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is
employed in many fields of science, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography), and business, as well
as its more direct uses for art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and mass
communication.(Wikipedia)

 The first permanent photograph was captured in 1826 (some sources say 1827) by
Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in France, by Johann Zahn designed the first camera in 1685.

 WHAT IS PORTRAIT/ PORTRAITURE ?

Portraiture, is a photo of a PERSON or GROUP OF PEOPLE that captures the
personality of the subject using light, backdrops and poses.

A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in

which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the
likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait
is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often
shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully
engage the subject with the viewer.
