Why participate in an Escalation League?

An Escalation League is a great way for new players to learn how to play Warhammer
and become experienced with the game and tactics as their armies grow. It is also a
great way for experienced players to start a new force and have a goal for growth. We
will start at 500 points and add a set point level each month until we reach 2500 points.
Everybody will play a set number of games at each level. In addition to having a focus
for building your army, you will also have manageable blocks of units to paint and a
dedicated group of people to play against.

Rules:
The rules are as follows, for any questions, posting army lists, finding games, and
talking about the league in general please come to our forum @

You must have the result for your games turned in by midnight on the day of your
deadline to receive credit for each month.

Building your Army:

There are a few rules for growing your force during the league. During the 1 st month all
participants need to follow the composition rules according to the Adepticon Warband
rules, from 750 points forward the normal WFB composition rules apply.

The Escalation League is supposed to represent the growth of your force, and each
model you include on your list becomes a permanent part of your army. Your 750 point
list includes all items that were present in your 500 point list, your 1000 point list
includes all items that were present in your 750 point list, etc. Each month you will play
with a bigger force, instead of a completely different force. Your units can grow, change,
get new items, etc; but once they are on your list they are there to stay. Individual
models can be promoted, switch units, and so forth. A few examples of this rule in
effect:
 A unit of 10 Spearmen at the 500 point list can grow to 15 spearmen at the 750
point list, but they cannot be dropped to make room for something else.

 A unit of 10 Spearmen without command at 500 points can become a unit of 10

Spearmen with champion, musician, and standard bearer at 750 points. Existing
models can be promoted to these roles instead of making a unit of 13 Spearmen
(the original 10 + the new command).

 A unit of 30 Spearmen at 1000 points can be changed to two units of 20

Spearmen at 1500 points. The reinforcements allowed the existing unit to
become more flexible and the original 30 models did not disappear but are
included in the two new units.

 Magic items purchased by units or characters must be included in all future lists,
but can be moved between units and characters.

 Heroes can become Lords. A level 1/2 Wizard can become a level 3/4 Wizard. A
Noble can become a Prince, a Thane can become a Lord, etc. Any magical items
purchased can be given to other characters, unit champions that can take
magical items, or can stay with the character.

 Characters can be purchased with no or minimal magic items at low point games,
and be given upgrades at higher point games. (1500 points – naked lord; 2000
points – lord with gear; 2500 points lord with gear and mount)

You need to submit your official list for each point level before playing your 1 st game.
We will post the lists on the forum for two purposes: It will give us an idea how each
army is progressing, and it will help keep us accountable to each other and prevents
anyone from changing lists between different opponents. You do not need to submit the
list by a specific date, but any games played before the list was send will not count
towards your score for that month.

The gradual build up will give you a month at a time to point 250 to 500 points. I would
not expect everybody to paint at a competition level, but we will have a 3 color minimum
on each model for scoring purposes. After 6 months everyone should have 2,500 points
of painted goodness.

Playing Games:

We will play two games at each point level, with a different opponent required for each
game. You can always play more games if you wish, but only your first two games will
be used for scoring purposes. Unless everyone agrees to constant surveillance we will
just need to be on the honor system. There will be bonus points for each individual
league opponent you play to encourage diversity.

There are no set days for playing, and we encourage using the forum to post your
availability for games. This will allow participants at local stores that have a set night for
open gaming to get together and play, or arrange matches at a store or at home.

I will also try to organize a monthly tournament at each point level. Participation in the
tournaments is not mandatory for participation in the league, and the tournaments will
be open to people outside the league. But if you participate in the tournaments the
games can be counted as league matches if you want.

You can use any of the scenarios in the rulebook for your games, but we recommend
playing on a 4x4 area for the 500 point games. There are Warband specific scenarios
available, and you can find them on the forum.

Scoring:

All games are scored based on the result of matches as well as painting. An example of
a score sheet is included at the end of these rules. Use the rules for Victory Points to
determine the outcome for the battle, then have your opponent fill out the painting
section of the score sheet.

Battle results are scored as follows: Crushing Victory: 17 points, Victory 15 points, Draw
10 points, Defeat 5 points, Crushing Defeat 3 points.

Each match has 8 possible points for your painting score.

If you are playing more than two games each month, please only score and submit your
first two games.

You will also receive 2 bonus points for each different opponent you play. When the
escalation league ends we will have played 12 scored games, so you can receive a total
of 24 bonus points if every match was against a different opponent.

That’s all:

I hope everyone enjoys the league and I look forward to meeting everybody on the
table. If you have any questions either post them on the forum or email me at:
