Coolant Heating Products
Coolant heaters are the most basic cold weather
operating aid.
The purpose of these heaters is to keep coolant
and cylinders warm so that cranking power is used
to heat the fuel, not the cold metals surrounding it.
Because the combustion temperatures needed to
ignite number 2 diesel are 550˚ to 600˚, warmed
coolant is vital to the starting process, even in
temperatures as warm as 50˚F (10˚C). Coolant
should be maintained at a minimum of 120˚ for a
diesel engine to start readily. Three types of
coolant heaters are offered by Fleetguard.
Immersion block heaters, which are powered by
either 120 or 240V electricity, heat the coolant by
the convection process. Select the proper
application by engine manufacturer and model.

Remote mounted tank coolant heaters add forced

circulation to the block warming process. They are
particularly applicable to stationary type engines
or when no immersion application is available.
Optional thermostats are offered.

Battery Warmer Blanket

Diesel Fuel Warmers
The clouding and waxing of diesel fuel is a
growing problem facing today’s diesel engine
operators. Poor refining and lower quality base
fuel create a situation where the ready flow of
diesel fuel stops at higher and higher temperatures.
In addition, number one diesel is no longer readily
available in all climates. Diesel fuel additives are
helpful but not completely effective and are
expensive.

Circulating Fuel Warmer

Especially effective when immersion or tank
heaters are utilized to warm coolant, the
circulating fuel warmer flows coolant through a
center core and sends coolant around the fuel. This
unit is stainless steel (can’t rust) and has no
internal assembly welds which could create weak
spots that result in leaks. The unit is lightweight,
compact, and can be installed vertically or
horizontally on the upstream side of the fuel

Thermo Blend
Return fuel is used in the Thermo Blend to
maintain temperature above fuel cloud point. This
Cummins tested and approved unit depends only
upon the fuel system itself for operation. A 10-15
minute warm-up will prevent fuel waxing on the
road for Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and Mack
engines.

The Thermo Blend recirculates deaearated warm

fuel directly to the filter and injection system
rather than allow it to return to the tank. A built-in
thermostat automatically by-passes fuel from the
Thermo Blend at 110˚F.

For about the same cost as a coolant type fuel

heater, the Thermo Blend avoids coolant loss.

Heavy Duty Starting Fluid Systems
Fleetguard offers electrically actuated and manually
operated starting fluid systems. All kits provide a
measured shot of starting fluid into the diesel engine
manifold on demand to aid ignition at low ambient
temperatures. Kits 3310588 and 3313273 include a
special plate for easier installations.
The use of a thermostat is recommended with
electrically actuated kits to prevent injection of starting
fluid when the engine is over 100˚F. Order an atomizer
and fluid cylinder to complete your installation on all
kits except 3313273 and 3830397. These kits include
the most popular atomizers, color coded for easy
installation. (12 volt systems draw 8.5 amps. 24
volt systems draw 17 amps.) (For engines equipped
with “Glow Plugs” DO NOT USE ether start kit.
