CE statement
The CE conformity declaration for the product is fulfilled when the system is built and cabled in line with

instructions, cable lists or the like. Where necessary project-specific documentation should be taken into
consideration. Deviations from the specifications or independent modifications to the layout, such as
use of cable types with lower screening values for example, can lead to violation of the CE protection

1 Preface
This chapter contains an overview, prerequisites and important notices regarding the
commissioning of SURPASS hiT 7080.

Preface Commissioning Manual (COMN)
Representation Meaning
“Inverted commas” Window or wizard titles are represented in “inverted commas”.
Example: Open the “Help and Support Center” window. The
“New Connection” wizard is displayed.
Bold Any field or text in the GUI is represented in bold type.
Example: Click Shutdown and then click OK to turn off the
computer.
Italic Variables and file extensions are represented in italic.
Example: Enter 192.168.0.1 in the IP address field. Click OK to
produce a .pdf rendition.
Courier Commands, screen output, file names and paths are
represented in courier.
Example: # ping -t 192.168.0.1
<Angle brackets> Used for keyboard actions or place holders for concrete names
or values are represented in <angle brackets>. If used for a
filename the courier font must be used also.
Example: The naming convention for the log files is
<NEname>.txt, where <NEName> is the name of the NE
sending the messages. Press <CTRL>+<ALT><DEL> to open
the task manager.
> Used for menu sequences.
Example: Click File > Print... to print the document.

The following sub-chapters cover the hardware and software required for the SURPASS
hiT 7080 commissioning.

2 Commissioning strategies
The SURPASS hiT 7080 Network Element (NE) commissioning task can be performed
both on site and remotely via LCT.
The SURPASS hiT 7080 system is available in the following delivery formats:
• Rack and shelf pre-configuration
• Shelf pre-configuration
• Bulk
The three delivery formats differ regarding the pre-installed hardware.
For more information regarding the delivery formats, please refer to the SURPASS hiT
7080 Installation and Test Manual (ITMN).
It is possible to add one main shelf to one NE, and the following cards can be added to
the main shelf:
• Controller cards
– System Controller (SC) card
– System Interface with Engineering Order Wire (SI-E) card
• Cross Connection (CC) cards
– High Order Cross Connection (HOCC) card
• Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) cards
– 2 x STM-64
– 8 x STM-16
– 8 x STM-4/1
• Ethernet cards
– 8 x GE/T
– 6 x GE + 4 x FEGE/A
• Amplifier cards
– Pre-Optical Amplifier (POA) (20 dB)
– Booster Optical Amplifier (BOA) (13 dBm)
– BOA (15 dBm)
– BOA (18 dBm)
• Cooling cards
– Fan unit
According to the purchased delivery format, execute the corresponding commissioning
strategy.
g In case of the emergency occuring on the NE during the commissioning, please
reboot, or even shut down the NE.
For how to reboot and shut down NE, please refer to the SURPASS hiT 7080 Oper-
ating Manual (OMN).

In the rack and shelf pre-configuration delivery format, the entire assembly work is
assured by Nokia Siemens Networks in advance. In this case, all cards are plugged in
the shelves according to the customer List Of Material (LOM), and installed in the correct
racks.
To commission the NE, complete the following procedures:

Commissioning strategy
In the shelf pre-configuration delivery format, all shelves are equipped with cards
according to the customer LOM. In this case the shelves have to be installed into the
racks and the essential cables have to be connected first.
To commission the NE, complete the following procedures:

Prerequisites
In order to start the SURPASS hiT 7080 NE commissioning, the following prerequisites
must be fulfilled:

• Hardware installation and cabling are completed according to the SURPASS hiT
7080 Installation and Test Manual (ITMN).
• The NE is powered on.
Commissioning strategy
The bulk delivery format does not support any pre-configured installation and cabling for
the NE.
To commission the NE, complete the following procedures:

3 Commissioning procedures
This chapter contains all the required procedures to complete a SURPASS hiT 7080 NE
commissioning task.

User name: Enter the login name for the Hyper Terminal user account.
The default user name is root.
Password: Enter the password for the Hyper Terminal user account.
The default password is <Enter>.
3 Enter the user setting menu
Press <u> to enter user setting menu.
4 Select the user
Press <g> and enter the selected user name.
Press <Enter>.
The detailed information of the selected user is displayed.
5 Enter the user edit menu
Press <e> to enter user edit menu.
6 Set the user password
Press <1> to set the user password.
g Nokia Siemens Networks recommends that the user password should be set
and remembered.
7 Enter the Internet Protocol (IP) address setting menu
Press <x> return to the main menu.
Press <i> to enter IP address setting menu.
8 Set the IP address
Press <1> to <4> to set the node IP address, the management port IP address, the
management port subnetwork mask and the default gateway for the management
port respectively.
g 1. For every SURPASS hiT 7080 NE, a node IP address must be set. Each
node IP address must be unique within the network. Nokia Siemens
Networks recommends that all nodes within the same ring share the same
subnetwork for administration and further expansion easily.
2. The SURPASS hiT 7080 management port IP address must be unique in the
same subnetwork.
9 Enter the Telnet login setting menu
Press <x> to return to the main menu.
Press <l> to enter Telnet login setting menu.
10 Control the Telnet login
Press <e> to enable or <d> to disable the Telnet login function.
11 Quit the initial configuration menu
Quit the initial configuration menu and disconnect the Hyper Terminal.
The system configuration is initialized.

1 On the Windows taskbar select Start > Settings > Control Panel menu item.
The “Control Panel” window is opened.
2 Double-click Internet Options to open the “Internet Properties” window.
3 Click the tab Advanced and select the check box Allow active content to run in
files on My Computer in the Security area.
4 Click OK.
The online help system is configured.
3.3.2 Starting up
To start up the LCT, complete the following steps:
1 On the Windows taskbar select the Start > Programs > TNMS CT menu item to
start the TNMS CT. The LCT is embedded in the TNMS CT.
The main “TNMS CT” window and the “Login” window are opened.
2 Login to TNMS CT and click the DCN Mgm icon on the main tool bar.
The “DCN Management” window is opened.
3 In the list of DCN Objects, right-click on the TNMS CT Server tree and select the
Add menu item.
The “Add DCN Channel” window is opened.
4 Select SNMP from the list and click OK.
The “SNMP - Properties” window is opened.
5 In the General tab, enter an ID Name for a new DCN channel (e.g., SNMP) and click
OK.
The new SNMP icon representing the DCN channel is displayed under the TNMS
CT Server icon.

Old Password: Enter the old password for the NE user account. The default
old password is nsiemens.
New Password: Enter the new password for the NE user account.
Confirm Password: Enter the new password again for confirmation.
The password of the existing NE user account is modified.
User Name: Enter the new name for the NE user account.
Password: Enter the new password for the NE user account.
Confirm Password: Enter the new password again for confirmation.
Group: Select the required group, which the account belongs to,
from the drop-down list.
4 Accept the default configuration of the check box, Account is disabled, to enable
the account, or select this check box to disable the account as requirement.
5 Click OK to complete the creation.
A new NE user account is created.

Destination: Enter the IP address of the TNMS connected with the NE.
Mask: Enter the subnetwork mask of TNMS connected with the
NE.
Interface Index: Enter the unique number that identifies the interface
connected to TNMS.
Next Hop: Enter the gateway IP address of TMN.
4 Click OK to confirm the configuration.
The DCN is configured.

Warm reboot
To warm reboot cards, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis view window, right-click the card to be rebooted and select the Warm
Reboot Card menu item from the context menu.
2 In the confirmation window, click Yes to reboot the card.
3 Click OK to confirm the reboot.
The card warm reboots.
Cold reboot
To cold reboot cards, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis view window, right-click the card to be rebooted and select the Cold
Reboot Card menu item from the context menu.
2 In the confirmation window, click Yes to reboot the card.
3 Click OK to confirm the reboot.
The card cold reboots.

1 In the chassis main menu, select Configuration > Alarm Out Configuration menu
item.
The “Alarm Out Configuration” window is opened.
2 Select the following four options as required.
• Alarm Out Suppress only temporarily suppress the alarm output once
• Alarm Out Cutoff permanently cut off the alarm output
• Enable CR/MJ Alarm out enable the critical and major alarm to be displayed
• Enable Minor Alarm out enable the minor alarm to be displayed
3 Click OK to set the alarm output configuration.
4 In the confirmation window, click OK to confirm the settings.
The alarm output is configured.
