The Parochial Church Council has begun the process of applying for a Faculty
(Church of England’s equivalent to planning permission) for the removal of the hedge
surrounding the church. This follows a prolonged period of drug abuse, defecation
and other acts of antisocial behaviour during which the hedge has been used as a
screen for illicit behaviour inside the church grounds. The lives of children and young
people have been put at very serious risk and the PCC will not tolerate this position
any longer. Two of the most serious incidents this year included a near-death drugs
overdose with police and ambulance crews in attendance in the church grounds, and
more recently, drug users left 5 unprotected blood-filled syringes and other drugs
paraphernalia at the east end of the church grounds. Throughout the summer
months pedestrians have used the hedge as a cover for urinating and defecating.
Statutory notices will be pinned on the noticeboards in the church and church porch.
Job Opportunity The PCC has resolved to appoint a paid administrator to
provide assistance on Mondays in addition to the 3 days served by Gill. Is this a post

addition to other tasks, can help with keeping our website up to date, and using our
e-bulletin, etc, so good modern communication skills are essential. Please speak to

On Sunday 23 January Martin Cavender the Director of ReSource -
(www.resource-arm.net) - a ministry with an Anglican distinctive, seeking to serve
the church by teaching, training, and encouraging people to renew their lives and
their church - will be preaching at 10am. He will then meet with the PCC over lunch.
Martin will also be preaching at our services at Pentecost and leading our parish
weekend away in July. This is an exciting opportunity to hear Martin speak and to
pray for him and his work among us.
Admission to Communion If you have a child over the age of 7 who is asking to
be admitted to Communion before Confirmation, please talk to Caroline Clarke or
Meg Post. We are hoping to run a course to prepare for this during this term.

Painting and Decorating David Taylor used to work at Holy Trinity as cleaner
and caretaker and has previously - and successfully - undertaken work for many
members of our congregation. If you have any work you’d like him to do, please

VOUNTEERS NEEDED!
Trinity Toddlers and Fledglings are two of our most successful groups caring for
parents and their children and young mothers. Can you volunteer to help with
either group? Trinity Toddlers needs more people to help serve refreshments to
children and their carers. They meet on Wednesdays in term time from 10-11.30am.
And Fledglings needs help from volunteers to look after young children when their
parents are in a discussion group for an hour. Fledglings meets on the first Tuesday
of the month. If you are able to help please speak to Joanna Burdett or Kate Duroux.
Fledglings returns this Tuesday morning and then on the first Tuesday of every
month. Coffee from 10am and discussion from 10.30am. Everyone is welcome.
And Trinity Toddlers starts again the following day - Wednesday at 10-11.30. There’s
always a warm welcome to newcomers.
Youth and Children’s Work We URGENTLY need people to help with our
Sunday group for secondary school children, Eagles. At the moment we have 3
people who are willing to lead the group but in the absence of helpers we can't run
the group due to regulations about child protection requiring 2 adults in all such
situations. These children are the future life of the church and we have a collective
responsibility towards them. Please think and pray about coming forward to help if
you feel you can. And let me know! We also need to recruit another helper for
THE MIX which meets on Fridays between 7.00-9.00pm. - preferably someone in
the 18-30 age group and available from February 2011. More information from Julia.
CRECHE ROTA There is also a desperate need for more people to help with the
Crèche - at the moment there are only four people on the rota. Please contact Ann

you can offer help, or would like more information.
Parish Safeguarding Officers (formerly Child Protection Officers). Thanks to
Caroline Pook for volunteering to be one of our Parish Safeguarding Officers—we
need another person to work with her on this important work of keeping children
and vulnerable adults safe in our church and its activities. The job involves ensuring
that volunteers working with children, young people and vulnerable adults are
properly recruited (including carrying out CRB checks) and trained. More time is
needed initially to ensure current volunteers are suitably checked. Applicants do not
need any prior knowledge as training is provided. To apply for this role, please see

Refreshments after the 10am Service: Would anyone like to help with doing
the coffee after 10am service on Sundays? It is done by 2 people at a time and about
every 2 months. If you would like to help please ring Jill Threlfall as soon as
possible.
