Tittle: Child artist’s position in the entertainment industry


Scope and objectives.
The main scope of the paper is to discuss about children working in entertainment industry. The
regulation and monitoring of children’s working conditions in the entertainment industry and the
role of performers’ organizations and discuss the several key elements for protecting child
performers, including pay, licensing and permit systems, hours worked per day/year, educational
provisions and requirements, moral oversight, health and safety, and also discusses what happens
to child performers when they grow up.

Background of the study


In recent times the entertainment industry has seen a sudden boom, with a growth rate of 15.8
per cent in 2011, Indian television industry stood second when compared with BRIC and other
major developed economies. In 2016, television market was expected to generate US$ 9.62
billion revenue, making it among the biggest industries in India.
In 2016, the Government of India amended the act governing child labour and recognised the
rights of “child artists.” The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016
defines an ‘‘artist’’ as a child who performs or practices any work as a hobby or profession
directly involving him as an actor, singer, sports person or in such other activity relating to the
entertainment or sports activities. It also lays down rules and regulations that govern the
employment of these children. Along with the NCPRC, the act attempts to safeguard the growth
and development of a child.

Review of a literature
The literature review is based on Child artist’s position in the entertainment industry.The review
is written in a narrative manner and it is intended to basic information and review principles
related to the child artist. This review will critically evaluate the information in the journal and
will be discussed with each other.

Research methodology
Legal research can be classified in various ways. It can be divided on the basis of nature of data
collection, interpretation of already available data, tools of data collection, purpose and other
criteria
The purposive research is divided as:
1. Empirical i.e. Non-doctrinal and
2. Non-empirical i.e. Doctrinal
For the purpose of this research problem researcher has selected doctrinal research methodology
as many things can only be studied in empirical conditions. Being a social issue the research has
got the status of socio legal research. Hence, the researcher thinks doctrinal method will hold the
research in proper manner. Research has studied the relevant literature available in books, case
laws and Internet. The researcher has used the following sources for the research.
1. All India Reporters,
2. Law Journals,
3. Articles, Essays, and Case Laws on the research problems and,
4. News Papers.
