● List all the interest areas you see in this classroom (ie. Library, art, science etc.)
● Do the center areas have the following: Is there enough materials, are the materials
in good condition, are they age appropriate.
Yes, the center does have enough materials that are in good condition and that are age
appropriate for the children. While everything is in place and organized in the morning, the
children can reach for the materials without a struggle.
● Is there DEAD SPACE? (ei. Areas where children can hide, areas where they are not
visible to teachers)
No, every side has something visible for the children to use. The only place where they can hide
behind the sofa chair, but the teacher told me that they’re always watching the stairs next to
the chair, so they’re not really hiding from them.
● Does the classroom flow?
Yes, the classroom does flow with the centers that the teachers provided for the students. They
can decide which center to go to, if upstairs to read books, or downstairs to be in the sensory
table.
● Rating: Using a scale from 1-5, how would you rate this environment? Defend your
answer.
5 rating because they have different centers that can empower the student’s development.
They require a lot of hands-on activities and those types of experiences will develop social skills,
and they can be open to new ideas. While the children were outside playing while they were
being dropped off, one of the teachers stayed inside to decorate the setting for the books they
were going to read, she was happy to amaze the children with the story.
● Strengths: List 3 strengths you saw in this environment
1. The children have access to all the materials
2. Family photos were up on a wall to show that they are there with them.
3. Teachers care for the children by how the teacher showed enthusiasm to decorate the
room.
● Improvement: List 3 improvements you could see benefiting the children’s learning.
1. The children can help the teacher decorate the classroom, or teachers can have
different ways of teaching Fall season.
2. Teachers can make a play about the season we are in.
3. Teachers can ask open-ended questions to children while they’re at the different
centers, to construct the special bond that they have.
● List 3 DAP principles that will support your ideas for strengths or improvements.
● Children learn in a variety of ways.
● Play is an important vehicle for developing self-regulation and promoting language,
cognition, and social competence.
