CHAPTER 7 – FUNCTIONAL CHECKS

SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION

Basic DLX operation is described in this chapter. For details on DLX functions, refer to DLX Operator
Manual. The operation of the overall ADVANTX room is described in the ADVANTX Operator’s
Manual.

Observe operating instructions. Improper use of the DLX could lead to retakes of
CAUTION diagnostic images thus requiring additional patient and operator exposure to
radiation.

Let at least 10 seconds elapse between the time the DLX cabinet bulkhead is
CAUTION switched off and then switched on again.

1–1 Starting the DLX Application

The DLX console is switched on independently of the Advantx System. The switch on DLX cabinet
should be set to the | position, and should remain this way. Refer to the Advantx Operator’s Manual for
Advantx power–up procedure information.

D After the system has been initialized, the start-up window appears on the flat panel. At the dlx login
prompt type dlx, in lower case, and press <Return>. Enter the DLX password when required (see
Note below).
Note: The password is activated or disactivated during the DLX installation by the GE Service Engineer
according to customer wishes. Disactivating the password is the customer’s responsibility. See
Job Card CNF2 A for more information.

D During initialization the software status is displayed:

DLX Application Version C1.XX Date.
D The message Please wait......Starting DLX application appears, a pattern is displayed on the
Image Monitor and, after about two minutes, the PATIENT BROWSER FROM DISK screen
appears.
Note: To reboot from the ok prompt, type boot.

If the connection between DLX console and DLX cabinet is not correct, the message Trying to connect
the DLX cabinet (check DLX cabinet power) appears. In this case, check that the DLX cabinet
bulkhead is powered on. Then do the following:

D Exit the DLX console application.

D Power off the DLX cabinet bulkhead, then power it back on.
D Restart the application on the DLX console.
If the problem persists, call your GE Service Representative.

INSITE OPTION CHECK

Job Card VF 80 2 of 2

OPERATION:

The image(s) you wish to save for analysis must be displayed on the DLX console monitor; It may be an
image from a sequence (Review Image), a Photo Image, or a LIH (Last Image Hold) Image. If the image
comes from a Review Image, the loop must be paused on the image of interest.

Position the mouse cursor in the black area at the bottom of the dialogue screen, and click any button on the
mouse. The Main Menu will appear. From the Main Menu, select the ”SAVE INSITE IMAGE” option. The
Insite window will appear on the top left of the dialogue screen :

Fr Lat Fr
Live or Live Live

Monoplane Configuration Biplane Configuration

If your system is a single plane system , click on ”FR LIVE” to activate the store function for the snapshot;
if your system is a biplane system, click on ”FR LIVE” if the image of interest was acquired on the frontal
plane, or ”LAT LIVE” if the image of interest was acquired on the lateral plane. (Note that if the frontal
image is displayed on the console, you can transfer the corresponding lateral image by clicking on ”LAT
LIVE” without displaying the lateral image on the console).

When the image transfer begins, the following message should be displayed on the screen:

Please Wait: Image transfer in progress

The storing of the snapshot may take up to 10 seconds.

After the snapshot store is complete, you must click on the exit key ( ) at the top left of the Image
Snapshot dialogue screen. Your system is available for normal use.

This function uses DLX controller disk space to store the images;
CAUTION each time the function is used, the local service engineer MUST be called
to ensure the transfer via Insite, and to free up the DLX disk space.

If a problem occurs during the transfer, the error message ”Critical problem image transfer aborted” is
displayed. Refer to the errlog file for more details on the error.

SECTION 2
TASK DESCRIPTION

This tool allows to test the ethernet link between the DLX sun workstation and the image processor when a
network problem is suspected. This tool will try to detect an error by testing the network. If an error is
detected, it will try to analyse where this error come from.

In the DLX configuration there are three main parts wich may cause errors :
– the ethernet board : one is in the Sun workstation and the other is on CPU board in VDP.
– the cables and connectors associated.
– transceivers.

Check that the Ethernet link is functioning correctly.

ETHERNET LINK CHECK

Job Card VF 90 2 of 4

SECTION 3
OPERATION:

This tool provides 5 ways to test the network :

1. Test if target is alive :

This option will try to ping the VDP 5 times with 100 bytes packets. If no response is received the tool
will analyse the possible cause of no response. These causes are :
Group 1 :
– The target name or IP address you entered is not correct.
– VDP target is not powered on : Just power on VDP.
– VDP target is in debug mode : Press reset on VDP’s CPU board.
Group 2 :
– Cables or connectors are damaged.
– Transceivers are not working correctly.
– Ethernet adapters are not working correctly.

The tool is able to determine if the error is a group 1 or a group 2 but will not give you exactly the error
because the same error can be caused by different problems.

2. Test with different packets size

The purpose of this test is to determine the influence of packet size on network behavior. For that this
option allow to send :
– 1000 packets of 64 bytes
– 1000 packets of 128 bytes
– 1000 packets of 256 bytes
– 1000 packets of 512 bytes
– 1000 packets of 1024 bytes
– 1000 packets of 2048 bytes

If no response is received from the target, the tool won’t try to send another serie.
Statistics will be displayed for each packet size.
An error message will be displayed if errors are detected.

3. Test until an error occurs (CTRL–C to interrupt)

This test will send serie of 100 random size packets to the target and will display statistics for each serie.
The packet size is generated randomly from 64 bytes to 2000 bytes.
If an error is detected, the test stops, displays for how long it was running and displays global statistics.
You can stop the test when you want by pressing Ctrl–C key.

4. Test until CTRL–C is pressed

The same as above but does not stop when an error occurs. Will stop only when the user will press
Ctrl–c key. It will display for how long it was running and the cumulative statistics for the period.

5. Send large packets very quickly

This test will send 10000 packets of 2000 bytes with a 10 ms interval between packets. This will
overload the network and may help to make problems appear.
