Lesson Plan

Statistics and Probability

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
 Illustrates a random variable (discrete and continuous) M11/12SP-IIIa-1
 Distinguishes between a discrete and a continuous random variable M11/12SP-IIIa-2
 Finds the possible values of a random variable M11/12SP-IIIa-3
 Illustrates a probability distribution for a discrete random variable and its properties
M11/12SP-IIIa-4
 Constructs the probability mass function of a discrete random variable and its
corresponding histogram M11/12SP-IIIa-5
 Computes probabilities corresponding to a given random variable M11/12SP-IIIa-6

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: Random variable

III. PROCEDURE:

A1-Activity

Drill:
Express each as a decimal.
1) 12% 2) 8 ½% 3) 200%
4) 3% 5) 10.5% 6) 0.75%

Review: Exponential and Logarithmic Equations and Inequalities

Motivation: You wish to have Php 100,000.00 in 5 years and you are making a
single deposit for that purpose. Visit a local bank or any financial institution to obtain
information concerning the different accounts they offer. Has any bank or institution you
have visited advised you on what to do?

Lesson Proper: How long does it take for Php 500,000.00 to double at 6% using
simple interest?

A2-Analysis:
 In how many years will money double itself at 12% per annum?
 At what simple interest rate will a sum of money double itself in 12 years?
 At what simple interest rate will a sum of money become four times of itself in 15
years?
 A sum of money at simple interest doubles in 6 years. In how many years will it
become 4 times itself?
 How long will it take a sum of money to increase its value by 40% if it is invested
at 5% per annum by simple interest?
