How To Shop

the Stores
101
Once you have it mastered, CVS has potential to be one of your top couponing stores! CVS is often the best place to buy
your toiletries and some food items too! Best of all- it’s the easiest place to score ‘moneymakers’!
CVS allows one manufacturer coupon and one store coupon (CRT) per product. You may use CVS Extra Bucks (ECBs) in
addition to these coupons.

The best deals to be had at CVS are “Extra Care Bucks” offers. Watch my matchups and the CVS ad for promos like this:
Spend $15.00 on participating candy, receive $5.00 Extra Care Bucks. You must only spend $15.00, before coupons! Your
after-coupon total can be as low as you can get it!! The strategy is to use as many coupons as you can to bring down
your total. Then you pay and receive your $5.00 Extra Care Bucks.

Once you’ve done your first transaction, you’ll have Extra Care Bucks to use each time you shop and these will bring your
total down lower and lower! You may use your Extra Care Bucks by separating your transactions and “rolling” them from
one transaction to the next, or do like I do, roll from one week to the next. Soon you’ll have a stash of $20.00-$40.00 in
Extra Care Bucks and you’ll be shopping each week and bringing home $50.00 of products for pennies, all while
continually rolling and replenishing your Extra Care Bucks so you’ll never run out or let them expire!

CVS advertises “Free” products each week. Are they really free?
Each week CVS has “Free after Extra Care Bucks” offers. Example to
left: Pay $0.99 for Pilot EasyTouch pen 2 pk. and receive an Extra Care
Buck {coupon that acts like a gift card} for $0.99 off your next
purchase. This item isn’t actually free because you have to pay for it
first. These FREE deals always have limits of how many you may buy
and receive Extra Care Bucks.

What is a Moneymaker? Are you really getting paid cash?

No. But you will often see deals on my posts that state ‘moneymaker’; You’re not
actually getting cash from the checker. A moneymaker is defined as a transaction
where you’re out of pocket total is less than the total of your Extra Care Bucks (or
sometimes rebates). At right is an example of a money maker from last week.

Colgate Total Toothpaste $2.88

Use $1.00/1 Manufacturer Coupon
Pay Out of Pocket: $1.88
Receive $2.00 Extra Bucks
Final Price: Moneymaker of $0.12

What are Fillers?

Fillers are needed when you’re using a purchase-based coupon like $4.00 off $20.00 minimum purchase. If your total is
$19.99, you need to buy something cheap to make your total over $20.00 Spend $0.50 on a pack of gum or an eraser in
order to save $4.00.
May I have more than one CVS card?
No. However, your family members may apply for cards. Your Extra Care Bucks are tied to the card from which they
were printed, so you’ll have to keep them separate if you maintain more than one card.

Extra Care Buck OFFERS:

Weekly ECB Offers: found in your weekly Sunday ad
Monthly ECB Offers: good all month, find these offers in the ‘monthly ECB booklet’ at your local CVS.

When an Extra Care Buck offer says, “limit 1″, does this mean one per day? or per store?
No, limit one refers to the entire offer period. This applies across the entire store, not just one location. A week long
Extra Care Buck will only print for your card once in that week. A month long Extra Care Buck will only print once all
month. If your someone else in your family has an additional card, you can each get one Extra Care Buck to print.

If the Extra Care Buck promo requires I spend $20.00 on participating products to receive a $10.00 Extra
Care Buck, is the $20.00 minimum my pre-coupon total?
Yes, you must be at least at $20.00 before you hand over any coupons. Your total out of pocket might be $0.04, but as
long as your original total was $20.00 or more, you will receive your Extra Care Buck after payment.

May I use more than one Extra Care Buck per transaction?
Yes! Extra Care Bucks are like gift cards. Make note that if you use a $5.00 Extra Care Buck on a $4.25 purchase, you
forfeit the extra $0.75 or risk them rejecting your Extra Care Buck.

Does CVS issue rainchecks?

Yes! If you ask for a rain check on an Extra Care Buck offer, your raincheck will be written for the amount you would
have paid when factoring in Extra Care Buck savings. For example: If Colgate toothpaste was priced at $1.88 and you
bought 1, you will receive a $1.00 ECB. If your store was sold out of Colgate Toothpaste, they would write you a rain
check for one (because it was a limit 1 promo) Colgate Toothpaste at $0.88.
Different Types of Coupons from CVS

WHAT’S AN ECB?
ECB stands for Extra Care Buck- now referred to
only as “Extra Care Bucks”
ECBs print according to the store’s weekly or
monthly advertised deals. When you make a
qualifying purchase, you receive the coordinating
ECB value as advertised.
ECBs are similar to catalinas or register rewards,
but they print directly onto the bottom of your
receipt.

If I find ECB’s on the ground or in the waste basket, can I use those?
No! ECBs are tied to your Extra Care card. They will only be valid when used in conjunction with your card. If you and a
family member each have a card, you’ll have to keep the ECBs separate for the two cards. (If you forget your Extra Care
Card, you may use your phone number)

In a ‘spend $20 on participating products get $10.00 back’ promo, do I have to spend the $20.00 all at once?
No! This is one thing that makes CVS unique. You can spend $5.00 on participating products on Monday and then $15.00
on Thursday at another CVS location and you will receive your ECBs on the bottom of your second receipt. You only must
spend the required amount during the promotional period. If it’s a month long ECB, you can shop in little bits all month
long!

If I buy participating product in 3 different promos all in one transaction, will my ECBs print separately or
will I get one larger ECB with the total value from all 3 promos?
You will receive 3 different ECBs and on each ECB will read the promo from which it was earned. CVS receipts can get
very long with all the ECBs, CRTs and Purchase-Based Coupons. You’ll have to go home and clip them apart!
**If an ECB promo doesn’t ‘limit 1′ the rules change. If you participate in a spend $15.00, get $5.00 ECBs (without a limit)
and you spend $45.00, you will receive one ECB for $15.00**

May I use my ECBs on the current transaction?

No, you won’t even receive your ECBs until after you’ve already paid. Save your ECBs from one transaction and use them
on the next. Or roll them from week to week.

May use a $4.00 ECB on a $2.99 product?

Yes, but you will lose the $1.01 difference. Try to pay with total ECBs just under the total out of pocket.

When do ECBs expire?

4 weeks after printed. . . exactly. If you make a purchase at 9:00 am, and four weeks later you shop at 2:00 pm, in order
to use your ECB before it expires, the cash register will beep at you. Your cashier will then look at the expiration date
and do a manual override, but now you know you can expect the beep if you’re shopping on day your ECB expires.
WHAT’S A CRT?
CRT stands for Cash Register Tape.

CRTs print at the bottom of your receipt and are generated based on your purchasing
history (seemingly random).

I generally refer to CRTs as being the product specific coupons, like the $1.00 off any
deodorant, at left.

ECBs are like a gift card, CRTs are like a coupon.

I just registered for my CVS card I didn’t receive any CRTs on my first receipt! Why not?
The computer will take a little while to recognize you and begin printing CRTs. Just be
patient, soon they’ll come!

When do CRTs expire?

Generally 4 weeks after printed.

WHAT IS A PURCHASE BASED OR $/$$ COUPON?

Purchase-Based coupons specify a dollar amount off a minimum dollar future
purchase.
Some common values:
$2.00 off $10.00
$3.00 off $15.00
$4.00 off $20.00
$5.00 off $30.00
$10.00 off $50.00
$15.00 off $75.00
Purchase based coupons print at the end of your receipt with your ECBs and CRTs.

Can I use a $4.00/$20.00 and a $2.00/$10.00 on one $30.00+ purchase?

No, you may divide into two transactions but you cannot use more than one purchase-based coupon per transaction.
Fine Print Reads: Limit of one purchase-based coupon, I.E., $4.00 off $20.00 purchase, per transaction.

How can I get more of these coupons?

Sign up for an ExtraCare account at your local store to receive emails for $4.00/$10.00 or $10.00/$50.00 Purchase Based
Coupons.

When do purchase based coupons expire?

Generally 2 weeks after printed
Checkout At CVS
When I shop at CVS, I all about saving as much as I possibly can, so I prefer to switch up the order I present my coupons
in and save even more money by minimizing my sales tax! I’ll tell you how it works:

We all know that we pay tax on the total purchase, before manufacturer coupons. Manufacturers coupons do not
reduce your sales tax, (if you spend $50.00 and use $35.00 in manufacturers coupons, you will be taxed on the full
$50.00). BUT, if you use CVS CRTs or ECBs, your taxable amount is reduced.

Also, CVS coupons will not scan through to pay “tax”. If you’re left owing $3.00 and your last coupon is an ECB, it will not
scan through, because the $3.00 is all or partly tax. Manufacturer coupons will still scan through and can take your total
down as low as zero!

Here is an example:
Purchase $100.00 (just for easy math)
You have a $15.00 off $75.00 purchase based coupon, $10.00 worth of CRTs, $35.00 in ECBs, and $20.00 in
manufacturer coupons
Your total is going to be $20.00, but let’s examine the sales tax.
Purchase $100.00
$15.00 off $75.00 purchase based coupon, and $10.00 off in CRTs
*****You will be taxed on $75.00*****
Then $20.00 off in manufacturer coupons and $35.00 in ECBs
Final Price: $20.00, plus your state sales tax on $75.00
Here is the New Check Out Order:
Purchase $100
$15.00 off $75.00 purchase based coupon (Always use 1st)
$10.00 off CRTs (Always use 2nd if you have them)
$35.00 ECBs (Always use 3rd if you have them) (if you don’t have CRTs, then use these 2nd)
*****You will be taxed on $40.00*****
Then $20.00 off manufacturer coupons
Final Price: $20.00, plus your state sales tax on $40.00
In a state with 8.75% sales tax, this would yield additional savings of $3.06
From now on, ALWAYS do this order when presenting coupons to CVS:
1. Scan Extra Care Card
2. CVS Purchase Based coupons (Ex: $4.00 off $20.00 minimum purchase)
3. CVS Store Coupons (In-ad coupons or CRTs)
4. ECBs
5. Manufacturer Coupons

+UP Rewards Program

One of the biggest perks of being a Rite Aid Wellness member is the fact that you can take advantage of the +Up
Rewards Program. The +UP Reward program is an incentive program that allows manufacturers to provide a +UP
Reward to consumers for buying a specific product and/or specific number of products. Every week, different items are
advertised in the weekly circular that generate a +UP Reward. (This program is very similar to the Walgreens Register
Reward program OR CVS’ Extra Care Buck Program). The +UP Reward consists of a coupon or a number of coupons that
print at the bottom of your receipt and can be used on your NEXT purchase. Each advertised +UP Reward is limited to 1
per wellness card (unless otherwise stated). Keep in mind that you MUST give the cashier your Wellness card or the
phone # associated with your Wellness card prior to the items being scanned in order to be eligible for the +UP
Reward(s). There is no limit to the number of +Up Rewards redeemed in a single transaction as long as the pretax total is
greater than the combined value of the +UP Rewards. For easy understanding, it’s best to think of these rewards as gift
cards, except that you cannot leave a balance on them or use them to purchase less than the value of the +UP Reward .

Single Check Rebates

Rite Aid has a very user-friendly Single Check Rebate program! Basically you will buy participating Single check Rebate
products, then submit your receipts online and get a check in the mail! These rebates allow you to get items for FREE
and sometimes even make money! Yes, you can make money purchasing items! All you need to do is go online to
riteaid.com and sign up for this FREE program.

Many Single Check Rebate items will end up being FREE once you receive the rebate. For example, if an items is $2.99
and qualifies for a $2.99 Single Check Rebate, then the item will be free after the rebate is received! Even better, use a
manufacturer coupon in addition to the rebate and you may actually make money on the deal!
As you make purchases throughout each month, you can save your receipts and enter them online all at once at the end
of the rebate program period. If you prefer, you can enter your individual receipts each time you make a purchase
throughout the month (there is no limit to the number of receipts you can enter); I prefer this option as there is less of a
chance that I will lose the receipt(s) or forget to enter it. At the end of the month, request your rebate by clicking the
request rebate button. Do NOT click the “request rebate” button if you are planning on purchasing more Single Check
Rebate items before the rebate program period has ended as Rite Aid ONLY allows one submission per household per
rebate period.

When you submit your receipts online, it will typically take about 1-7 days for the rebate items to display in your
account. If you encounter any problems, call the Rite Aid Single Check Rebate Customer Care.

Here are a few tips on Rite Aid’s Single Check Rebate program.

Do I have to clip UPC codes and mail in my receipts to get rebates?

NO! I am a rebate cynic and I think rebates are often not worth my time! Rite Aid’s program is as easy as they come!
When I get home from the store, I log in to my Rite Aid account and fill out four boxes (pictured at right) store #, register
#, transaction # and date. That’s it! If you prefer, you may keep all your receipts until the end of the month and enter
them all at once.

How do I know which Items have rebates?

Every month, Rite Aid offers rebates on different items. You can find them in the weekly store ad– the price will read
$5.99 product, $2.99 after “Single Check Rebate”. The entire list for the month is available at
http://riteaid.rebateplus.com/

What is the offer period for rebates? Are they valid from the 1st-31st of the month?
NO! The above web address to RiteAid.Rebateplus will tell you the exact offer and the length of time it will run. Usually
it is not a calendar month. In August 2009, the rebate period was July 26th-August 29th.

How long does it take to get your rebate in the mail?

You may request your check once per month. Make sure to wait until the end of the month, or you won’t be able to take
request your check for other SCR offers until the next month. You’ll receive your check within a week of your request.
It’s mailed to you and looks like a post card.

Do I have to have a store loyalty card to get a Single Check Rebate?

NO! You simply sign up with a username and password at RiteAid.com. You don’t need to sign up before you shop
either, you can go ahead and shop and then come home and sign up.

How many rebates can I submit? When an item is “Free after Rebate” may I buy 20 of them?
NO! SCRs are usually limit one per household. I submit multiple rebates, but for different addresses. I have my
grandma’s explicit permission to shop Rite Aid deals and get the SCR mailed to her house in my name. You cannot
submit more than one rebate per household.

Video Values Program

Rite Aid has Store Coupons which can be ’stacked’ with a manufacturer coupons, meaning you may use two coupons on
one product, as long as one is a store coupon and the other a manufacturer. Store Coupons can be found in the weekly
ads, Rite Aid Coupon Books, or through Video Values.

For the Video Values Program you will basically, spend a few seconds or minutes watching various video advertisements
and for doing so, you earn video credits to that can then be used to print Rite Aid coupons! Each Video Value
advertisement that you watch you will be given a coupon for that product and a Video Value credit. You can simply
watch the advertisements that you wish, to earn Rite Aid coupons for that product and or once you earn 20 Video Value
credits, you’ll get a bonus $4 off $20 in-store purchase coupon. These Video Values coupons can also be stacked with
manufacturer coupons for even more savings!
Walgreens has many secrets to help you save each week! With a combination of in-ad coupons, manufacturer coupons,
Register Rewards and Sale Items, you can often “get paid” to shop at Walgreens.

In Ad Coupons
When you flip through the pages of a Walgreens circular, you will see many “in-
ad” coupons. These are store coupons that typically set the price of the item- and
will usually impose a limit to the number you can buy. These coupons will come
out in the Sunday Paper and will be good through the following Saturday. It is
Walgreen’s policy to allow you to use a store coupon in conjunction with a
manufacturer coupon on one item.

Register Reward Program

Walgreen’s has a “Catalina” program called Register Rewards. A Register Reward is a coupon that
prints after you make a qualifying purchase. It is typically good for “X” amount off of your next
transaction. Pictured below is what the ad will look like in the Walgreen’s Circular. When you buy
the advertised item, after paying, you will receive a coupon (Register Reward) to use on your next
purchase. You can make this a “moneymaker” buy using manufacturer coupons as well.

Here is a Money Makin’ Scenario for the ad pictured:

True North Nut Crisps or Clusters $3.00
Buy 1, Earn a $3.00 Register Reward
Use the $1.00/1 IP
Pay $2.00 Out of Pocket, and receive the $3.00 Register Reward.

Will more than one register reward print out on the same transaction (buy 2 different products that each have a
register reward)?
If you buy two (or more) DIFFERENT register reward items in one transaction, one reward will print for each different
product that you have. However, if you buy two of the SAME item, only one Register Reward will print. So, if you want to
buy 2 of the same product to trigger a Register Reward, do separate transactions.

Can I use the Register Reward that I received from item “X” to buy the same item “X”
This is known as “rolling” Catalina’s and cannot be done at Walgreens, if you want another Register Reward to print. To
best way to get around this, and keep your out of pocket expense low, is to find 2 different products that trigger the
same value Register Reward and alternate buying those items in separate transaction, paying for the 2nd transaction
with the first register reward, and so forth.
Can I buy 1 item, and use 1 manufacturer coupon and 1 Register Reward Coupon to pay?
At Walgreen’s their registers will not allow you to have more coupons than items. If you have 1 item that you are buying,
and you are paying with 1 manufacturer coupon and 1 Register Reward, you will need to add a “filler” item. This applies
to all coupons. If you have in-ad coupons, manufacturer coupons and Register Rewards- just do a quick count of items
and coupons. Make sure that you have at least one more item than you do coupons. Look for a clearance item, pack of
gum, individual caramel, or Sunday newspaper to add as a filler item.

In Store Coupon Booklets:

Walgreen’s is also known for their in store coupon booklets. One that they
almost always have is the Children’s Activity Booklet. They sell for $0.99 and can
usually be found in the color book section or pharmacy. Inside are store coupons
that will usually have a total value of around $20.00. Also keep your eye out for
other seasonal coupon booklets. Seasonal coupon booklets are free and can be
found near the registers.

Remember the Order

Here is what we have found is the best order to hand the cashier your coupons.
This way will allow for any possible overage:

1. Manufacturer Coupons
2. Walgreen’s In-Ad Coupons
3. Register Rewards

This order works especially well in a scenario like this:

BUY 2 Dentyne Gum, Regular Price $1.00 each
Manufacturer coupon for Buy 1, Get 1 FREE (or -$1.00)
Walgreen’s In Ad Coupon for 2/$1.00 (or-$1.00)
Final Price: FREE

Here’s what it would look like if you gave them the in-ad coupon first:
BUY 2 Dentyne Gum, Regular Price $1.00 each
Walgreen’s In Ad Coupon for 2/$1.00 (or-$1.00)
Manufacturer coupon for Buy 1, Get 1 FREE (or -$.50)
Final Price: $.50
Shopping KMart with coupons can lead to big savings if you make smart choices! If you’re looking for one store where
you can do all your shopping, KMart is NOT it, but if you watch for sales, especially Double Coupon Days, you can score
BIG at KMart!

KMart does what are called “Double Coupon Days”, only select areas participate each time, so your area might see
Double Coupons about 4-6 weeks per year. Double Coupons Days will run for an entire week: Sunday to Saturday.
Coupons are doubled automatically by the register.

You’ll know when your store is participating in double coupon days by the large red box in
the lower left corner of your weekly ad; example at left. Typically stores will double a
coupon that is up to $2.00 in value. Present your $2.00 coupon and receive $4.00 off.
Coupons valued at $2.01 or above will not be doubled.

KMart occasionally {rarely} triples coupons up to $0.75 in value. The front page of the
weekly ad will also specify if tripling is going on.

KMart has smart cash registers! Coupons are auto-doubled as your cashier rings them
through.

When a coupons value exceeds the value of the item, {or when double the coupon’s value exceeds value of item} the
register auto adjusts the price of the coupon down to the price of the item. You cannot make overage {make money} on
purchases at KMart. When a cashier scans your coupon and it exceeds the item’s value, icons will pop up on their screen
indicating multiple products the coupon could be used for and their respective prices. The cashier will touch the icon
that matches your purchased item and the value of the coupon will adjust.

Here are 2 examples During Double Coupon Days:

Buy 1 Men’s Gillette Body Wash, $3.99
Use the $2.00/1 coupon
(The register will take off $2.00, then icons will pop up on the computer screen for different Gillette products,
the cashier will select Men’s Body Wash @ $3.99 and the smart register will take off an additional $1.99, so as
not to pay you overage.)
Final Price: FREE
What about when KMart isn’t doubling? Should I still shop KMart?
If you live in a large city with many shopping options, the answer is probably ‘no’. But if you don’t have a lot of options,
KMart can continue to be a good place to coupon shop.

KMart sends out printable coupons, such as $5.00 off $50.00 purchase via email for those signed up for their newsletter.
If you are not signed up you can go to www.kmart.com and then click on “email specials” to sign up.

There’s always clearance sections to be perused too, but with KMart’s policy not to accept store and manufacturer
coupons together, coupon options at KMart on any given day aren’t stupendous.
Secrets to Success at Target
Target has some of the BEST store coupons! Target coupons can be found on their website and occasionally in the
Sunday newspaper. Target's Coupon Policy allows you to use 1 store coupon AND 1 manufacturer coupon on the same
product!

Since Target takes both a Target Coupon and a Manufacturer Coupon for the same product, how do I tell the
difference between the two?
On each coupon (usually at the top near the expiration date) there is a box. In that box the coupon will read Target
Coupon OR Manufacturer Coupon. If it says Target Coupon, then it is a coupon that Target the corporation has issued. If
it says, Manufacturer Coupon, then it is a coupon that the Manufacturer of the product has issued.

Here is an example of how to “stack” a Target Coupon and a Manufacturer Coupon on the same item:
Use 1 Target Coupon and 1 Manufacturer Coupon:
Yoplait Splitz Assorted Varieties 4 pk., 2/$4.00
Use the $0.50/1 IP Target Coupon AND
Use the $0.50/1 from 8/22 SS OR IP
Final Price: $1.00 each

OR

Use 2 Target Coupons and 1 Manufacturer Coupon:

Kid Cuisine Entrees, $1.75
Use 2 $1.00/1 IP Target Coupon AND
Use the $1.00/2 from June All You Magazine
Final Price: $0.75 each

Can I use my Target Coupons and Manufacturer Coupons on a Travel Size Item?
Most Target stores have an aisle dedicated exclusively to travel size items usually priced around $1.00. Some coupons
(Target and Manufacturer) exclude travel size or will specify a size, but some do not. If you look at your coupon wording
carefully, most of the time you can use those coupons on the travel size items and get them for free. Occasionally when
the value of a coupon exceeds the price of the item, the register will beep at the cashier letting them know that there is
something wrong. Target registers are famous for doing this, but as long as you kindly point out to your cashier that the
coupon doesn't exclude travel size then the cashier should push the coupon through. Target's coupon policy states that
if the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item, then the value of the coupon will be adjusted down to the price
of the item, so that you are not being paid to purchase the item. Some Target stores have registers that will
automatically adjust the price of the coupon, so that the cashier doesn't have to.

Here is what it will look like when you use a coupon on a travel size item:

Right Guard Sport Fresh Scent (Travel Size), $0.97

Use the $2.00/2 IP here
Final Price: BOTH FREE
Does Target take a coupon for an item that is on clearance?
At most Target stores you will find clearance items (marked with an orange sticker) throughout the store. Sometimes
clearance items can be found on the end of the aisle, in a clearance bin, or on the shelf in their normal location. There is
nothing in Target's coupon policy that states that you cannot use a coupon on a clearance item, so you can yes, you can
use both a Target Coupon and/or a Manufacturer Coupon on a clearance item.

How do the Target Gift Card Promotions work?

Often Target will run a "Buy Item X, Get a Target Gift Card" promotion. The best part about these promotions is that you
can still use both Target Coupons and Manufacturer Coupons. Combining these gift card promotions with Target
Coupons and Manufacturer Coupons will result in you saving even more. In most cases after you factor in the gift card
savings you will actually make money for buying item X.

Here is an example of how a Target Gift Card Promotion works:

~Buy 10 Sobe Lifewater, Get a $5.00 Gift Card~
Buy 10 SoBe Lifewater, $1.00 each
Use 5 BOGO FREE IP
Pay $5.00 plus tax OOP, then get a $5.00 Target Gift Card
Final Price: FREE

If for some reason the self price of an item isn't marked that it is a gift card promotion, then keep in mind that you can
always find the nearest price scanner in the store and it will show you the price and let you know if there is a promotion
attached to the item.
Wal-Mart definitely has its ups and downs when shopping with coupons. Depending on your area, you may love or hate
Wal-Mart. I have Wal-Mart stores in my area that I choose not to shop at, and I have Wal-Mart stores I shop at
occasionally. Deciding if Wal-Mart is worth your time, will be entirely up to you.

Secrets to Success at Wal-Mart

Shopping at Wal-Mart is pretty simple. It’s all about combining a “Roll Back” (or sale) Price with a coupon. I try to
provide matchups with sales and coupons, but Wal-Mart doesn’t always put out weekly ads. They do not run gift card
promotions and they do not have a Catalina or Register Reward program.

Here is what they will do:

-Wal-Mart Will Price Match a Competitor Ad.
Just bring the ad in, and let your cashier know that you will be price matching before they ring it up. No need to go to
customer service for this, the checker can do it right from the check stand. They will not price match for a “gimmick”
sale- like spend $25.00, Save $5.00 Instantly, nor will they match a price based on a rain check. I have never had a
problem matching a competitor price, when following these guidelines.

-Wal-Mart Will Accept Competitor Coupons.

As long as it matches the item requirement for size, brand and product they will take a competitor’s coupon. I have had
limited success with Wal-Mart actually accepting competitor coupons. I have had store managers and corporate assure
me that this is their policy. When using a competitor coupon on an item, you cannot also use a manufacturer coupon. I
have problems with checkers accepting competitor coupons. If you have a problem with this, politely pull out your policy
and ask for a manager. Hopefully this will clear up any issues.

-Wal-Mart Will often give you trouble for “limit 1 coupon per purchase”.
I hate to say it, but I have to prepare you! I cannot count the times on my fingers and toes that I have had to explain
what “Limit 1 Coupon per Purchase” means to the cashiers, shift managers, assistant managers and store managers. So
here is the lesson: Limit 1 Coupon per Purchase means Limit 1 Coupon PER ITEM PURCHASED! If you have 5 Bottles of
Shampoo that is 5 purchases. The coupon is telling you, that you cannot use 2 coupons on 1 item. Purchase is not the
same as transaction!

FAQs
Does Wal-Mart Give Overage?
Say I have a coupon for $1.00/1 and the item rings up at $0.97
Here’s what happens:
1. Cashier scans item
2. Cashier scans coupon
3. Register beeps with prompt on the screen for cashier “Correct coupon amount?”
4. Cashier can hit the “Yes” button and register will give overage OR cashier can enter the price of the item (in this case
$0.97) OR he/she can get all flustered and decide that you cannot use the coupon because its beeping and they don’t
know what that means…in this case ask for a STORE manager to assist.

Does Wal-Mart accept internet printable coupons?

manufacturer, to ensure the coupon can be processed for payment.
- The coupon should have a scan-able bar code.
- The coupon should have an expiration date.
- The coupon cannot be a photocopy.
- The limit is one coupon per item, per customer.
- A Salaried Manager can refuse to accept a coupon if it does not meet any or all of these guidelines.

Kinds of Coupons That are Accepted

Manufacturer Newspaper coupons: These coupons are found in the free standing inserts in your Sunday paper: Smart
Source, Red Plum and Proctor & Gamble.

Printable Coupons: Any that are scanable, they will accept.

Catalina Coupons: At most stores, you’ll find the gray Catalina machines sitting at the registers. These machines
dispense long, receipt-like coupons. Don’t let your cashier forget to hand them to you! Catalina coupons may be store or
manufacturer coupons. You may receive a Catalina worth $2.00 off your next purchase of $10.00 from the produce
section. You could also get a Catalina for $1.00 off planters nuts, it just depends on the coupon.

eCoupons: Load these coupons directly onto your Store Loyalty Card. When you swipe the card or present your phone
number to the cashier, you will automatically receive the savings & you can see them on your receipt. eCoupons are only
good on one product; you cannot buy 10 of the same and expect the savings on more than one. The cash register will
still accept a manufacturer coupon in addition to an eCoupon, but they both are manufacturer coupons. I’m guessing
that as e-coupons become more mainstream they’ll find a way to limit this use. For now, the e-coupon websites say
things like “they don’t suggest” using eCoupons with manufacturer coupons– whatever that means. . .
There are 4 Different eCoupon providers:
-Cellflire, P&GeSaver, Shortcuts: These are all free to sign up and they all have lots of coupons that can help you save
loads of money!

-Upromise: Instead of receiving cash off your purchases, your savings goes into your Upromise account, where it can
earn interest for tax-free college savings, pay off student loans or you can receive a check for college expenses!

Promotions That Are Run at Grocery Stores

‘Save Instantly Promo’
Example: Spend “$20″, Save “$5″ Instantly.

The register instantly deducts $5 after you spend $20 (total before coupons) on participating products and you scan your
preferred card. You may take advantage of this promo multiple times in one transaction.
Example: If you spend $40 on participating products, the register will deduct $10 (twice in $5 increments)

‘OYNO Promo’
Example: Spend $20.00, Save $5.00 On your next order (OYNO)
Your total before coupons is $20.00, then present any coupons and pay. With your receipt your cashier will hand you a
Catalina coupon worth $5.00 off your next order. These Catalina’s can be rolled, which means you can do one
transaction, receive the Catalina, do another transaction (identical or completely different), pay with the first Catalina
and a new Catalina will still print if you have qualified for the ONYO Promo.

Often, OYNO promos can potentially be ‘moneymakers’. If you get your out of pocket price to be very low with
coupons, then you can make money because you will receive the Catalina your next order.
Example: $20.00 pre coupon total, present $17.00 worth of coupons. Out of pocket $3.00 and receive a
Catalina for $5.00 off your next order. This is called a moneymaker.
Stacking Coupons
All stores have In-Ad Coupons found in that stores weekly ad. These store coupons can be stacked with manufacturer
coupons for additional savings. You may use one manufacturer coupon and one store coupon per item.
