WIRELESS LAN SETUP SHARP

For MX-2640/3140/3640N series, two connection methods are available for Wireless LAN:-

Infrastructure Mode:
Infrastructure mode allows for wireless communication between two client devices via a host (access
point). The MFP connects to an access point to obtain an IP address.

Simultaneous usage of Infrastructure mode and wired connection is prohibited.

Access Point Mode:

Access Point (Ad-Hoc) mode allows for direct wireless communication between two client devices.
Wireless devices acquire an IP address from the MFP directly, allowing Print/Scan features to be available
from mobile devices.

Simultaneous usage of Access Point mode and wired connection is allowed however, mobile devices will
not be able to connect to the intranet/internet when connected to the MFP Wireless LAN.

Wireless LAN Support:

For Wireless LAN specification information, please refer to the Machine Specification section [Wireless

SHARP EEPROM HANDLING PROCEDURE

WARNING:
Never execute Sim16 to clear U2 trouble WITHOUT investigating the root cause of U2 trouble by using
the following procedure:-

1. Ensure to follow ESD procedures (using an earth strap) while handling the PWBs as EEPROM data
may become corrupted due to static charge.
2. Never insert the EEPROM to the socket in reverse.
3. U2 trouble occurs 100% if the machine is turned on after inserting the EEPROM in reverse.
Execution of Sim16 to clear this U2 trouble will lead to corrupted data which cannot be fully
recovered in the field.
4. Make sure that PCU, MFP & SCAN EEPROMs are not switched - label each EEPROM for
identification purposes before removing from the PWB.
5. Please handle EEPROMs with care to prevent bending or damage of pins.
They will be broken if bent several of times. (This type of trouble has been reported many times.).
6. Do not use foamed styrol etc. for packing during the transportation of EEPROM.
Foamed styrol easily generates static charge. In some cases, EEPROM is damaged just by placing it
into foamed styrol.
7. Make sure to use black sponge (anti-static) for packing during transportation. The black sponge is
also used to pack EEPROM provided as service parts.

CAUTION:
Please note that counter data and machine adjustment values are recorded in the EEPROM. If the data in
EEPROM is corrupted, it is impossible to recover. In such cases, the only solution will be to initialise the
EEPROM therefore, counter data and adjustment values will be reset to “0” or “default”. Once all the
adjustment values are set to default, it will be necessary to readjust all the adjustment values (ie. perform
a complete run-up procedure).

Caution to prevent damage on EEPROM:

In case any trouble other than U2 occurs to the machine and the PWB has been replaced (eg. remove and
reinstall the EEPROM onto the replacement PWB for example) and U2 trouble occurs right after power
on, never execute Sim16 under this condition.

As previously mentioned, the data in EEPROM will be corrupted after Sim 16 execution therefore:-
 In such cases, EEPROM may have been inserted in reverse or MFP and PCU EEPROM may have
been switched.
 Turn off the machine without execution of Sim16, install the correct EEPROM into the proper
position (on the PWB), power on the machine again and then execute Sim16. This way, U2 trouble
should be cleared.
 Sim16 should only be executed to clear U2 trouble if it occurred without performing any repair or
maintenance as such.
As previously mentioned, execution of Sim16 won’t clear artificially-generated U2 errors. Instead, it may
actually damage the EEPROM, HDD storage and backup data.

6. Power OFF the MFP device (Primary power switch) and set DIPSW1 to OFF.

7. Power ON the MFP Device

8. Clear the FAX/SCANNER image memory by executing SIM66-10:-

This memory must be cleared for all models equipped with FAX/I-FAX and Network Scanner in order to
keep compliance between the HDD data and the image related memory.

9. Install the E-Manual Data onto the HDD using SIM49-03.

10. Install Watermark data onto the HDD using SIM49-05:-

U2-60 trouble will be displayed when no Watermark data is present . After installing the
Watermark data, reboot the MFP and cancel U2-60 trouble by executing SIM16.

11. Import the storage data backed up in Step 1.

 Use SIM56-02 or device cloning/storage backup function to import the Address book, Image
Send registration data and User authentication data etc.
 Import the Document Filing data, User font and macro data - (The JOB LOG data can be backed
up but cannot be imported).

Caution:

• When replacing the HDD for the mirroring kit, ensure to use a new HDD unit.
• If an HDD that has been previously used for a mirroring kit is used to replace a HDD, the
operations and the data cannot be assured and E7-A5 trouble may occur.
• If an HDD that has been previously used for a mirroring kit is installed, the original data may be
erased.
• When removing the HDD after installing the mirroring kit, be sure to remove both HDD's
together.
• If only one HDD is removed and then reinstalled, the data of both HDD's may
not be identical, causing an error.
• When removing the HDD for maintenance reasons only, disconnect the HDD SATA connector of
the MFP PWB first, and then perform the required maintenance. With this procedure, both
HDD's are disconnected from the machine.

Replacement Procedure:

When replacing the SD card, be sure to use the specified SD card supplied as a service part only.
The firmware required for booting the MFP device must be included on the SD card that is used in
this machine - Commercially available SD cards do not have this firmware data.

1. Use SIM56-02 to backup the SD card data to a USB memory device.

2. If the operation panel has HOME screen has been customised, backup the SD card data by using
the Device Clone function.
3. When there is FAX/Internet Fax data received, use SIM66-62 to back up the image data to the USB
memory (PDF file type), and then provide the PDF data to the user. (The data cannot be restored to
the machine.)
4. Replace the SD card with a new one.
5. Upgrade the firmware to the latest version.
6. Use SIM66-10 to clear the image send memory. (This is in order to obtain consistency between
the HDD data and the image related memory.)
7. Use SIM56-02 to restore the data backed up in step 1.
8. Restore the data backed up in step 2 by using Device Clone function.

Notes:
 If U2-40 or E7-07 trouble occurs and the error cannot be cancelled using SIM16, this may
indicate an issue or failure of the SD Card – replace the SD Card by following the procedure
detailed above.

Caution:
Data backed up using SIM56-02 must not be installed to another machine otherwise, the adjustment
data will be overwritten and trouble may be generated.
