Personal Statement

Liam Harman
(If I choose university)

I love films. When I was young I used to watch a film every night before I went to
sleep (maybe for a bit too long). I didn’t pick out a specific film I wanted to watch.
I used to pick a number between 1 and 10 and lay out 10 DvD’s on the floor and
whichever film I landed on depending on the number I picked, I would watch it.
Not once did I ever not watch the entire film. It would not matter what the genre
was I would love it. My Mum used to say I didn’t socialize enough but that wasn’t
a problem because I just wanted to watch films. When I got older I started to
analyze films in detail. This would be for films I had watched in the past or for
films I was watching in the present. I would analyze the storyline the characters
and the personalities. This helped m predict the film and understand hidden
meanings embedded into the storyline. I still love films too this day and I watch
films by myself and with family and friends. My favorite childhood film was
Madagascar and I still watch it too this day.

At school, I chose media studies as an option as I was so interested in how films

and magazines were made and I would also learn how to create a film myself. I
managed to get a 7 in my exam and coursework combined and I was so thrilled
because I put the effort in and It was my favorite subject at school. I now study
creative media productions at Henley college. This was the best decision I have
ever made studying this course because its everything I love learning about. The
structure of work suits my learning technique. By doing this course I have decided
I would like to be a film director when I’m older. I am constantly generating ideas
for films and I would love to make them come to life. By doing this course I am
also going to start YouTube filming football freestyle which is one of my hobbies.
I want to study cameras and editing and creating productions overall. I would love
to be part of the media/ film industry when I’m older as I feel like I would be able
to offer creative ideas for productions and I would be willing to put the effort in to
earn my place. Football freestyle and cinematography are my main two hobbies as
well as playing football for a team. I played in the junior premier league when I was
15 and I have been playing football since I was 4 years old. I feel like these hobbies
express my creative persona which would contribute to the film industry.
