Polluted Economy of PAKISTAN

‘’Environment is no one’s property to destroy; it’s everyone’s responsibility to protect’’. Mohith Agadi

Today, when world has become a global village, environmental issues (air pollution, water pollution,
plastic pollution, deforestation, desertification, land degradation, climate change, global warming etc.)
can demolish the economy of any country whether it is the economy of USA or Pakistan. Developed
countries have set very strict environmental standards and are reluctant to import goods specially food
from countries facing environmental issues like Pakistan. If we will not export the food material not only
food but there are lot of products which are exported to many countries, then our economy will go to
decline curve.

Pakistan is already facing many problems/crisis like energy, law and order, political instability, water
crisis and many other problems. Along with these problems Pakistani people and our economy is facing
many environmental issues like environmental degradation, air and water pollution, ozone layer
depletion, plastic pollution(major issue now a days) deforestation, desertification: va nishing the
biodiversity and destruction of habitats of wild animals, and land degradation have resulted in climate
change, global warming, ecological imbalance and worsening our economy.

Experts estimate that environmental degradation may cost Pakistan’s economy over RS: 365 billion
every year of which inadequate water supply, sanitization and hygiene accounts for RS: 112 billion,
agriculture soil degradation accounts for RS: 70 billion, indoor pollution RS: 67 billion, urban air
pollution RS: 65 billion, lead exposure RS: 45 billion and land degradation and deforestation RS: 6
billion. Some other environmental experts believe that the environmental degradation cost must have
increased beyond RS: 450 billion.

There are many other environmental problems which also take part in drowning the economy of my
beloved country Pakistan. In Pakistan there are many beautiful places which attract the tourists like
places in Northern areas. Foreign tourists come to Pakistan and visit these places and Pakistan is
generation revenue through it, but the matter is that some industries and firms also polluted these
areas and these places are losing their beauty. Environmental pollution like deforestation, changing the
land into construction sites and dumping the waste of industries are making these place s unfavorable
for tourists. That’s put the burden on the economy, because instead of generating revenue govt. has to
spend money to clean up that tourism places.

We should start ‘’War Against Pollution’’ to save not the economy of Pakistan but the whole n ation as
well, otherwise our future generation will not forgive us.

‘’We learned that economic growth and environmental protection can and should go hand in
hand’’ Christopher Dodd
