ASSIGNMENT IN EP 1

“7 Types of Nonverbal Communication Examples”

1. Kinesics or body movement

My brother is such a couch potato and most of the time, busy with his video games.
Whenever I remind him to do his chores or when I ask him favors to do something for me, he
scratches his head. This nonverbal communication indicates that he is hesitant yet forced to do it
anyway as if he doesn’t have any choice.
2. Vocalics or Paralanguage

One time when we were in senior high, we were told to study for a long exam. However,
one of our classmate was absent when it was announced and no one was able to relay that
message to her. When the day of the exam came, she went to school fully unaware about it.
Before the exam started, we made last-minute reviews. With all confusion, she asked what and
why we were studying and when she knew, it made her ask “HA??!!” aloud which expressed her
shock in hearing the matter.
3. Personal appearance
At our acquaintance party when we were in grade 7, there was this chic and stylish girl
that was very caught people’s attention as she tried to flaunt her neon outfit. From the way she
dresses, I can imply that she is a woman who’s not looking to be a wallflower and has a high
level of self-confidence.

4. Physical environment
In the movie, “What’s wrong with Secretary Kim?” this nonverbal communication can be
observed at the party that secretary Kim attended where she was surrounded with seemingly
interested gentlemen. As a signal to tell them to not assume any chance, she tucked her hair
behind her hear to show the gentlemen the ring on her finger that signifies that she’s not
available to entertain suitors.

5. Proxemics or personal space

I have my close friends and I feel a high level of comfort whenever I am around them.
Seldom, when we talk about interesting things while walking or even just sitting down, I tend to
cling in their arms or rest my chin or head in their shoulders.
6. Haptics or touch
When we were kids, my best friend and I have crushes in school. Whenever her crush pass by
us, I tease her by calling her crush’s name in a joking manner and then she feels embarrassed
about it so she pinches my arm to tell me to stop.

7. Chronemics or time

Everytime I spend moments with my families and friends during simple gatherings, it feels
very special and it makes me want to stay longer around them because I enjoy telling stories to them
as well as hearing theirs, laughing, and even for the fact of just having their presence around me.
