Question:

Explain how water resources influence weather and climate in a given geographical area.
According to Alon A. (2008). Climate refer to the annual pattern of atmospheric condition in a
place. Climate classification are primarily based on the seasonal variations in temperature and
the annual rainfall amount and seasonity. The major factor that influence climate are latitude,
continentality, airmasses and surface physiography, because the earth move around the sun on a
axis, the northern hermisphere is closest in the sun in June and furthest sun in December.

According to Boehm.G. (1995). Climate is the term for weather pattern that an area typically
experiences during a long time. Weather and climate are influenced by direct amount of sun light
a place receives they are also affected by ocean currents, wind and temperature of the earth
surface, the relationship between the earth and the sun especially affect climate around the world.
The sun provide the earth with heat and light, different parts of the earth however, receive
different amounts of sunlight at different time.

Water resources: are the sources of water that are useful or potential useful to humans and other
living organisms. It is important because it is used for industrial activities, household, and in
environmental issues. In which 97% of water on the earth is salt water and 3% of water is fresh
water. Examples of water resources are oceans, rivers, lakes rain water and Wells.

Types of water resources:

Firstly, salt water resources; As mentioned salt water is abundant in the surface of the planet.
However salt water is currently not particularly useful when it comes to portable water supplies.
Desalination plants, while they do exist are scary, the process extremely expensive. That said,
there are salt water resources from which human benefits, aside from beautiful ocean view. Salt
water fish and a staple in much of the world diet.

Secondly, Ground water; is the most plentiful of all fresh water resources. As water percolate
into the ground through layersbof soil, clay and Rock Some of it adhere to the top most layers to
provide water to plant.

Weather is the day to day atmospheric condition that are recorded over a short period of time. It
can be hour to hour, or day to day. Climate is an atmospheric condition that are recorded over a
long period of time usually 30 years. It can be taken as standar. Climate and weather have
various elements such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and precipitation.
Water bodies in a certain area has mechanism that determine the weather and climate of a given
geographical area, as follows:-

Firstly, The rate of evaporation in the water bodies. In the area with high evaporation which lead
to formation of condensation or clouds know as comunilombus clouds as the result of high
rainfall, which influence wet climate responsible for growth of vegetation throughout the year. In
this area there is denser forest. But in area with low amount of water resources tend to have low
rate of evaporation which affect the formation of clouds (comunilombus clouds), hence the
formation of low rainfall which influence dry climate as the result of scattered vegetation.

Secondly, Nature of the ocean currents. Here we consider the amount of temperature. There is
warm and cold ocean currents. Warm ocean current have high temperature which influence high
rate of evaporation which lead to formation of clouds (comunilombus clouds), as the result of
high rainfall which influence wet climate responsible for growth of vegetation throughout the
year especially denser forest like Amazon forest. But in cold ocean current there is low
temperature which affect high rate of evaporation to take place, hence the formation of low
amount of rainfall which influence dry, climate hence affect the growth of vegetation like
scattered vegetation. Example Nambi desert which is due to cold ocean current from Atlantic
ocean.

Thirdly, Humidity. In are with high amount of water resources like oceans allow high rate of
evaporation to take place which lead to cloud formation as the result of high rainfall through out
the year. High rainfall influence wet climate as the result of high humidity which influence the
growth of vegetation which is denser forest like Congo . But in area with low amount of water
resources there is low rate of evaporation which affects cloud formation, hence low rainfall
which influence dry climate throughout the year as the result of desert and scattered vegetation.

Therefore, not only water bodies which can influence weather and climate of a given area, but
there are other process which influence it. Include a wind where colder wind blows towards the
warmer area and cause the high amount of temperature which lead to formation of high rainfall
which influence wet climate leading to growth of vegetation like denser forest. Through this
process cause in dry areas or area with few water resources to get rainfall where it can low or
high rainfall.
