Answer the following questions and do the tasks below. Make sure to use and cite the Code of
Ethics for Professional Teachers in your answers.

1. Teacher B has a brother candidate for the mayoralty race in their hometown. The brother’s
opponent has very good chance of winning and so teacher B starts secretly campaigning for his
brother. Is this professional? Explain.
-For me, this situation is not showing professionalism because according to Article 2, section 5 of the
Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers states that, a teacher shall not engage in the promotion of any
political, religious, or other partisan interest, and shall not. directly or indirectly, solicit, require, collect,
or receive any money or service or other valuable material from any person or entity for such purposes.
Even if teacher B is secretly campaigning for his brother, still he/she violated the code of ethics. Engage
by definition is to participate or become involved in or take part in. When we say take part, it may not be
the whole thing, it may be small or big ways, directly or indirectly or even secretly. It is like you are
saying that stealing is not a sin if no one knows, the same as with violating the code of ethics through
“secretly” campaigning.

2. Read the definition of teachers in the Education Act of 1982. Is this definition of teachers the
same with that of the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers? If not, any difference?

-Education Act of 1982 is different from the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers, in such a way that
the former talks about more on the educational system on how to run a school whether private or public
school. It deeply talks about the policies that should be followed by anyone who are basically involved in
the educational system that they belong. For the definition of teachers, the Education Act of 1982, focuses
more on the obligations of teachers in school. On the other hand, the latter focuses more on the ethical
standards that the teacher should follow. Basically, this deals more on how the teacher should behave
accordingly to make no stain on the name of every teacher.

3. Every school has a School Governing Council. What is this Council about? How different is this
from the Parents and Teachers Association?

-According to DepEd Order # 49 series of 2011, the Supreme Student Government (SSG) is the
foremost co-curricular student organization authorized to operate and implement pertinent programs,
projects and activities in schools nationwide. It lays the groundwork for good governance, volunteerism,
unity and cooperation by providing the students various venues where they can improve their leadership
knowledge, skills and attitudes. It trains students to become better members of society in accordance with
the ideals and principles of participatory democracy and good citizenship. More importantly, it helps the
Department of Education (DepEd) achieve its thrusts as indicated in the Education for All (EFA) Goals,
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Basic Education Social Reform Agenda (BESRA).
Supreme Student Government is different from the Parents and Teachers Association in such a way that
SSG focuses more on the training of students to become better members of society in accordance with the
ideals and principles of participatory democracy and good citizenship while PTA focuses on serving as
support group and as a significant partner of the school whose relationship shall be defined by
cooperative and open dialogue to promote the welfare of the students.

5. Does the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers prohibit a teacher and student to fall in love
with each other? Explain.
-Yes, the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers prohibit a teacher and student to fall in love with each
other because according to the preamble of the code of ethics for professional teachers it states that,
teachers should possess dignity and reputation with high moral values as well as technical and
professional competence in the practice of their noble profession, they strictly adhere to. observe, and
practice this set of ethical and moral principles, standards, and values, therefore in order to avoid gossip
and bad feedback a teacher should practice being noble to her profession. However, if feelings cannot be
stop towards each other, according to Article 8, section 7, in a situation where mutual attraction and
subsequent love develop between teacher and learner, the teacher shall exercise utmost professional
discretion to avoid scandal, gossip and preferential treatment of the learner. Therefore, both should
practice the code of secrecy in order to preserve one’s dignity and avoid negative feedbacks.

6. View “Every Kid Needs a Champion” by Rita Pierson, TED Talks Education
(https://www.ted.com/talks/rita_pierson_every_kid_needs_a_champion). Based on the video,
share how a teacher should relate to learners to make a difference.

-Teachers are great actors in the life of every student. For the student who struggles in school, having a
good relationship with their teachers is critical to their success. Establishing a positive relationship with
the teacher helps a student feel more comfortable to learn inside the classroom. The teacher always had a
power to say a lot of positive thoughts to uplift their student’s emotion and self-confidence. It is better to
create a positive connection between the teacher and the learner because it is easy to empower a student
to believe that they can if and only if the teacher is genuine with their relationship towards their student.
Ms. Rita Pierson said that, “kids don't learn from people they don't like”, a teacher should build deep
connections with students in order to relate on students’ need. In that way, you don’t need to be a perfect person
to be a perfect teacher it takes passion and determination to catch students’ attention. Learners are more often to
go to school, because they know they have somebody that will always believe in them whatever it takes. Learners
in todays’ generation are the hope of the society, as an educator, we must not ruin it by living with the pride that
teachers won’t relate to students. Teachers need students and vice versa.

7. Compose a rap or a song on how professional teachers should relate to one another to form a
genuine teaching community. Make sure the song is based on Article. You can opt to use a
popular song for the tune and change only the lyrics. Aside from submitting the lyrics here,
upload your rap/song in Facebook and use the hashtag #TheTeacherAndTheTeachingCommunity.

And we need you…ohhh

And you know it’s true
And we need you…ohhh
You really do

No matter what you do…

All you think about is us
You teach us confidence
and respect differences

No matter what you do…

All you think about is us
You teach us confidence
and respect differences

Rap:
We met you from the class
Thought you were strict and harsh
We didn’t know you did this
to make a better us

And ohhh-ohhhh-ohhhh
More thing about you-ohhh
You are so friendly too…
Nothing can say about you—ohh
You show us dignity and responsibility

Ohhh you’re our inspiration and motivation

And all your teachings are always on our minds.
You are good provider, the best teacher
You serve with purpose and determination

You must be appreciated, always respected

And in the battles, fight fight all the time
Cause you’re our inspiration and motivation
And all your teachings are always on our minds.

8. Research on the steps of a professional teacher should take if she decides to raise his grievances
against his superior. What are your findings and your realizations?

the conversation cannot be interrupted or overheard.

state his/her position clearly and accurately based on the merits of the grievance. He/ She need not
immediately give a definite decision, but the decision shall be rendered within three (3) days from the

2. Appeal to the Higher Supervisor.

conduct an investigation and hearing within ten (10) working days from receipt of the grievance and
render a decision within five (5) working days after the investigation. Provided, however, that where the

Office of the Secretary, through the Undersecretary for Legal Affairs.

 Appeal to the Office of the Secretary

working days after the grievance. Provided, however, that where the object of the grievance is the
Secretary, the aggrieved party may bring his/her grievance directly to the Civil Service Commission
Regional Office.

 Appeal to the Civil Service Commission Regional Office.

If the aggrieved party is not satisfied with the decision of top management, he or she may appeal or
elevate his or her grievance to the Civil Service Commission Regional Office concerned within fifteen
(15) working days from the receipt of such decision. The aggrieved party shall submit a Certification on
the Final Action on the Grievance (CFAG) together with the appeal. The Civil Service Commission
Regional Office shall rule on the appeal in accordance with existing civil service law, rules and
regulations.

One of my findings while reading the grievance procedure is that grievance process is designed to
give employees and employers a fair and objective system to raise and review serious issues and
complaints without bias. It is important that any concerns will be taken seriously and handled fairly will
help to improve staff’s morale and maintain levels of productivity. Therefore, anyone in the profession
can address grievance as long as they have provided a written or oral complaints against their superior.
Lastly, I realized that even if your position is not that higher than your superior, you always have the right
to raise complaints to ease your feelings.

9. Create an infographic to convince your online friends that teaching is the noblest profession and
being so deserves the best preparation and the best candidates. The infographic may contain
inspirational quotes, information, surveys about the teaching profession. You may use Canva in
making your infographic. Upload your output to Facebook, write a powerful caption and use the
hashtag, #TheTeacherAndTheProfession.
10. There are more women than men in the teaching profession. Does this indicate that less men are
able to face the challenge of the teaching profession? Discuss your answer.

-We humans have different abilities and to what we are capable of, we are born in this world with such
uniqueness. We are all familiar to the quick expression of the famous scientist, Albert Einstein, about
abilities and capabilities. If we judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing
that it is stupid. Same as true with the teaching profession, it doesn’t mean that there are more women
than men in teaching profession, it doesn’t indicate that less men are able to face the challenge, maybe
some of men were not in the teaching profession because they also have different callings that they need
to fulfill in their life. Our life is planned and orchestrated by God, if God put more women in the teaching
profession we can’t do something on it because everything has a purpose and it all happened for a reason.
Stop dealing with gender stereotyping and we must be happy for it is our greatest goal in life. Eudamonia.
