design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and preparation for shipment of general purpose
mechanical-drive steam turbines and their accessories.
1.1.2 Deviations from this standard must be approved in writing by the Buyer prior to
implementation.
1.1.3 Details not included in the Buyer’s documents shall be the responsibility of the Supplier.
1.1.4 Compliance by the Supplier with the requirements of this specification does not relieve the
Supplier of his responsibility to supply equipment fully suitable for all specified conditions.
1.1.5 Supplier shall be responsible to insure that all technical and data requirements of this
specification are followed by all his subcontractors
1.2 (New) Conflicting Requirements
1.2.1 In case of conflict among documents covering this scope of work, the order of precedence of
documents to resolve conflicts shall be, in descending order:
1.2.1.1 Special instructions in the inquiry or purchase order
1.2.1.2 Requisitions and data sheets by the Buyer
1.2.1.3 This specification, MQ-SP-M-4024, “API 611 5th Ed., General Purpose Steam

Supplier’s proposal. Metric flanges are not acceptable.
6 BASIC DESIGN
6.1 General
6.1.4.b (Add) Steam turbines shall be capable of developing 115% of rated power at
minimum steam conditions, minimum temperature and pressure, and maximum back
pressure at the turbine coupling. However, turbine efficiency shall be optimized for

maximum pressure drop, a maximum water inlet temperature of 32°C (90°F), an 11°C (20°F)
temperature rise and 0.003 fouling factor on the water side. In addition, the Supplier shall be
responsible to design the cooling system so that it will perform satisfactorily under the actual
operating conditions specified on the applicable turbine data sheets included in the inquiry or
purchase order. Provisions shall be made for complete drainage. Valved drains are required at
low points in the cooling water system.
