Turn off the engine according to Technical Instruction No. 1100-0105 and secure against
unauthorized restart.

1. Mixture/water heat exchanger:

1.1 Mixture-sided differential-pressure measurement:

Connect pressure gauge to measuring points.
Measure the differential pressure at full load.

Enter the readings in table Data Capture Mixture/Water Heat Exchanger

(E 0103 a).

If the differential pressure exceeds the value measured at commissioning by ≥ 20 mbar (200 mm water
column), the heat exchanger should be cleaned on the mixture side.

If two mixture coolers are installed, you must also measure both differential pressures.

1.2 Clean on mixture side:

Turn off the engine according to Technical Instruction No. 1100-0105 and secure against
unauthorized restart.

Remove cooler.
Wash out the dry cooler in a solvent, e.g., "P3 - cold type cleansing agent," and rinse thoroughly with a
powerful stream of water.
Only solvents which affect neither brass nor tin may be used.
At the upstream side the sealings of the mixture cooler (mixture cooler – connecting cover or blind cover
respectively) should be renewed.

2. Flame traps in the mixture cooler:

2.1 To measure differential pressure on the mixture side:

Connect a pressure gauge to the measuring points.
Carry out the differential-pressure measurement while the system is at full load.

Measured values in the Flame trap data table for the mixture cooler (E 0103 g)

If the differential pressure exceeds the value measured on initial commissioning by ≥ 15 mbar (150 mm
water column), the flame traps must be cleaned or replaced.

If two mixture coolers are installed, you must also measure both differential pressures.

2.2 Replacement:

Turn off the engine according to Technical Instruction No. 1100-0105 and secure against
unauthorized restart.

Remove flame traps and mounting plates from the engine and mixture cooler.
Carry out a visual inspection of the flame traps. If any damage is evident (fusion, corrosion, etc.), replace
the flame trap.

Flame arresters fused together by corrosion.

2.3 Cleaning:

Turn off the engine according to Technical Instruction No. 1100-0105 and secure against
unauthorized restart.

If no damage is apparent, but only dirt, proceed as follows:

Remove flame traps and mounting plates from the engine and mixture cooler.
Immerse dry flame traps in a solution, e.g. "P3 - cold cleansing agent" (minimum 10 hours) and then rinse
thoroughly with a powerful water jet. Finally, use compressed air to blow off the flame traps and dry them.

3. Flame traps in the bypass line:

3.1 Assessment:

If in the course of the differential pressure measurement on the flame traps in the mixture cooler it is
found that they have to be replaced, the flame traps in the bypass line must also be assessed and if
necessary replaced or cleaned.

3.2 Replacement:

Turn off the engine according to Technical Instruction No. 1100-0105 and secure against
unauthorized restart.

Remove flame traps from bypass line.

Carry out a visual inspection of the flame traps. If any damage is evident (fusion, corrosion, etc.), replace
the flame trap.

3.3 Cleaning:

Turn off the engine according to Technical Instruction No. 1100-0105 and secure against
unauthorized restart.

If no damage is apparent, but only dirt, proceed as follows:

Remove flame traps.
Immerse dry flame traps in a solution, e.g. "P3 - cold cleansing agent" (minimum 10 hours) and then rinse
thoroughly with a powerful water jet. Finally, use compressed air to blow off the flame traps and dry them.

4. Precombustion chamber differential pressure:

The precombustion chamber differential pressure can be calculated by comparing the gas pressure in the
precombustion chamber gas pipe (to be read off the pressure gauge behind the precombustion chamber
gas-pressure controller) and the supercharging pressure (to be read off the engine-management display).

5. Crankcase negative pressure:

Connect a pressure gauge to the oil level dip stick line.

Enter the measured values in the Crankcase negative pressure (E 0103 e) table.

When an underpressure of 1 mbar is reached, the filter cartridges of the oil mist lubricators should be
replaced.
As soon as a positive pressure is present (>0 mbar), replace the filters .
