Submit this portfolio with your Assessment.

Task 3 - Case Studies

Case Study 1:
A marketing officer (Lincoln) at SweetAZ Promotions has just been given a list of a range of different networking
groups that operate in the area around their offices. The networking list was a result of a conversation he’d had with the
Team Leader about supporting his clients better by finding more options for them to access that were perhaps a little
less “mainstream” networking opportunities. And in particular, Lincoln had noticed that quite a few of them were rather
creative in their own way so he wanted to try and find different things that his clients could use to support their goals in
other directions like increased web traffic or professional relationships.

He had thought that quite a few of his clients would benefit from the ability to access, learn from, or even just get to
know a few of the more ‘arty’ type of people that were out and about in the local suburbs. The lists that he’d been given
were local and community groups that had an art focus.

Lincoln decided that because he’d be recommending some of these groups he probably better check them out first. But
he was going to have to be a bit strategic about it otherwise he’d never get any of his other work done.

3.1 How is Lincoln going to identify and prioritise his professional and individual networking needs and establish
the new networks that will eventually meet client needs?

Satisfactory Not Yet Satisfactory

3.2 List the ways in which Lincoln can research and investigate the networking opportunities. Who in the
organisation could he possibly consult with about this? Where else could he find more information?

Satisfactory Not Yet Satisfactory

3.3 What are some of the ways in which Lincoln and the other networkers can ensure that the networking
strategies are appropriate?

Satisfactory Not Yet Satisfactory

3.4 How can Lincoln disseminate the information about the network and the opportunity for the clients to others in
the organisation? How can they get this information further out into the business community where it might
benefit others?

Case Study 2:
In having to investigate and research the network group for his ‘arty’ clients Lincoln has become quite inspired about
finding alternative ways to support his clients achieve their goals through unconventional methods. He’d really like to
start up a networking group to explore this and to reach out to the business community so that they can put some
different sorts of things into place for a range of clients.

Lincoln doesn’t believe that it should be exclusive just to their organisation and wants to open it up to the community so
that they can get the advantage of the support and knowledge of people like local artists, web designers and copy and
content writers.

Lincoln’s Team Leader gives him the go-ahead to create the new networking group with one stipulation – He has to
make sure that it operates in accordance with the organisation’s philosophy and goals.

3.5 How can Lincoln minimise the possibility of inappropriate practices occurring while the group is together
networking?

Satisfactory Not Yet Satisfactory

3.6 What process may have to be in place if participants start arguing over a difference of opinion?

Satisfactory Not Yet Satisfactory

3.7 How can Lincoln evaluate the effectiveness of the network? What would be the purpose of collecting that
information?

Satisfactory Not Yet Satisfactory

3.8 When evaluating the effectiveness of the network why would you consider issues related to organisational
expectations, client needs or organisation philosophies?

Satisfactory Not Yet Satisfactory

This is the end of the assessment.
