May 27, 2020 ‘The Honorable Ron DeSantis, Governor State of Florida The Capitol 400 South Monroe Street Tallahassee, FL 32399-0001 Dear Governor DeSantis, (On behalf of the Gulf County Board of County Commissioners, { am writing to respectfully request the approval and allocation of the CARES Act funding as passed by Congress on March 27, 2020, for state and local government stabilization, AC this time, Gulf County and many other Florida counties have not received CARES Act funds despite hhaving tremendous needs for the well-being of our residents. As of today, only twelve counties in Florida with populations of over 500,000 have received direct funding pursuant to the provisions of the CARES Act. These twelve Florida counties have received $2,472,413,692 of the funds that were allotted for Florida local governments. The remaining 55 counties, including Gulf County, have not been provided an allocation by the state o receive stabilization funds that were authorized by Congress for local government use. As provided in the CARES Act and pursuant to the U. S. Treasury Guidelines, there remains a balance of $1,275,285,790 that may be allocated for Florida local governments that did not receive direct funding, (On May 1, 2020, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) and the Florida League of Cities (FLC) sent a joint etter requesting that the $1.275 billion in remaining local government funds be earmarked to provide necessary resources to the local governments that were not direct beneficiaries of CARES Act dollars. The Small County Coalition has also written to request the expedited distribution ofthe funds as recommended by the Florida League of Cities and the Florida Association of Counties. Gulf County now joins the Florida Association of Counties, the Florida League of Cities and the Florida Small County Coalition in respectfully requesting that you authorize the allotment of the remaining S1.275 billion to the counties and local governments that have not received any direct funding under the CARES Act. This allotment would provide the desperately needed resources for Gulf County to address the important state interests of the health, safety and welfare ofits citizens. (On behalf of the entire Gulf County Board of County Commissioners, I want to express our sincere appreciation for your leadership of this state and for the efforts of your agencies during this unprecedented time of emergency.
