‘The Honorable Ron DeSantis, Governor
State of Florida
The Capitol
400 South Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0001
Dear Governor DeSantis,
(On behalf of the Gulf County Board of County Commissioners, { am writing to respectfully request the approval and
allocation of the CARES Act funding as passed by Congress on March 27, 2020, for state and local government
stabilization, AC this time, Gulf County and many other Florida counties have not received CARES Act funds despite
hhaving tremendous needs for the well-being of our residents.
As of today, only twelve counties in Florida with populations of over 500,000 have received direct funding pursuant
to the provisions of the CARES Act. These twelve Florida counties have received $2,472,413,692 of the funds that
were allotted for Florida local governments. The remaining 55 counties, including Gulf County, have not been
provided an allocation by the state o receive stabilization funds that were authorized by Congress for local government
use. As provided in the CARES Act and pursuant to the U. S. Treasury Guidelines, there remains a balance of
$1,275,285,790 that may be allocated for Florida local governments that did not receive direct funding,
(On May 1, 2020, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) and the Florida League of Cities (FLC) sent a joint etter
requesting that the $1.275 billion in remaining local government funds be earmarked to provide necessary resources
to the local governments that were not direct beneficiaries of CARES Act dollars. The Small County Coalition has
also written to request the expedited distribution ofthe funds as recommended by the Florida League of Cities and the
Florida Association of Counties. Gulf County now joins the Florida Association of Counties, the Florida League of
Cities and the Florida Small County Coalition in respectfully requesting that you authorize the allotment of the
remaining S1.275 billion to the counties and local governments that have not received any direct funding under the
CARES Act. This allotment would provide the desperately needed resources for Gulf County to address the important
state interests of the health, safety and welfare ofits citizens.
(On behalf of the entire Gulf County Board of County Commissioners, I want to express our sincere appreciation for
your leadership of this state and for the efforts of your agencies during this unprecedented time of emergency. Thank
‘you forthe flexibility that you have given to the county to deal locally with the issues that have impacted our citizens
land our business communities the most.
‘Thank you for your consideration of this request for the distribution of the CARES Act funds.
With Gratitude,
