FIELD OF APPLICATION
MasterSuna SBS 8000 is a newly developed liquid
concrete additive which allows the production of concretes
with difficult sand types with layered silicate content
respectively clayey components. The following problems
can be caused by clayey components in fresh concrete:
1. insufficient increase of workability of concrete by
plasticisers/superplasticizers due to adsorption of
polymers between layered silicate surfaces;
2. increases in consistency can only be achieved by means
of an extremely high plasticisers/superplasticizers dosing
rates;
3. high plasticisers/superplasticizers dosages lead to high
concrete viscosity and unfavourable processing
characteristics of the concrete;
4. stronger loss of consistency;
5. compliance with the required w/c values is critical or not
possible.
In such challenging situations, MasterSuna SBS 8000
allows the use of these difficult sand grades that exist in
some regions. The product is used as a second
component, in addition to a plasticiser/superplasticizer.
Particular challenges are posed by sand sources with
varying amounts of clay, since a robust setting of uniform
consistencies and fresh concrete characteristics is almost
impossible. MasterSuna SBS 8000 makes it possible to
control or consolidate such conditions selectively.
MasterSuna SBS 8000 is preferably used for:
- Ready mix concretes in consistency class F3 or higher
- Concretes with longer workability
- High performance concretes like concretes with
higher compressive strength classes etc.
- Concretes with low water/cement values
- Pumped concretes
- Exposed concrete
TESTS / CERTIFICATES
- plasticiser according to DIN EN 934-2:T2;
- complies with the requirements of DIN 1045-2;
- for use in concrete with alkali-sensitive aggregates
according to the Alkali Guideline 7.1.3 (2) (alkali
content ≤ 8.5 M%).

EFFECT
The Sand Blocker System is based on MasterSuna SBS
technology. Due to its unique mechanism of action,
MasterSuna SBS 8000 has a very strong affinity for fine-
grained clayey components, for example from sand or
rock flour. Due to the specific mode of action, adsorptive
layered silicate components are blocked and neutralised.
So plasticisers/superplasticizers can keep their actual
dispersing power at conventional dosage amounts. At the
same time, the consistency and workability of the
concrete are improved. The combined use with
plasticisers/superplasticizers neutralises the negative or
harmful effect of layered silicates. This unique technology
allows to control the water requirements, plasticiser
dosage, workability and consistency of the concrete in a
robust way.
Sand characteristics and the content of clayey particles
can be estimated, for example, by the methylene blue
value (EN 933-9). The dosing of MasterSuna SBS 8000
in the first step can be deduced from the values of this
methylene blue value.
