Final Project:

Poetry Booklet and Presentation

10th Grade English
DUE: MM.DD.YY
In the past couple weeks, we have learned so much
about poetry: its use of language, its structure, and
its style. We have reviewed many different poems
from many different poets in nine styles: haiku, limerick, acrostic, sonnet, ode, villanelle, free
verse, epic poetry, and blank verse. Now, it is time for you to become a poet yourself! In this
project, you will be creating a poetry book and presenting one of your poems to the class.

Directions
Booklet: For this assignment, you will be writing a collection of 7 poems in the forms we have
discussed in class. These poems will be printed out into a small booklet and bound with a colored
cover which you may decorate tastefully. Feel free to do more poems!!
A) You must write at least 2 poems from each group (as listed below). All poems must have a
title and follow the appropriate structure.
Group One limerick acrostic haiku
Group Two ode villanelle sonnet
epic poem (15 lines, blank verse (15 lines free verse (15 lines at
Group Three
at least 50 words) at least 50 words) least 50 words)

B) For one of the poems from Group Two, a scanned copy of the poem must be provided
separately from the booklet. This can be done on notebook paper and must be legible.
C) Within your poems, you must use 8 poetic devices of your choice (ex: simile, metaphor,
personification, alliteration, assonance, hyperbole, etc.) Rhyme does not count towards this
total. One device can only count for one point, I encourage you to use more!
Presentation: For your presentation, you must choose a poem from Group Two or
Group Three and present it to the class either orally, through a video, or another creative
method! Make sure to clear it with me if you decide another method.
