NEW HAITI AID MAP SHOWS PROGRESS OF RECOVERY AND GAPS AT

ONE YEAR MARK
Washington, D.C. (January 11, 2011)— InterAction, the largest alliance of U.S.-based
international NGOs working abroad, has partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce‘s
Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) with sponsorship by FedEx to develop a new online
Haiti mapping project – http://haitiaidmap.org – which illustrates where NGOs are working in
Haiti, the progress of recovery and remaining service delivery gaps.

Haiti Aid Map provides simple, fast and accurate information and has become a valuable
coordination tool for NGOs working in Haiti, helping them do a better job of allocating resources
and not duplicating services. Current and potential donors, along with the public, are also able to
track progress and determine where additional assistance is needed.

Samuel A. Worthington, InterAction‘s President and CEO, says, ―Not only does this technology
help to dramatically improve the transparency of recovery and reconstruction in Haiti, but it also
highlights gaps in services, and facilitates coordination and partnerships among various actors
working in Haiti.‖

The data in the map can be customized, making searches more targeted. For example, one map
features water, sanitation and hygiene projects overlaid with data on the cholera outbreak. The
site can be browsed by location, sector, organization or project, and also features maps
highlighting NGOs‘ work in key areas, such as health, shelter, and education.

―FedEx sees Haiti Aid Map as a tool to facilitate communications between the NGOs
represented on the map and the business community. Since FedEx already has very strong
relationships with several global NGOs in the disaster response and recovery space, it is our
hope that this tool will be especially helpful for small-to-medium sized businesses that have
resources and want to see where they may best apply them,‖ according to Shane O‘Connor,
Program Advisor, FedEx Global Citizenship, FedEx.

―As Save the Children seeks to work in partnership with other NGOs, we would refer to the Haiti
map to understand which NGOs work in each specific geographical area and their areas of
expertise. Additionally, as an agency that has had a long-term presence in Haiti, we‘re often
asked to refer other organizations operating in Haiti. This tool will allow us to respond to such
requests as it provides so much relevant information on many of the active organizations in Haiti
all in one place. In this regard, it offers ‗one-stop shopping,‘‖ said Nathalie Augustin, Director,
Haiti Stakeholder Liaison, Save the Children.
