2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time
Pastor’s Corner ~
The WORD OF GOD portrays Jesus as the “Lamb of
God who takes away the sins of the world”. This came
from the mouth of John the Baptist, referring to Jesus,
to resonate the Old Testament offering of spotless lamb
by the Jewish people on the night of the passing-over of
the angel of death in the Exodus event. The blood of the
lamb was sprinkled on the doorposts of the Jewish
people, and they were spared by the angel of death
(Exodus 12 & 13). Jesus is the spotless Lamb of the
New Covenant whose blood was shed to redeem us
from eternal death. Just as Moses led the Israelites out
of Egypt, Jesus is the new Moses who leads us from the
slavery of sin. We recall this title “Lamb of God who
takes away the sins of the world” in every Eucharistic
celebration, signifying that the liturgical action is truly a
saving mystery that recalls His ultimate sacrifice on the
cross.
This weekend, the printed copies of the first Year-End
Report about the parish and the school are available in
the church. This report is not an extensive picture of
what happened to the parish and school in 2010 but it
tries to highlight the important experiences we had as a
community in the past year. It gives a picture of what we
have done for our parish: the ministries and services we
have rendered; the projects we have accomplished; the
generous donations you gave that sustained us in living
out our mission; the sacred actions and worship we did
together; and the many other things that brought us
together as one Church. This report is not about your
pastor or other priests, but about us, priests and lay
people together, as we continue to journey together in
faith and life towards the fulfillment of the plan of our
loving Father.

Religious Education & Youth News
Confirmation Classes have begun but you may still
sign-up this Sunday at the Ministry Center, 8:00 a.m.-
2:00 p.m. For information call Robin at (858) 277-3861.
Reconciliation Meeting for parents of second
graders on Wednesday, January 19th, 7:00-8:00 pm in
the Ministry Center. First Reconciliation is Thursday,
February 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the church.
NO Religious Education classes on Sunday, January 30.
The Youth Service Project is ongoing throughout the
year. This project helps men, women and children who
are entering shelters. For a list of needed items please
contact Robin at (858) 277-3861 or stop by the Ministry
Center.
All parishioners 50+ are invited to join the St. Columba
Seniors Club. Each month we have luncheons in the
church hall on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. It’s a nice
way to meet other church seniors and enjoy a day out.
You also get top-notch entertainment.
