Santiago Alvarez “Memoir of a General”

On March 25, 1897, the assembly of the Magdiwang and Magdalo Council was held at Tejeros.

The assembly started with the declaration of Chairman Jacinto about the main topic of discussion which
was how to bolster the defenses in the areas that are still under Magdiwang Control.

Mr. Severino de las Alas told them that before focusing in minor subjects, they should first discuss about
establishing a revolutionary government.

Chairman Lumbreras replied, he said that the Katipunan already have a government law which now holds
the authority over the islands.

De las Alas concludes that the K in the sun of the flag did not indicate whether the revolutionary
government was democratic or not.

The Supremo replied that the Katipunan is not governed by anyone.

Mr. Antonio Montenegro refused to have that kind of revolutionary government because it would not
have a difference from the Katipunan which he claimed were no better than wild and mindless animals.

General Apoy stood up and defended the Katipunan.

Moreover, chairmain Lumbreras refused to resume his role and pass it to Supremo Bonifacio which he
thought that he is the rightful chairman.

Then Supremo Bonifacio took over the assembly and started the election to the following positions:
president, vice president, minister of finance, minister of warfare, minister of justice, and captain general.

While voting, Mr. Diego Mojica warned the supremo that the ballots were already filled out but not by
the voters themselves. However, he ignored him.

Mr. Emilio Aguinaldo won over Mr. Andres Bonifacio.

Mr. De las Alas proclaimed that since Mr. Bonifacio had the second highest votes in presidency, he
should be the vice president, but nobody replied.

For vice president, Mariano Trias won over Mr. Mariano Alvarez and Supremo Bonifacio. General
Vibora was elected as captain over General Apoy.

Mr. Baldomero Aguinaldo suggested a faster way of counting votes for all other positions to be voted.

Mr. Emiliano de Dios was elected as secretary of war.

Mr. Andres Bonifacio won over Mr. Mariano Alvarez as secretary of the interior.

Mr. Daniel Tiroma requested for a restoration of order and elect Mr. Jose del Rosario as secretary of the
interior for he is a lawyer and he has an educational attainment.

Supremo Bonifacio demanded an apology from Mr. Tiroma for disrespecting what was spoken about the
station in life of the person elected. He pulled out his revolver and aimed at Mr. Tiroma, who slid away
and got lost in the crowd.

Being the chairman of the convention, the Supremo adjourned the meeting and declared that all matters
approved in this meeting will be nulled and voided.
