3 Planning Your Deployment
aspenONE Deployment
In an aspenONE Deployment, aspenONE includes the following components:
• aspenONE Enterprise Server (required)
• Simulation Service for aspenONE (optional)
• aspenONE PIMS Platinum, aspenONE Process Explorer, or both must be
installed on different machines and configured as integrated apps for
aspenONE. (optional)
Overview
This chapter provides information and instructions for installing aspenONE
Enterprise Server and Simulation Service. aspenONE provides the following
installations:
• Installing using the One-Click installation — Requires minimum
configuration information and installs all the software required to run
aspenONE from a single machine.
• Installing using the Standard installation — Allows you to specify
configuration information to run aspenONE in a distributed environment.
The Standard installation is required if you want to deploy more than one
Simulation service machine.
For information about configuring aspenONE, refer to Chapter 5, Using the
Configuration Utility, Chapter 8, Administration App, and the Admin App Help.
Important: If you want to install aspenONE V8.8 on a machine that has V8.6
or earlier versions installed, you must run the migration executable first to
preserve the data on the machine with the earlier versions of aspenONE.
The process to migrate and restore aspenONE data includes the following:
• Running the aspenONEMigration.exe program on a machine that has
V8.6 or earlier version installed.
• Copying all of the folders and files created by the
aspenONEMigration.exe to a new machine with aspenONE V8.8.
• Run the aspenONE Configuration Utility to restore the data.
4 Installing aspenONE 17
To create a backup of aspenONE data:
1 Copy the MigrationTools folder from V8.8 DVD a1 located in the:

Scanning Folder
Overview
aspenONE creates a Scanning folder on your local computer that includes five
sample HYSYS models and five sample Aspen Plus models that users can use
immediately.
The Scanning folder provides model authors with an easy way to share
models with other users.
Users with the appropriate permissions can use this Scanning folder to:
• Add, remove, and edit files.
• Share files with other users.
After the installation completes, a shortcut for the Scanning folder is created
on the desktop. When you want to add a file to the Scanning folder, you can
drag the file from Windows Explorer to the Scanning Folder shortcut.
A user’s permissions for the Scanning folder are the same as the permissions
for the drive on which the folder was created. The Scanning folder
permissions determine who can access the Scanning folder and the tasks they
can perform.
To share files in the Scanning Folder, the permissions on the files must be set
to allow other users to view the files, access the files in HYSYS or Aspen Plus,
and modify and save the files to the Scanning folder.
A system Administrator can use the Properties of the Scanning folder to
manage who can access and modify files.
Files in the Scanning Folder are:
• Automatically and incrementally scanned every minute. Files that have not
changed are not scanned again.
• Files in the scanning folder are re-scanned when modified.
• Ingested into the search engine and appear in the Search results.
• Deleted from the index when removed from the folder.
44 4 Installing aspenONE
Launch and Activation Permissions for the
aspenONE Service Account
The aspenONE service account must have Launch and Activation
permissions for Component Services. If this account does not have these
permissions, you might receive a COM error or message when you activate
Simulation services.
To add permissions:
1 Run dcomcnfg.exe. The Component Services configuration panel
opens.
2 Navigate to Component services | Computers | My Computer.
3 Select Properties.
4 Click Edit Default for Launch and Activation Permission and verify
that the aspenONE service account has Launch and Activation
permissions.
5 If the aspenONE service account does not have these permissions, select
Allow for all of the permissions for the aspenONE service account and
click OK to grant these permissions.

Overview
During the aspenONE installation, several rules are set up. The following rules
specify how to configure ports, protocols, and applications.
AspenONEWebsocket
The AspenONEWebsocket rule is an application rule. It specifies that the
following application should have access to any network protocol:
C:\Program Files\AspenTech\aspenONE\aspenWebsocket\AspenONEWebsocket.exe
AspenONESearchSitePort
The AspenONESearchSitePort rule specifies that inbound connections and
traffic be allowed on port 80 using the TCP protocol.
erl
There are two erl rules. Both rules are for the following application:
C:\Program Files\erl5.9.1\bin\erl.exe.
One rule specifically allows UDP connections and traffic, and the other rule
allows TCP connections and traffic.
Erlang
There are three Erlang rules. These rules open ports 5672, 5673, and 55672
for TCP connections and traffic.
Java
There are two Java rules. Both rules are for:
<path>\java.exe.
One rule allows UDP connections and traffic, and the other allows TCP
connections and traffic.
Tomcat7Port
The Tomcat7Port rule specifies that inbound connections be allowed on port
8080 using the TCP protocol.
46 4 Installing aspenONE
