12 2 Installation Requirements
3 Planning Your Deployment

The installation and configuration of the aspenONE system is best suited to

someone familiar with the Information Systems in your company. The
following diagram illustrates the components involved in the topology of the
aspenONE system:

aspenONE Deployment
In an aspenONE Deployment, aspenONE includes the following components:
• aspenONE Enterprise Server (required)
• Simulation Service for aspenONE (optional)
• aspenONE PIMS Platinum, aspenONE Process Explorer, or both must be
installed on different machines and configured as integrated apps for
aspenONE. (optional)

3 Planning Your Deployment 13

aspenONE Search Security
The scanning service uses a domain account (the Installation Administrator
account), which must have read access to all the files and folders in the file
shares being scanned. When users search for items, the Windows Active
Directory security system is in effect; aspenONE uses Windows Authentication
to identify a user, and it returns search results only for items users have
permission to read. When the security settings of a model or file are changed,
the item must be rescanned. If you have configured Schedule Manager for
incremental scanning of files, the system automatically reprocesses the file
the next time the scanning Job executes and any change is then in effect. If
the scanning Job is manual, then the system administrator should run the Job
again.

aspenONE Enterprise Server

The aspenONE Enterprise Server provides the backbone to the aspenONE
solution. The aspenONE Enterprise server is the host and contact point for
aspenONE, and contains the:
• web server
• web applications
• search server
• messaging broker
• service endpoints
• resource tracking for the entire system
The installation for the Enterprise Server is only available as a 64-bit
installation.

14 3 Planning Your Deployment

aspenONE Simulation Service
The aspenONE Simulation Service provides the aspenONE solution with the
ability to execute simulation requests. You can install this service on a
separate machine in order to expand the number of simulations available to
the system. If aspenONE Simulation Service is not installed on the same
machine as the Enterprise Server, you must know the name of the machine
where the Enterprise Server is installed. You also must configure the
aspenONE Simulation Service machine for the maximum number of
simultaneous Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS simulations.
The installation for aspenONE Simulation Service for aspenONE is available as
a 64-bit or 32-bit installation.

aspenONE Plant Data Service

Plant Data service available from Simulation allows users to map simulation
variables with plant data and compare results with real time or historic plant
data. To enable the plant date service, you must install aspenONE Process
Explorer.
The aspenONE Process Explorer server provides plant data information to
aspenONE users.

4 Installing aspenONE

Overview
This chapter provides information and instructions for installing aspenONE
Enterprise Server and Simulation Service. aspenONE provides the following
installations:
• Installing using the One-Click installation — Requires minimum
configuration information and installs all the software required to run
aspenONE from a single machine.
• Installing using the Standard installation — Allows you to specify
configuration information to run aspenONE in a distributed environment.
The Standard installation is required if you want to deploy more than one
Simulation service machine.
For information about configuring aspenONE, refer to Chapter 5, Using the
Configuration Utility, Chapter 8, Administration App, and the Admin App Help.

Migrating Data from aspenONE

Scanning Folder
Overview
aspenONE creates a Scanning folder on your local computer that includes five
sample HYSYS models and five sample Aspen Plus models that users can use
immediately.
The Scanning folder provides model authors with an easy way to share
models with other users.
Users with the appropriate permissions can use this Scanning folder to:
• Add, remove, and edit files.
• Share files with other users.
After the installation completes, a shortcut for the Scanning folder is created
on the desktop. When you want to add a file to the Scanning folder, you can
drag the file from Windows Explorer to the Scanning Folder shortcut.
A user’s permissions for the Scanning folder are the same as the permissions
for the drive on which the folder was created. The Scanning folder
permissions determine who can access the Scanning folder and the tasks they
can perform.
To share files in the Scanning Folder, the permissions on the files must be set
to allow other users to view the files, access the files in HYSYS or Aspen Plus,
and modify and save the files to the Scanning folder.
A system Administrator can use the Properties of the Scanning folder to
manage who can access and modify files.
Files in the Scanning Folder are:
• Automatically and incrementally scanned every minute. Files that have not
changed are not scanned again.
• Files in the scanning folder are re-scanned when modified.
• Ingested into the search engine and appear in the Search results.
• Deleted from the index when removed from the folder.

Note: The Scanning folder is not deleted when aspenONE is uninstalled.

For information about configuring aspenONE, refer to Chapter 5, Using the
Configuration Utility, Chapter 8, Administration App, and the Admin App Help.

7 Maintaining aspenONE

This chapter describes administrative Tasks to optimize the performance of

aspenONE. The following topics are covered:
• Removing Specific Types of Items from the System
• Changing the Idle Session Timeout

Adding and Removing Adapters

from aspenONE Simulation
Services for Aspen Plus and
HYSYS
You can control the number of Aspen Plus and HYSYS adapters that the
aspenONE Simulation Service uses. The AgentConfiguration.xml file
includes three variables that control the number of adapters available in the
aspenONE Simulation Service:
• ResourcePoints – the total number of adapters to run .
• Start – number of simulation instances (adapters) of an adapter type
(HYSYS or Aspen Plus) available.

To add adapters:
1 Edit the file: C:\Program
Files\AspenTech\aspenONE\SystemAgent\AgentConfiguration.xm
l.
2 Change the value in the resourceCost tag to be the total number of
adapters to run.
3 Change the value of the Start tag for each simulator to the number of
adapters available.
4 Open the Services administrative tool for Windows and restart the
AspenTechSystemAgentService.

Note: Restarting the service does not stop any running adapters.

To remove adapters:
1 Open the Services administrative tool for Windows and stop the
AspenTechSystemAgentService

7 Maintaining aspenONE 59
2 Edit the SystemAgent\AgentConfiguration.xml file located in
C:\Program Files\AspenTech\aspenONE\.
3 Change the value in the resourceCost tag to the total number of
adapters to run.
4 Restart the machine.

Changing Idle Session Timeout

When a user logs into aspenONE using a web browser, an aspenONE license is
checked out. From within aspenONE, users can activate services including
Aspen Plus or Aspen HYSYS simulations and plant data services. These
services check out the corresponding tokens while the service is running.
When a user closes the browser, the aspenONE session and any active
services are stopped and all tokens are returned.
If a user leaves the browser open and does not interact with the application,
the session is automatically logged off after an idle session timeout period.
This default timeout is 30 minutes and can be configured by the
administrator.

To change the idle session timeout period:

1 Open the Services administrative tool for windows and stop the
aspenONEAgentService.
2 Stop aspenONEWebsocket.exe*32 process from Task Manager
3 Using Notepad, edit the aspenONEWebSocket.exe.config file on the
server in folder: C:\Program
Files\AspenTech\aspenONE\aspenWebsocket
4 Look for the <add key="Timeout" value="30"/> element and change
the value to the desired number of minutes. To disable the timeout value,
change the value to 0, or delete the element.
5 Save the file and restart the aspenONEAgentService.
