Overburden pressure is defined as the pressure exerted by the weight of one layer of rock on

another. This is the cause of the degree of deformation and mineralogical transformation due to

pressure, which results in a change of appearance between sedimentary layers.

Even though there is no ideal material or type of soil to build on it, otherwise there would be no

human settlements everywhere. What really matters is a detailed study on the main resistance

parameters of the floors, so that the construction does not collapse. In the case of very unstable

soils, geotechnical engineers have developed support techniques for civil engineering works on

technically bad soils for construction. Thus, there are no good or bad materials to build on them,

but good studies and geotechnical solutions.

1) gamma rays have the highest frequency values, are in the order of 1023 hertz, in contrast to
radio waves with frequency orders of 103 hertz.
2) radio waves have the longest wavelengths within the electromagnetic spectrum of light, of
the order 104 meters. The smallest wavelength values correspond to gamma rays with
orders of 10-14
3) Theoretically, all types of electromagnetic radiation are transmitted at the same speed, the
speed of light (300,000 km/s)
The most important thing for a rock mechanics engineer is to ensure that the foundation of
a construction remains stable and does not collapse. Mainly, this is achieved by
understanding the types of failure, discontinuities, position of the water table, joints, shear
stress, among other parameters, to evaluate the stability of the ground through on-site and
laboratory tests. Although it is important to know the type of material, style of deposit,
size and shape of the grains, this knowledge is not essential to carry out a construction
site.

1. Most of the historical record of earthquakes occurs at the edges of tectonic plates. In
fact, there are earthquake occurrence maps and all of them successively define the edges
of the tectonic plates.
2. Subduction zones. In these characteristic forms of the ocean floor, earthquakes of
Great Magnitude occur in the zone called the Benioff Zone, which is a highly seismic
zone.
3. In ocean trenches, tens of kilometers thick sink below the continental crust, causing
frequent earthquakes.
