Do you agree with the view that “co-educational schools are

better than single-sex schools”?
Intro
Co-educational schools are schools that educate pupils of both sexes together. A study
shows that students perform better in single-sex schools than in co-educational schools.
However, I agree with the statement that co-educational schools are better than single-sex
schools. This is due to the offers given by co-educational schools are more diverse, the
importance of equality is taught and the school also helps to prepare the students for the
real world.

Body 1
Inequality is one of the problem that the society faces today. By the existence of co-
educational schools, people can prove that both men and women are receiving the same
treatment in the same school. Compared with single-sex schools, the students are graded
and evaluated depending on their performance and not on gender. Moreover, a school with
mixed students offer an environment that gives men and women the chance to express
themselves and share their views. For example in an co-educational environment, students
are allowed to discuss and debate between both sexes. As a result, they will be able to
explore everyone’s perspectives and their differences when it comes to views. Therefore, co-
educational schools are better than single-sex schools in terms of practicing equality.

Body 2
As we grow up we encounter many different environments happening around us and
co-educational school will be the perfect place to start and help the children to adapt to the
environments. Co-educational schools teaches and motivate the children to interact with
both gender and this can improve their social skills along with building their personalities.
This communication skills are very important especially when we are in a workforce. We will
need to work together with everyone without dividing then into own sex groups. With this it
shows that co-educational schools help people in a long run and is better than single-sex
schools.

Furthermore, co-educational schools promotes socialisation and enhancing their social
skills. People who were not educated in co-ed schools usually find it difficult to socialize and
interact with the opposite sex since they are not used to communicating and talking to
members of the opposite sex. Conversely, students enrolled in mixed classrooms experience
being with members of the opposite sex and become familiar with existing with them and
have more experience with taking to them. In a study based on interview with the students,
the socialisation of pupils leads to improved social and personal development. Both girls and
boys in co-ed schools were reportedly more self-confident, well-balanced and better
equipped to make new friends than their counterparts in single-sex schools. Therefore, co-
ed schools are better than single-sex schools.

Counter
In terms of academic performance, students from single-sex schools perform better
academically in all-boys or all-girls schools than in coed educational institutions. This is
because the co-existence of boys and girls in the classroom can lead to shyness, intimidation
or distractions to some students. For example, if a boy has an infatuation on a girl or they
will be in a relationship and something goes wrong, this can affect the studies of these
students. Hence, this will leads to getting low grades and decrease in overall performance.

Rebuttal
On the other hand, co-ed students can share their life experiences with the opposite sex
and this helps the member to understand each other better and respect their perspectives.
In a co-ed environment, people have a better idea of how to treat the opposite sex and this
can also create a sense of comfort around both sexes.

Conclusion
To sum up, co-educational schools do help students to be prepared for the environment
that they are going to face after school life and single-sex schools helps students to become
more focused and aware of their school performance. To add, co-educational schools are
better than single sex schools even though there are some drawbacks to co-educational
schools such as distractions. With this, it is recommended that every schools are co-
educational schools.
