 Practical Research is one of the contextualized
subjects of the senior high school curriculum that
is taken as three (3) subjects taken in 3 semesters;
Practical Research 1, Practical Research 2 and
Investigation, Inquires and Immersion. Topics in
this subject include Nature and Inquiry of
Research; Identifying the Inquiry and Stating the
Problem; Learning from Others and Reviewing the
Literature; Understanding Data and Ways to
Systematically Collect Data; Finding Answers
through Data Collection; and Reporting and
Sharing Findings.
According to Sumio Iijim, as cited by EM Albay in 2017,
research can be undertaken in any kind of environment,
as long as you have the interest. In Practical Research 2,
the challenge is not actually encouraging the students
to have an interest on something but encouraging the
students to have interest on the subject itself. It is one of
the feared subjects. Teachers, also, are having
difficulties in teaching the subjects since Research as a
Subject were taken during college and few are
undergoing graduate studies and in most seminars it is
assumed that participants already have backgrounds in
Research. According to many, also cited by EM Albay in
2017, research is a sign of intelligence.

 It is the teacher’s responsibility to deliver the
curriculum and administer the teaching-
learning process even such subject is feared
and difficult to teach. Aside from the difficulty
in delivering the lessons itself; there is a
perennial problem of tardiness and
absenteeism among senior high school
students. Since these students are young
adults, many are already working and others
are not fond of staying in the school. With this,
Worksheets had been a solution.
 Worksheets 1 to 7 was developed and is used in the Practical
Research 2 class of students in Automotive Servicing, Shielded
Metal Arc Welding and Information and Communications
Technology. Worksheet 1 is about Chapter I (Introduction)
which include Background of the Study, Objectives of the
Study, Statement of the Problem, Significance of the Study,
Scope and Delimitation and Definition of Terms. Worksheet 2 is
about Chapter 2 (Review of Related Literatures and Studies)
which includes Related Literatures, Related Studies, Legal
Bases, Formulation of Conceptual Framework and Listing of
References. Worksheet 3 is the formulation of Null Hypothesis.
Worksheet 4 is the Methodology which includes Research
Design, Sampling and Sampling Technique, Data Gathering
and Data Analysis. Worksheet 5 includes enumeration of Data
and Sources of Data. Worksheet 6 includes Findings and
Discussions. And Worksheet 7 includes Findings, Conclusions
and Recommendations.
 As cited by Chi-Di Lee (2014), Worksheets have been
used I teaching for a long time. In modern time,
Worksheets have even become a driving force of
curriculum in some countries. Teachers use Worksheets
for the purpose of supporting studying and promoting
active learning, raising interest in learning science,
and assessment. Many studies suggest that well-
designed Worksheets has positive impact on the
students learning achievement (Sasmaz-Oren &
Ormaci, 2012). However, researchers observed that
there were many inappropriately designed and
misuse Worksheets that hinder learning (Lesley &
Labbo, 2003.) Therefore, it is also the responsibility of
the teacher to check if the Worksheets are
acceptable to the students.
 This study aims to evaluate the acceptability of Worksheets
used by students in Practical Research 2. Specifically, it aims
to :
1. evaluate the Worksheet in terms of Kalinawan (Clarity and
Understanding); Nilalaman (Content); Mga Aspetong may
kinalaman sa Guro (Teacher Factor) and Mga Aspetong may
kinalaman sa Mag-aaral (Student Factor)
2. determine the advantages and disadvantages of the use of
Worksheet
3. determine the difficulties encountered by the students in
answering the Worksheets
4. determine the aspects to be improve on the Worksheets
5. determine the reaction of the students on the Worksheets
 This study shall be used as basis for further
utilization and improvement of the
Worksheets used in Practical Research 2. It
may also become a basis for
recommending the continual utilization of
the Worksheets.
 This study seeks to answer “What is the level of acceptability of
the Worksheets in Practical Research 2?”
Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:
1. What is the level of rating of the Worksheets in terms of the
following:
 Kalinawan (Clarity and Understanding);

 Nilalaman (Content);

 Mga Aspetong may kinalaman sa Guro (Teacher Factor); and

 Mga Aspetong may kinalaman sa Mag-aaral (Student


Factor)
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the
Worksheets?
3. What are the difficulties of students in using the Worksheet?
4. What are the changes to be made in the Worksheets?
5. What are the reactions of the students on the Worksheets?
 Research Design
 This is an Action Research study which aims to
assess the utilization and acceptability of the
Worksheets in Practical Research 2. An Action
Research uses qualitative and quantitative data for
individuals to study education problems that they
face in their setting (Creswell, 2012).
 Time and Place of the Study
 The Worksheets were created and utilized by the
Senior High School Students of Mangaldan National
High School in P. De Guzman St., Mangaldan,
Pangasinan during the SY 2018-2019. Evaluation
survey was conducted in November 2018.
 Participants/Respondents
 There were one hundred ninety two (192) students
who utilized the Worksheet. Using Stratified sampling
technique, the respondents shall be as follows:

 Instrumentation & Data Collection
 This study shall use Worksheets and
Evaluation Sheets to gather data on the
acceptance of the students on the
Worksheets in Practical Research 2.
 Also, written feedback was gathered
through the Reflection Journals written by
the students.
 Analysis of Data

 The data was manually encoded in the SPSS


v. 20. Mean of each variable/ indicator was
computed while the descriptive rating was
determined using VLOOKUP in Microsoft
Excel.

 Analysis and coding of Reflection Journals


written by the students was also done by the
Researcher.
Interpretation of Data

 Percentage and mean were computed. The mean


shall be interpreted using the following Likert scale:

 This study adheres to the 2017 Ethical


Guidelines to Health and Health-Related
Researches. As much as possible, the
identity of the participants of this study shall
be keep confidential. Furthermore, the
results of the study shall be used solely by
the Researcher for academic purposes only.

 According to the respondents, they also
sometimes use Worksheets in Practical
Research 1, Mathematics, Science, Filipino,
Physical Education, Araling Panlipunan,
Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao and often in
English.

Teacher-Related Aspects
 On the teacher-related aspect, Worksheets are good. On
the aspect that the teacher explains the contents of each
Worksheet, not all students attended to the discussions in
the class since many are late and worst, absent. The
teacher explained the objective of each Worksheet. The
teacher explained the expected output on each
Worksheet. Changes were also made on the Worksheets
according to the suggestions of the students.

 On the written Reflection Journal, according to a student,


“everything turns easier because she provided our
Worksheet. I promise that in doing or in giving time to your
subject I can payback all your sacrifices and such Ma’am,
Thank you for all...”
Teacher-Related Aspects
 On the other written Reflection Journal, it was written, “hindi nya
kami pinabayaan sa aming mga Worksheet dahil tinuturuan niya
kami ng dahan-dahan upang aming maintindihan ng mabuti
kahit na hindi nya kami naturuan ng mahigit na isang buwan
dahil nagkaroon siya ng malaking problema. Hindi nya kami
pinahirapan ng husto dahil pinadali na lang niya ito...”

 Also, another student wrote, “Practical Research II subject is not


easy because PRII is a major subject and it depends on the
teacher if they will be easy and our teacher do that by providing
Worksheets in every chapter of our research and I honestly say
our/my teacher is committed and sincere when teaching but
when mad I can’t say because I’m scared but she have good
way of teaching that I can’t compare to any teacher... ”

Advantages of the Worksheets

•Electronic copies of the Worksheets


may be provided via social media
group chats to provide copies for
those working students.
•Students who have difficulties in
handwriting may encode their
answers.
Advantages of the Worksheets
 According to a great majority of the respondents, the
Worksheets made the writing of every Research
chapter easier for them. Many of them said that
Research was given proper direction and writing of
each Chapter was even more exciting. This is also
supported by a statement written in one of the
student’s journals, “ I enjoy PR2 because in every
Worksheet have their different level of difficulties it’s
like you are playing a game in very level the difficulty
is levelling up too...”

 Also, another student wrote that “Practical Research


Worksheet is very effective to understand carefully the
topic and your research paper”
Advantages of the Worksheets
 According to another student, “The best thing
about this subject was it became easy for us
because Ma’am provided use Worksheet to work
on.”

 According to some of the respondents, the


Worksheets provide a pattern of every step on
how to proceed with the Research. Few of the
respondents said that the fear on the Research as
a subject was gone. It was also written in the
survey questionnaire as additional comment,
“mas nauunawaan ung paggawa ng research”

Disadvantages of the Worksheets
 On the disadvantages of the Worksheets, almost half
of the respondents said that they became fond of
being absent in class since Worksheets are also
provided for those absent. Some responded that
there was a lack of time in preparing the actual
Manuscript of their Research. Also few answered that
Worksheets are costly and consumed a lot of paper.
Very few responded that is was difficult since answers
are hand-written.

 Also written as additional comment, “umaasa na lang


sa Worksheet” This is maybe because Worksheets are
done by group and some students allow their
classmates to copy their Worksheet.

Difficulties in Answering the Worksheets
 On the difficulties in answering the Worksheet, many responded
that there are difficulties in the directions in answering the
Worksheets, especially those students who were not present
during the discussion. There are also difficulties of many on the
medium of instruction used since the Worksheets are written in
English and the suggested medium of instruction in Practical
Research II is English. Few had their difficulties in terminologies
used and handwriting which is also listed as one of the
disadvantages. Very few have their difficulties in having a copy
of the Worksheet since Worksheets are provided for free for those
who attended the class only.

 Also, it is written on the additional comments, “pag-iisip ng


isasagot” which, again, prove that Research really needs critical
and analytical thinking skills.

Changes Recommended on the Worksheets
 On the changes recommended on the Worksheets,
almost half of the respondents said that additional
explanations may also be written on the Worksheets.
Many suggested that additional directions may be
provided. Worksheets may be written in Filipino as
suggested by few respondents. Few suggested that
the contents of the Worksheet may be lessen. While
very few suggested that worksheets shall be also
written in Pangasinan.

 Also written on the comments that, “kahit wala na


lang baguhin sa Worksheet dahil maayos naman”
Utilization of the Worksheets
Most of the respondents answered that
Worksheets must be continually used in
Practical Research 2. While very few said that
Worksheets must not be used in Practical
Research 2.

Overall Reaction on the Worksheets
 On the overall reaction on the Worksheets, majority of the
respondents were happy and the Worksheets add up to their self
confidence. Many said that it was easy and exciting. Very few
responded that the Worksheets are scary, confusing and
annoying.

 Also it is supported by a written journal that, “ang natutunan ko


ay paano gumawa ng Practical Research na mag-isa, mabuti
pala yun at hindi gumagaya sa iyong klassmate”

 Another student wrote, “I finish this research with dignity and


encouragement to others that there is no hard things when have
the determination to do it and finish so that you will surpass it and
you will succeed in the end keep on believing don’t give up
cause we can do all things while we were strong”

With the findings of the study, the following are
concluded:
 Research is not just for intelligent people but
also for those skilled.
 The sincerity and commitment of the teacher
is a “must-have” in teaching Research.
 Students can develop their interest in
Research and also on their field on interest.
With the findings of the study, the following are concluded:
 The Worksheets are good but they can be improved to
truly help the students and not to hinder their learning and
love for Research.
 Worksheets are suitable for working students and other
students-at-risk of the dropping out (SARDO).
 Worksheets are costly and English as a medium of
instruction in Research is not highly accepted.

As an over-all conclusion, the Worksheets made a positive


impact on the Grade 12 students of Information,
Communications and Technology, Automotive Servicing and
Shielded Metal Arc Welding of Mangaldan National High
School.
With the findings and conclusions, the following
are recommended:
 A module on Practical Research 2 shall be
written so that explanations and proper
guidance will be provided even for those
SARDO.
 The Worksheet could be written in Filipino as
well and be further explained in Pangasinan.
With the findings and conclusions, the following are
recommended:
 Recycled paper can be used in printing the
Worksheets.
 Worksheets may be divided into sub-worksheets/
Activity Sheets to lessen the contents of
Worksheets.

As an overall recommendation, the Worksheets


may be continually used but with the
improvements suggested by the students and
other concern individuals in the academe.
