OPERATING

INSTRUCTIONS for ECOQUIP® WET-ABRASIVE BLAST SYSTEM

1 HOSE CONNECTIONS
a. Connect purged Supply Air Hose to appropriate connection on the Panel, making sure to use whip-checks
and safety pins
b. Turn on Supply Air Valve (145 psi max recommended) and confirm that everything is normal – no air leaks
c. Connect Blast Hose to appropriate connection on the Panel, making sure rubber grommets are in place
and making sure to use whip-check and safety pins
d. Connect dead man hoses or make electrical connections depending on your equipment’s dead man

2 BLAST POT SETUP PROCEDURE

a. Selector Valve in OFF/RINSE position – Abrasive Meter Valve closed
b. Fill Water Tank with clean, fresh water
(For HoldTight® 102 applications, mix 50 parts water to 1 part HoldTight® 102 in Tank and Blast Pot as you
are filling)
c. Depress and lock open the spring-loaded bung at the top of the Blast Pot (add water to Blast Pot before
adding media)
d. Add desired amount of Media (200 lbs min, 500 lbs max for 6.5 cu. ft. Blast Pot)
e. Use RINSE VALVE to rinse basin of Blast Pot and aid with washing Media into the Blast Pot [e-stop must
be activated (pulled out) for water pump to operate]
f. Make sure to fill water to the top of Blast Pot’s open seal
g. Turn bung until the pin is released and the spring pops it up and seals Blast Pot closed
h. Turn Selector Valve to FILL/FLUSH position - Blast Pot will self-vent, releasing all air in the Blast Pot
i. Adjust Blast Pot Pressure 20 psi higher than intended Blast Pressure
j. After Blast Pot has been fully pressurized, rotate Selector Valve to OFF/RINSE position, deactivate e-stop
k. Blast Pot is now set up, ready to proceed to blast instructions #3

3 BLAST SETUP PROCEDURE - CONTROL PANEL

a. Selector Valve in OFF/RINSE position – Abrasive Meter Valve closed
b. Rotate Selector Valve to BLAST position (it can be rotated in either direction)
c. Activate e-stop
d. Open Abrasive Meter Valve about 1/4 to 1/2-turn depending on intended Blast Pressure
e. Activate Dead Man Handle and adjust Blast Pressure Regulator to desired set point
(Remember to keep Blast Pressure 20 psi lower than initial Blast Pot Pressure, and adjust accordingly)
f. Open Abrasive Valve/Lever
g. Fine-tune Blast Regulator and Abrasive Meter Valve (pump should stroke 1/sec when set properly)

Setting Abrasive Meter Valve too high will cause excessive consumption of Media while NOT improving
performance – it can also cause media to splutter from nozzle

h. Wet Abrasive Blast System is now ready for blasting

4 WASH DOWN PROCEDURE

a. Abrasive Valve/Lever closed
b. Rotate Selector Valve to WASH DOWN position.
c. Activate Dead Man Handle, Wash Down is initiated but it will take time for all of the Media to clear from
within the hose
WARNING: DO NOT Wash Down any surface you have not already Blasted or intend to Blast as
there will always be some residual Media in the hose

d. Use Wash Down before going on break and leave Abrasive Valve closed any time you are not blasting!

RECHARGING THE POT

a. Once Media Stops Blasting (indicating the Blast Pot has run out of Media) you will need to Recharge the
Blast Pot
b. Close Abrasive Valve/Lever
c. Rotate Selector Valve to OFF/RINSE position
d. Open Dump Valve slowly to depressurize the Blast Pot
e. Fully open Dump Valve to drain enough water to make room for more Media (catch this water if you are
using HoldTight® 102 or if local laws restrict run-off)
f. With Bung in the open position, add Media (min 200 lbs, max 500lbs) – do not exceed Blast Pot’s capacity
g. Close Dump Valve and Rinse any Media from the top of the Blast Pot, filling water level to seal in top of
Blast Pot
h. Rotate Bung until it pops up tightly against its Seal and allows Blast Pot to pressurize
i. Rotate Selector Valve to FILL/FLUSH position
j. Rotate Selector Valve to OFF/RINSE position
k. System is ready to blast – follow directions from #3

5 SHUTTING DOWN THE SYSTEM
a. After blasting is completed, perform the Wash Down Procedure (#4)
b. When Media has stopped blasting, and only water is blasting from the Blast Hose, rotate the
Selector Valve to the OFF/RINSE position.
c. Keep the Dead Man Handle activated until only air is blasting from the Blast Hose
d. The Blast Hose is now clear of Media and water
e. Make SURE the Abrasive Valve/Lever is closed, release the Cam Lok Coupling between the Abrasive
Valve and the Panel
f. Hold a bucket up to the Cam Lok Groove and rotate the Selector Valve to WASH DOWN – this will flush
Media from the internal lines of the Panel
g. Rotate the Selector Valve to Fill/FLUSH
h. Hold a bucket under the Abrasive Hose and SLOWLY open the Abrasive Valve/Lever – this will allow the
unspent Media to be pushed out of the Blast Pot and be recovered in the bucket
i. Eventually, the pressure in the Blast Pot will be relieved, engage Bung in its open position - at that point,
rotate the Selector Valve to OFF/RINSE
j. Use the Rinse Valve Hose to wash water into the Blast Pot over 360° to flush out all of the Media.
k. Shut off the air-supply hose and activate the dead man until all pressure in the system is relieved
l. It is now safe to disconnect the air-supply hose and the blast hose
m. Empty the water tank as untreated, stored water will stagnate
n. If your weather is cold and there is any possibility of a freeze before the System will be used again, see
the Operator Manual for instructions on winterizing the System.

See Operator’s Manual for more detailed instructions and for all warning and caution details
