An Adventure Begins

The game begins with an introduction to Pokemon from

Professor Rowan. He gladly clears up any questions you
have about Pokemon and forces you to push open a
PokeBall on your touch screen, revealing a Munchlax.
As always, you are asked to choose your gender (for this
walkthrough, the boy is chosen), pick a name, and
choose your rival's name (which is just Rival from now
on). Soon after, you are shrunken into the world of
Pokemon in the Sinnoh region and placed into your
room, where it all begins...

In the beginning, you watch a television program on the Red Gyarados. In Platinum, Rival comes
up and talks to you for a while. Explore your small room while you're still here -- this adventure
will take you away from home for a very long time. Go downstairs and you see your mother,
who tells you that Rival wants to see you. As always, walk out of your house and see your
beautiful, little town -- Twinleaf Town. Your house is at the bottom-right corner and Rival's
house is at the top-left corner. As you try to enter his house, he'll come out in a hurry and quickly
go back in. Follow him up to his second floor. He tells you he's going to the lake, but doesn't
specify his reasons. Interested, you try following him and meet him yet again at the entrance of
Route 201. It turns out that he had also watched the show on Red Gyarados and wants to find it.

In Platinum, the two of you bump into Professor Rowan. Tell him you truly love Pokemon twice.
Afterwards, Dawn, the girl character (the boy character if you chose to be the girl) joins the three
of you, bringing with her a briefcase from which you choose your first Pokemon!

Red Gyarados in the Lake?

You'll lead the way to Lake Verity by going

throughVerity Lakefront, west of Route 201. Rival will
follow closely behind you. Entering Lake Verity, you'll
find Professor Rowan and his assistant, Dawn, having a
conversation by the lake. They go away soon, leaving
behind a suitcase, which you and Rival curiously try to
examine. Before you can do that, however, two wild bird
Pokemon, Starly, come over to attack the two of you.
Luckily, you discover three PokeBalls in the suitcase.
This is where you choose your starting Pokemon, so
choose wisely! The PokeBalls contain the following
three Diamond/Pearl starters:
Choose Your Pokemon

#387: Turtwig (Grass)

#390: Chimchar (Fire)

#393: Piplup (Water)

Any Pokemon is a good choice -- at least you have one

to defend yourself in this frantic situation! Luckily, these
are only lv. 2 Starly, which you can easily defeat with
your newly owned Pokemon (although it's not really
yours yet). After your first Pokemon battle, your
Pokemon will have gained its first bit of experience. It
turns out that Rival had chosen one of the other starters
that has a type advantage over yours. For example, if you chose Turtwig, then Rival chose
Chimchar.

At this point, Dawn comes over, seemingly very nervous that she had forgotten about the
suitcase and that you and Rival have already used the Pokemon inside. She'll quickly leave with
the suitcase and the two of you must also go back. On your way back, you'll see Professor
Rowan and Dawn again. Professor Rowan seems a bit upset.

In Pearl, this entire sequence involving going to Lake Verity is deferred (see below). After
selecting your Pokemon from the briefcase, Professor Rowan and Dawn will go away, leaving
you and Rival for your first Pokemon battles! After this battle, your new Pokemon will likely
level up to level 6.

Afterwards, you are back inside your house, talking to

your mom about the exciting little journey you had just
gone through. She'll tell you to visit Professor Rowan in
Sandgem Town and will give you a pair of Running
Shoes to make your journey easier. You can now run by
holding down the "B" button while moving around on
the directional pad! So, exit your hometown once again,
going north on Route 201.

In Platinum, you and Rival will go to Lake Verity at this

point. A mysterious Cyrus is seen talking to himself.
Rival tries to talk you into trying to catch the legendary Pokemon he's so excited about, but
realizes neither of you have PokeBalls. Without being able to do much more here, it's time to
visit Professor Rowan.

Route 201

There isn't much on Route 201 except for a lot of wild Pokemon. There is, however, a girl you
can talk to on the way who'll give you a Potion. You'll notice that your Pack is neatly divided
into Items, Medicine, PokeBalls, TMs & HMs, Berries, Mail, Battle Items, and Key Items. You
can take your time now to begin training your Pokemon. Remember, you can always heal your
Pokemon by going back to your house and talking to your mom.

Keep on walking north and you'll arrive at Sandgem Town.

Visiting the Professor

Upon arriving at Sandgem Town, Dawn greets you and

takes you to the Professor's lab, which is right near the
entrance. Apparently, Rival got there before you; he
comes out of the lab and leaves. Inside the lab, Professor
Rowan talks to you for a bit and gives you the Pokemon
you chose earlier. In addition, he gives you the incredible and exciting task of journeying
through the Sinnoh region and recording all the Pokemon you encounter on your new Pokedex.

After leaving the lab, Dawn will give you a tour around town. In Platinum, she'll give you TM
27 - Return. Now you're almost free to go wherever you want, except you must pay your mom a
final visit before setting off on your journey. Before that, however, you should heal your
Pokemon at the Pokemon Center and stock up on items at the Pokemon Mart. Go directly south
to Route 219/Sandgem Beach to pick up an itemball containing an Antidote. After that, you
should head back to Twinleaf Town.

Goodbye Twinleaf Town!

Back home, your mom is excited to hear that you'll be taking on the great task Professor Rowan
had handed to you. She gives you a Journal used for recording your daily events. Rival's mom
then comes in and asks you to give a Parcel to Rival, and tells you he's probably gone to Jubilife
City. Now it's time to leave your home and begin your journey!

Route 202

You'll arrive on Route 202 by going north of Sandgem

Town. There, Dawn will show you how to catch
Pokemon and give you five PokeBalls. What's more
exciting is that you'll be battling other trainers for the
first time here. There is a Potion for you to pick up in the
northern end of Route 202. Very soon, you'll arrive at
Jubilife City.

City of Joy

Once you arrive at Jubilife City, Dawn, expectedly, will

talk to you. In Platinum, the two of you will bump into a
mysterious Shady man who introduces himself as the
"globe-trotting elite of the International Police", aka
Looker. He'll give you a Vs. Recorder, used for
recording matches. Dawn tells you that Rival is at the
Trainers' School. This is located right across from the
Pokemon Center. There, Rival is memorizing notes from
the blackboard. Give him the Parcel, which turns out to
be two Town Maps. He'll you one of the maps and will
head off to Oreburgh City. There are two
trainers/students on the blue mat; you should battle them to gain some more experience. After
defeating them, the boy will give you TM 10 - Hidden Power, the very move their Abra used on
you. In Pearl, you'll just get a Potion.

If you leave and try to go north, a man will approach you

and ask you to find three clowns to obtain a Pokemon
Watch, or Poketch. One of them is directly behind the
Pokemon Center; he'll ask you a simple question and if
you answer it correctly, he'll award you with a Coupon
used to obtain your Poketch. By the way, the answer to
all the questions is "Yes". The first clown is to the right
of the Poketch man. The other clown is located across
the condos, at the entrance of the Jubilife TV Station.
The final clown is a little to the west, standing outside
the Poketch Company. Now that you have all three
Coupons, the man who approached you earlier will give
you the Poketch. You can find out detailed information
about all the features of the Poketch by checking out the
Poketch Guide. Go north, and you'll see the Jubilife
Condominiums. Inside, a lady will give you Quick
Claw.

Now go to the station past the Poketch Company and talk

to the Fisherman inside for an Old Rod. After that, go all
the way east. You may want to explore a bit of Route
204 by going north. You can pick up a Parlyz Heal near the pond and also an Antidote in
Ravaged Path (the cave). However, you won't be able to go any further than that for now. Go
east from Jubilife City to get onto Route 203.

Route 203

You'll battle Rival for the first time (second time in

Platinum) on Route 203, so be prepared. He uses a lv. 7
Starly and a lv. 9 Piplup (should actually be whatever
Pokemon that has a type advantage over you, but for the
purposes of this walkthrough, assume he picked the
Water-type starter). After this battle, keep on going east.
On the way, you'll battle trainers, and pick up a
PokeBall and a Repel. Route 203 ends at Oreburgh
Gate. At the cave's entrance, a man will give you HM 6 -
Rock Smash. However, you won't be able to use it until
you get your first badge. Continue through the cave,
battling the two trainers, and come out the other side. You are now at Oreburgh City.

City of Energy
Oreburgh City is where you'll receive your first Gym
badge. Once you enter, a trainer takes you over to the
gym. Of course, Rival is already there. However, he tells
you that the Gym Leader has gone to Oreburgh Mine. On
the second floor of the first building, a person will give
you a Dusk Ball. Also, on the second floor of the
building furthest to the east, another person will give you
a Great Ball. Yet again, on the second floor of the
building next to the PokeMart, you can obtain a Heal
Ball if you show the Hiker a Zubat. Now that you've
gotten all the items to keep you happy for a while, go
south into the Oreburgh Mine.

Oreburgh Mine

At the entrance of Oreburgh Mine, you can pick up a X Defend, or a PokeBall in Platinum. As
you go deeper, you'll see workers and their Machop. You'll find a Potion to the right. Talk to the
person who looks different from everyone else. That's the Gym Leader. He'll demonstrate an
impressive Rock Smash and then leave. At the far left, you'll find an Escape Rope. Now it's time
to go to the gym to fight for your first gym badge!

Rock-Solid Gym

The view inside the gym is much more three-

dimensional than the rest of the world. You only need to
battle two Youngsters before reaching the Gym Leader,
Roark (you can avoid the second Youngster by using the
stairs). Roark uses a lv. 12 Geodude, a lv. 12 Onix, and a
lv. 14 Cranidos. They are all Rock-type Pokemon and
are very weak against Water and Grass-type moves. If
you chose a Turtwig or Piplup as your starter Pokemon,
this battle will be fairly easy if you've raised them
enough to learn Razor Leaf and Bubble. To make it even
easier you could catch a Budew on Route 204. If you
chose Chimchar, you can capture a Budew or a Machop on Route 207. Using Chimchar may be
more difficult, unless it knows Mach Punch, which is super effective against Roark's Rock
Pokemon.

After defeating Roark, he awards you a Coal Badge. This badge allows your Pokemon to use
Rock Smash to smash rocks. Additionally, he gives you TM76 - Stealth Rock. Now that you've
earned your first badge, first go north to Route 207. Go all the way north through the large patch
of tall grass to pick up a PokeBall. Another hidden PokeBall can be found in the empty space on
the right. You won't be able to go any further, since you need a Bike to go up the slippery slope.
Go all the way west towards Oreburgh Gate. Rival will stop you. He's planning to get to Eterna
City through Jubilife City. If you want to do the same, you must go through Oreburgh Gate.
Oreburgh Gate

Now that you can use Rock Smash, go north in Oreburgh

Gate and go down the stairs. By smashing many more
rocks, you will be able to pick up a Stardust (Big Pearl
in Platinum) and TM70 - Flash. After learning Surf,
you'll be able to explore more of Oreburgh Gate. Surf
west and pick up TM31 - Brickbreak at the north. If
you keep surfing west, you'll get onto land and battle a
Veteran. At this point, if you can use Strength, you'll be
able to pick up an Earth Plate as well as TM01 - Focus
Punch. Now go all the way back to Jubilife City and
head north.

Team Galactic

Go towards the north and you'll bump into Professor

Rowan and Dawn. They are confronted by two Team
Galactic members. You and Dawn then team up to battle
the Galactic Grunts. Defeating them shouldn't be too
hard at this point. After their defeat, Professor Rowan
tells you that Team Galactic is trying to harness the
energy released through Pokemon evolution. After that,
the two leave, and a staff member from Jubilife TV will
give you a Fashion Case for your amazing battle.

Next, you should check out Jubilife TV. On the first

floor, you can battle a Reporter with a rather high level Pokemon. On the second floor, a man
will give you a Mask of your starter Pokemon. Go into the dressing room on the left and talk to
the man standing at the door to dress up one of your Pokemon. Afterwards, its picture is framed
on the wall. Now, head north towards Route 204.

Route 204

After learning Surf, you can surf across the pond on the left side for a Sea Incense. You can get
an HP Up by surfing across the pond on the right side. As part of Route 204, you'll enter a cave
called Ravaged Path, which you may have encountered earlier. Smash the rock on the left side to
obtain TM39 - Rock Tomb. Also after learning surf, you can surf north to pick up TM03 -
Water Pulse and a Luck Incense. Next, smash the rock on the right side and exit the cave.
Follow the path provided and you should be able to move along just fine. Pick up the
Awakening next to the first trainer and TM09 - Bullet Seed past the Twins. After learning Cut,
you can cut down the tree east of the Twins and talk to the person inside for TM78 - Captivate.
Then you'll arrive at Floaroma Town.
Town of Flowers

Floaroma Town is a beautiful little place filled with

colorful flowers and a lot of items to pick up. You'll see
two Team Galactic members standing between trees;
we'll worry about them later. A little girl in the small
house north of the Pokemon Center will give you TM88
- Pluck. Next to that house is a flower shop. Outside,
you can pick up an Oran Berry and a Cheri Berry.
Inside the shop, the lady on the left will give you a
Sprayduck to water Berries that you grow. The lady on
the right will give you a different Berry every day. The
lady at the top will trade you Accessories for your
Berries. Now that you've done all that there is to do at Floaroma Town, go east onto Route 205.

Route 205

There are two Berries for you to pluck right away: Chesto Berry and Pecha Berry. Then, you'll
bump into a little girl asking you to help her father, who is held at Valley Windworks by Team
Galactic. So, head east to Valley Windworks. You can pick up a Potion outside the building.
After learning Surf, you can surf behind Valley Windworks to pick up TM24 - Thunderbolt.
Battle the Galactic Grunt blocking the entrance to the building. Afterwards, he'll lock himself
inside the building with a Works Key, and tell you that his pals in Floaroma Town have the
other key. Go back into the northwest section of town in the flower patch and go in between the
trees, where the two Team Galactic members were standing before.

Floaroma Meadow

You'll enter Floaroma Meadow, where you'll find two

Galactic Grunts threatening a man for Honey. They then
battle you one by one. The man you rescued will give you the Works Key they dropped and also
Honey, which is used to attract Pokemon from a sweet-smelling tree. An example of a tree like
this can be found next to the house if you go east. With your key, go back to Valley Windworks.

Valley Windworks

Inside the building, you'll fight through a few Galatic

Grunts (all of which you can avoid one way or another).
Approach the red-haired woman, Mars. She is one of the
commanders of Team Galactic and will battle you. After
the battle, Team Galactic will leave, and the little girl's
father walks over to thank you.

Now that you've gotten rid of Team Galatic for the

moment, head west onto Route 205 and cross the bridge.
As you walk north and battle trainers, you'll pick up a X
Attack, a PokeBall, and two Berries. Before you get to
the Berries, you can find a hidden Antidote in the center of the tiny raised platform. After that,
you'll pick up a Repel and a Super Potion. The lady inside the little red house can heal your
Pokemon. Keep on going north, and you'll enter Eterna Forest.

Fuego Ironworks

After learning Surf, you can surf north-west from Route

205 to get to Fuego Ironworks. There a building with a
bunch of Berries outside. Inside the building are a bunch
of switches that propel you around, trainers (Workers,
actually), and items. The switches will send you spinning
in the direction they're pointing to. You'll be able to pick
up a Burn Heal, a Fire Stone (at the north-east corner),
and a Rock Incense. At the center of the building is Mr.
Fuego, who'll give you another Fire Stone. Next to him
is TM35 - Flamethrower.

Eterna Forest

After learning Cut, you can skip the forest by taking the
path on the right side of the entrance. Go north, cut the
tree, and talk to the girl you see. She'll give you a Big
Tree Accessory. There are also plenty of Berries to pick
north of the girl. You'll be able to pick up TM82 - Sleep
Talk and SilverPowder south of the girl. Keep on going in the north-east direction to come out
the other side of the forest.

Upon entering the forest, a girl named Cheryl will ask to walk with you due to fear of Team
Galatic. As you battle trainers in Eterna Forest, she'll battle alongside you, using a lv. 15
Chansey. Her Chansey heals your Pokemon after every battle. First, go west a bit to pick up an
Antidote, which you'll probably need in a forest filled with Bug and Poison type Pokemon. Go
back to where you started and head north. You'll have a double battle with a Bug Catcher and a
Lass. Pick up the Parlyz Heal and you'll have another double battle with Psychics by going
south. You'll find a Great Ball at the end. Go all the way east and pick up a Potion. Go all the
way north. Along the way, you'll find a Honey that's covered by the tall grass. In Platinum,
Cheryl gives you a Soothe Bell at the end for walking with her.

After learning Cut, you can cut the tree and explore the Old Chateau. Beside the creepy looking
house is an Ether. After entering this haunted mansion, go straight into the door under the
staircase. The trash can in the left room contains an Antidote. Go back and go up the stairs and
go into the room on the left to pick up an Old Gateau. Now go through the center door, which
leads you to a long hallway of rooms. The first room contains a Dead Plate and the last room
contains TM90 - Substitute.

Get out the mansion and go east a bit to exit the forest.

Almost There...

After exiting Eterna Forest, you'll continue your journey on Route 205. There are plenty of
Berries to pick up behind the pond and a hidden Honey in the empty square next to them. Go
south past the bridge with all the Fishermen to pick up a Potion, or a Guard Spec. in Platinum.
Finally, you'll arrive at Eterna City!

History Living

There are plenty of things to do in Eterna City before

your second gym battle. First, go north a bit. In Platinum,
Rival will take you to see a Pokemon statue. A girl
named Cynthia will then give you HM01 - Cut. As
usual, you won't be able to use this until you get the
badge in this city. There's a Herb Shop right around the
corner that offers herbs that restore a Pokemon's
condition at the cost of making them unhappy. Next, stop
by the Pokemon Center and talk to the girl for a
Friendship Checker, an application for your Poketch
that identifies Pokemon that like you. Talk to the old
man in the house next to the Pokemon Center for an
Explorer Kit, which can instantly take you to the Sinnoh
Underground. You can try it out right now, and you'll
end up in a place that looks like what you see to the left.
In the Eterna Condominiums next to the Pokemon Mart, you can change your Pokemon's name
with the help of the Name Rater (the old man on the first floor). The little kid on the same floor
will trade you a Chatot for a Buizel. An old lady on the second floor will give you TM67 -
Recycle. Now check out the gym at the southern end of the city. Before you go inside, you might
want to pick up a Super Potion behind the gym.

Mowing the Lawn

This is a Grass-type gym. Before battling the Gym

Leader, you'll have to find four trainers and battle them.
Once you're within the maze of trees, go all the way
north and go south a bit. One of the trainers is hiding
right behind a tree. After battling, that trainer will tell
you where to find the second trainer. You can reach the
second trainer by going all the way south past the two
boulders. Next, you'll find the third trainer near the
entrance, behind the three small trees. The final trainer is
all the way at the north-east corner, standing beside four
flowers. In Platinum, there is a large clock in the center
of the gym, whose hands you simply walk across to get to the next trainer.

After you've defeated all four trainers, the Gym Leader, Gardenia, will appear on the green
platform at the north end of the gym. She uses a lv. 19 Cherubi, a lv. 19 Turtwig (lv. 20 in
Platinum), and a lv. 22 Roserade. In Platinum, she has a lv. 20 Turtwig, a lv. 20 Cherrim, and a
lv. 22 Roserade. A Fire-type Pokemon should easily take care of Gardenia's Pokemon. Another
good strategy is having a Kricketune and a Staravia. You should already have your starter
evolved and all your Pokemon at lv. 16+. If you chose Piplup, you can use Peck. Using
Kricketune, you can use Fury Cutter. For Staravia, you can use Wing Attack. To finish Roserade,
you can use a Kadabra, and use Confusion. Gardenia awards you the Forest Badge after her
defeat, which allows you to use Cut outside of battle and allows traded Pokemon up to lv. 30 to
obey you. She'll also give you TM86 - Grass Knot.

Grunt-Fighting

Now, go all the way to the north end of Eterna City to

disrupt Team Galactic's evil plans. Cut the tree to get
into the Team Galactic Eterna Building. Before you do,
you can Cut another tree in the back and get TM46 -
Thief. In the building, two Galactic Grunts will battle
you on the first floor. On the second floor, a bunch of
Galactic Grunts are researching on computers; two of
them will battle you if you talk to them. On the third
floor, you'll battle another Galactic Grunt and a Scientist.
On the top floor, you'll battle a Team Galactic
Commander, Jupiter. In Platinum, finding Jupiter is
slightly trickier. First take the right set of stairs on the first floor, then the left set of stairs on the
second floor. The right stairs on the second floor take you to a Blue Shard and a Revive, and the
left stairs take you to Jupiter.

Once you defeat Jupiter, Team Galactic will leave the city. It turns out that you've saved the
owner of the Bicycle Shop. Now you can go to the Bicycle Shop south of the Pokemon Center to
pick up your free Bicycle. This new type of Bicycle has four gear modes that you can shift
among by pressing "B". In Platinum, Cynthia, who you met earlier, will give you a Togepi Egg.
Now, ride your new Bicycle east onto Route 211.

Route 211

After you can Surf, go north of the first body of water you see to pick up a hidden PP Up in the
small piece of land at the corner. In the large patch of tall grass, you can find a hidden PokeBall
in top-most empty spot. There's also a hidden trainer in the bump that you'll see. Keep on going
east, smash the rock, battle the Birdkeeper, and pick up TM12 - Taunt. You can check out Mt.
Coronet (although you won't be able to go too far without Strength) for some items. There is a
Revive (EnergyPowder in Platinum) hidden in the first rock that you see and an Elixir in
another rock. For now, this is as far as you can go, so now go back to Eterna City and go all the
way south to Route 206.

Route 206/Cycling Road

You can obtain an Exp. Share from Professor Rowan's

assistant in the city gate if you've seen at least 35
Pokemon. This is a very useful item; the Pokemon on
your team holding this will share experience with the
Pokemon in battle. It is great for training very weak
Pokemon (Magikarp, for example). Now you can hop on
your Bicycle and start cruising down Route 206. It's a
downhill ride filled with a plethora of trainers. At the
other end, you'll be able to get a decorative Flag from
the girl in the transit gate.

Right outside are a couple of Razz Berries. You may want to cut the tree on the right side to
explore a bit more land by going north. You'll be able to pick up a Burn Heal, some Rawst
Berries, and a Super Repel. If you go all the way north, you can explore Wayward Cave,
although it's very hard to do without Flash. Now go back south to get to Route 207.

Route 207

Dawn will come to say hi, and will give you an Vs. Seeker (it doesn't matter which hand of hers
you choose). This item allows you to battle trainers you've fought before over and over again. In
addition, she'll give you a Dowsing Machine for your Poketch, useful for locating invisible
items. To the left, there are four Bluk Berries to pick. The others are growing, so you can only
water them. If you go south a bit, you'll see the slope you saw earlier in the game. From here,
you can quickly get back to Oreburgh City to heal your Pokemon. Your Bike can get you back
up the slippery slope. Now go east, pick up the Super Potion, and go into Mt. Coronet.
Optionally, you can take the road behind the hill to battle additional trainers and pick up a Dire
Hit.

Mt. Coronet

In Platinum, there's a hidden EnergyPowder on the

nearest rock once you step into the mountain. The only
thing you'll encounter here is a man who talks a about
Mt. Coronet and the creation of the Sinnoh region.
There's not much to do after that bit of history, so go east
and exit the mountain.

Route 208

You'll be on Route 208, fighting more trainers. After you

get Rock Climb, you should take the bridge across the waterfall and climb up the rocks. A Hiker
will battle you at the top. Then, smash the rock at the top and pick up the hidden Iron on the
wall. Walk around and you'll find a X Speed and a PokeBall. In the tall grass patch, you'll find a
Honey in the empty spot next to the honey tree. A trainer next to that tree will give you an Odd
Keystone. Go up a bit for many Berries. The Berry Master's House is right next to those
Berries. The Berry Master inside will give you a different Berry each day. The little girl will
give you a Berry Searcher application for your Poketch, which shows you the locations of ripe
Berries. The other girl sells fertilizer.

Keep going east and you'll arrive at Hearthome City.

Warm & Kind

Once you step into Hearthome City, a Pokemon will run

towards you. It bumps into you and a girl named Keira
walks over to thank you for stopping her Pokemon from
running wild. She tells you to go to the Contest Hall,
where she'll give you something. Go straight eastward
until you see two people blocking the transit gate. Talk
to the man near them to receive a Happiny Egg (not in
Platinum). Go to the Pokemon Fan Club east of the
PokeMart. The Chairman will give you a Poffin Case.
Now go to the building next to the Fan Club, take the
elevator up, and the lady there will give you a Shell Bell,
which allows the Pokemon holding it to regain HP every time it inflicts damage. There's a Poffin
House to the right of the PokeMart, where you can make Poffins from Berries.

The Gym Leader of this city's Gym, Fantina, stands outside of the Contest Hall (north of the
PokeMart). Talk to her and she'll go away. Unfortunately, she didn't go back to her Gym, so you
won't be able to get a badge from her for now. Now you can go into the Contest Hall.
Surprisingly, your mom is in there with Keira. Keira will give you a Glitter Powder for your
Fashion Case. You'll also get a Tuxedo from your mom. Talk to the man straight ahead for a
Mild Poffin. In Platinum, Fantina is actually inside the Contest Hall. After your mom leaves,
talk to Fantina, the purple-haired woman, and she'll actually go back to the gym. So now head to
the gym for your third badge! Unfortunately, in Diamond or Pearl, the gym comes later in the
game, so you can either try out the contests or leave the city.

Third Badge in Platinum

The Hearthome Gym in Pokemon Platinum consists of a couple of rooms with trainers. To get to
the next room from the current room, simply go to the red door with the same pattern as the blue
mat on the floor. The details of the battle with Fantina are on a separate page.

Cuteness

As you head south, Rival will show up to challenge you

to a battle. In Platinum, you'll find Rival inside the
southeast gate. He uses a lv. 19 Starly, a lv. 21 Prinplup
(evolved version of the starter), a lv. 20 Ponyta, and a lv.
20 Roselia. In Platinum, he uses a lv. 25 Staravia, a lv.
27 Prinplup, a lv. 23 Ponyta, and a lv. 23 Roselia.
Remember, this is specifically for trainers who chose
Chimchar as a starter. After defeating him, go north to
Amity Square, where you can take a stroll with one of
your cute Pokemon (if you have one) and pick up items.
If you're in need of a cute Pokemon, go back a little to
Route 208 to catch a Psyduck. You and your cute Pokemon will then take a walk together and
talk to other people with their cute Pokemon. You can find TM45 - Attract and TM43 - Secret
Power in this area. If you go to the northwest corner, you'll see two ruins with a Spooky Plate
next to one on the right. You can find a hidden Amulet Coin in the other one if you go in, walk
around, and press "A" a few times. If you try talking to your Pokemon, it might give you
something it picked up from the ground! After that, it's time to head east to Route 209.

Route 209

Go north past the patch of tall grass to pick up a Honey

(a Great Ball in Platinum). Talk to the Fisherman
looking east; he'll give you a Good Rod. Cross the
bridge and go north for a Chesto Berry and a Leppa
Berry. Go east from the Pikachu look-alike trainer to
pick up a X Accuracy. After learning Surf, surf east
from the Pikachu trainer to pick up TM19 - Giga Drain.
Keep going east and then go north. Pick up the Razz
Berries and the invisible Awakening in the pit. For the
next item, you'll need some pretty good biking skills.
Shift your Bicycle into the fast gear and try rushing up
the slippery slope. Although it may be difficult, the reward is good: a Calcium. All the way
north, cut the tree and pick up TM47 - Steel Wing. Go into the tower, known as the Lost Tower.

Lost Tower

Lost Tower is filled with Ghost and Dark Pokemon. If Platinum, you'll have to revisit Lost
Tower after obtaining Defog later. Go up the levels while battling trainers and picking up the
following items: Oval Stone, Revive, and TM27 - Return. On the top floor, you'll see two old
ladies. The one on the left will give you HM04 - Strength (Spell Tag in Platinum) and the one
on the right will give you Cleanse Tag. Note that you won't be able to use Strength until you
obtain your third badge. Now you can leave the tower, keep going north, and arrive at the next
city.

Free of Worry!

Before entering Solaceon Town, you will see some

Berry trees (next to the PokeMart); pick those up. The
first thing you'll be able to do is get the Pokemon
History application for your Poketch from the man
standing outside the Pokemon Center. Next to the
Pokemon Center is the Pokemon News Center. Bring the
man inside the Pokemon he wants (different each day)
and he'll give you either a Quick Ball, Heal Ball, Timer
Ball, Great Ball, or Ultra Ball. Walk up a bit and you'll
find the Pokemon Day Care Center. You can leave up to
two of your Pokemon here to gain levels while you're
walking or have them make eggs. After leaving two Pokemon here for the same time, a man will
appear in the Day Care Center who'll give you the Day-Care Checker for your Poketch. With
this device, you'll be able to see the status of the Pokemon you leave here.

There are three ledges to explore on the east side of town. The left ledge leads you to a useless
house. The middle ledge leads you to a house where the lady inside will give you a Seal Case,
which is used to store stickers for decorating your PokeBalls. The right ledge leads you to the
Solaceon Ruins, where you'll find trainers, items, and Unown. Right outside, you'll also be able
to pick up a PP Up. Inside the Solaceon Ruins, check the top-left staircase for a Repel (a Fire
Stone in Platinum). The top-right staircase is much more interesting, as it takes you to a level
with more staircases. Now take the bottom-left staircase. Fight the single trainer and go down the
bottom-left staircase for an Escape Rope (a Water Stone in Platinum). Continue down the top-
right staircase and then the top-left staircase from there. The bottom-right staircase has a Big
Mushroom (a Thunder Stone in Platinum). Now go up the top-left staircase and then the
bottom-left staircase. Now you'll see four lovely itemballs containing a Nugget, a Rare Candy,
a Mind Plate, and an Odd Incense. In Platinum, you'll find HM05 - Defog instead of a Rare
Candy. Now either use an Escape Rope to get yourself out of here, or, if you feel like it, try to
find your way out.

Route 210

Route 210 is covered with tall grass, which your Bicycle

cannot pass through; however, you still need to use it.
The first thing you should do is pick up the Berries. You
should get on your Bicycle to go up the slippery slope
(using the speed gear) and obtain TM51 - Roost from
the guy standing on the right. Do the same for the left
side to fight more trainers and get a Great Ball (Super
Repel in Platinum). The Cafe Cabin sells Moomoo Milk
and also has trainers you can battle. You'll notice that a
funny group of Psyduck is blocking the road, so head
east to Route 215.

Route 215

It will begin raining once you're on Route 215. Head up

the small, wooden bridge to continue on this route. Fight
the trainer and pick up the Ether. As you go up the other
bridge, talk to the Blackbelt facing north to receive
TM66 - Payback. Go north across the bridge and pick
up the hidden Honey at the location shown on the
screenshot. Get off the bridge, cut the tree and fight the
Blackbelt. Afterwards, pick up the Fist Plate. You can
either hop over the ledge now, or go around to fight the
other Blackbelt. In Platinum, you can pick up a Fist Plate. In any case, cut the tree at the south to
pick up the Bluk Berries and Pecha Berries. Now go up the raised area and first pick up the
Guard Spec. by going south on the bridge. Continue east on Route 215. Cut the first tree you see
to obtain TM43 - Secret Power. You can pick up a Full Heal by going west a little and hopping
over a ledge. Keep on going east, pick up the Berries, and you'll arrive at Veilstone City.

Hewn From Rock

As you can see, Veilstone City is a huge city. It has a

large, five-story Department Store west of the Pokemon
Center. The first floor sells Balls, normal items, mail
items, and medicine items. Talk to the lady near the
counter for a Turtwig Mask. The second floor sells
battle items and stat boosting items such as Calcium.
Talk to the other girl behind the counter to receive a
Counter application for your Poketch. The third floor
sells a lot of TMs. The fourth floor sells decorations. On
the fifth floor, talk to the twin dressed in blue on the
right for a Sticky Barb. Finally, after a fun bit of
shopping, it's time to check out other things in the city.

Game Corner Fun

Veilstone City has a Game Corner where you can gamble and have fun. However, you'll need
Coins to do so, and you'll need a Coin Case to store them. The Coin Case can be obtained from
a clown in a house in the south-western part of the city. He'll spin a coin and ask you to pick
which hand the coin is in; just pick the same hand over and over until you get it. In the house
next to that house, the girl inside can give your Pokemon a massage. The bald man standing
outside the house to the left will give you TM63 - Embargo. Now you can check out the Game
Corner at the south-eastern part of the city.

You can buy 50 Coins for $1,000 or 500 Coins for $10,000. Talk to the two guys near the
counter for free Coins. Now you can have a bit of fun on the slot machines. If you get enough
Coins, you can go next door to the Prize Exchange to get some items, such as TMs, for your
Coins. Note that it is very costly to get stuff here. After you're done exploring, it's time to visit
the gym. After learning Rock Climb, you can pick up a Full Incense near the Gym.

Time to Fight

This is a Fighting-type gym, as you could probably tell

from all those Blackbelts waiting to battle you. To reach
the Gym Leader, you'll have to push the wooden slides
from the left or right side in order to move around. I
would suggest first battling all the Blackbelts and heal
your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center before solving this sliding puzzle. Note that once you
leave the gym, the slides are reset.

You want to eventually be able to slide the two slides at the very end so that they open up to the
Gym Leader. In order to do that, you'll need to move the slides in each of the three columns.
First take care of the left column by matching up the slides with the openings of each box. You
do this by sliding the slides of both the left column and the middle column back and forth. When
the left column is opened up at last, go to the end and push the slide at the very end to the right.
Now do the same for the right column, go to the end, and push the slide at the very end to the
left. Now all you need to do is push the slides in the middle column to the proper positions (you
probably won't need to if you followed the steps here, since everything will naturally fall into
place), and you'll be walking straight towards the Gym Leader!

The Gym Leader is Maylene and she uses some powerful Fighting Pokemon: a lv. 27 Meditite, a
lv. 27 Machoke, and a lv. 30 Lucario. After defeating Maylene, you'll receive the Cobble Badge,
which allows you to use Fly (though you haven't gotten this HM yet) outside of battle. Also,
she'll give you TM60 - Drain Punch.

Outside the gym, Dawn asks you to help her get her PokeDex back from Team Galactic. Go
north near the entrance to the city, and you'll find two Galactic Grunts facing Dawn. Talk to her
to initiate the battle. Dawn will team up with you, using her lv. 25 Clefairy. Together, the
Galactic Grunts have four Pokemon and Clefairy won't do too much to help you; so, be prepared.
The Galactic Grunts will return Dawn's PokeDex to her after their defeat and she'll head off to
Pastoria City. Go into the Warehouse to pick up HM02 - Fly. With Fly, you can now you can
move around previously visited areas of Sinnoh much more easily.

Now, go south onto Route 214. Note that there is more than one way to go on from here, but I've
decided to go this way since it's the most obvious one.

Route 214
This is a long, grassy route filled with trainers and items. The first items to pick up are the
Berries next to the pond. After learning Surf, you can go to the other side of the pond to pick up
a Rare Candy. Check out the Ruin Maniac Cave and pick up TM28 - Dig. You can choose to go
the regular path through the grass or the mountainous path on the left (or you can go both ways!).
If you go the mountainous path, pick up the hidden TinyMushroom in the empty spot in the tall
grass where a single trainer is standing. At the end of the mountainous path, you can pick up a
Max Potion in the large patch of grass. If you go the regular path, you'll be able to pick up an X
Sp. Def and a Big Root. You'll find a hidden Heart Scale in the rectangular patch of grass with
an empty spot on the left side. Whichever path you choose, you'll be able to reach Valor
Lakefront.

Valor Lakefront

Unfortunately, you won't be able to check out the lake

for now, since two men are blocking it. Keep going south
to pick up a Parlyz Heal. Inside the Seven Stars
Restaurant filled with all sorts of trainers who are
pretending to be eating (at least, it seems that way). Fight
them for lots of experience. Afterwards, go on to Route
213.

Route 213

Go into the first house you see after going south. Inside, a clown will give you TM92 - Trick
Room. After learning Rock Climb, go behind the house across from that house and climb down
the rocks. Go into that house and the guy inside will give you the Coin Toss application for your
b>Poketch. The trash can contains a Max Revive. If you climb south, you'll be able to pick up a
Protein. Then, climb down east, and climb up twice. Pick up the hidden Rare Candy on the
wall.

On the west side of the first house on Route 213, you can pick up a PP Up. In the hotel, you'll be
able to heal your Pokemon by talking to the lady behind the counter. On the other side, you'll
find a Red Shard. Soon, you'll reach a beach where you can battle with two little kids. Head
west from here. In the small house you see, Dr. Footstep's House, talk to Dr. Footstep inside to
get your Pokemon's footprint checked and receive a Footprint Ribbon. Nearby, smash the rock
and pick up TM40 - Aerial Ace. After learning Rock Climb, climb the tall hill on the east side
(fat guy standing under it), and pick up TM05 - Roar. Continue west to leave the beach area and
pick up the Berries. Finally, you'll arrive at Pastoria City.

The Marsh City

Once in Pastoria City, talk to the girl with the umbrella for a Piplup Mask. Go south of the
Pokemon Center and then east to pick up Persim Berries and Nanab Berries. In the house
directly south of the Berries, you'll find the Move Tutor. He'll teach your one of your Pokemon a
move it would get by leveling up to its current level if you provide him with a Heart Scale. In
the house across from the Pokemon Mart, the lady inside will give you a different Berry
everyday. After learning Surf, surf across the water in the south side of Marsh City to pick up
Mystic Water. Now it's gym time!

Watery Gym

Pastoria City's gym is full of water. Like the previous

gym, you have to solve a bit of a puzzle in order to reach
the Gym Leader. The gym has walking platforms at three
levels with the water level being controlled by three
types of buttons. The orange button will lower the water
completely, allowing you to access all three levels. The
green button sets the water level to the middle,
preventing you from accessing the lowest level. The blue
button raises the water such that you'll only be able to
walk on the top-most level. The water will then raise or
lower the yellow connectors between platforms.

First, head to the bottom-left side of the gym and step on the orange button. Go past the green
button and go all the way up the stairs. Step on the green button you see. Next, go all the way left
and step on the blue button. Head to the top-right side of the gym and step on the green button.
Go down one level and step on the orange button at the bottom-right side. Now go to the upper-
left side to the top-most level and step on the blue button. Now you'll get access to the Gym
Leader.

Crasher Wake, the Gym Leader, uses a lv. 27 Gyarados, a lv. 27 Quagsire, and a lv. 30 Floatzel.
He'll award you the Fen Badge and TM55 - Brine for defeating him.

Pastoria Great Marsh

Go to the north of Pastoria City to go to the Great Marsh.

This is the Safari Zone of Sinnoh. You pay $500 for 30
Safari Balls, which you use to catch Pokemon while in
the Great Marsh. You will definitely want to visit this
place at least once so you can get HM05 - Defog from
the lady near the entrance. More information regarding
the Great Marsh will be up later.

Other Activities

Talk to the Galactic Grunt standing outside of the Great

Marsh so he can leave. Head east, and you'll find him still standing there. Talk to him again to
really make him go away. Right afterwards, Rival will come over to battle you. His Pokemon are
all below lv. 30, so at this point, he shouldn't be too hard to defeat. After that, you can either
head west to go through Route 212 (which is pretty much optional) or go back east to continue
chasing the Galactic Grunt. We'll first consider going through Route 212 from the west.

Route 212

Route 212 is a straightforward walk westward. First pick

up the Berries near the beginning. You'll find TM06 -
Toxic near the marsh area past the two little trees. You
can also cut those trees to go across the thin bridge. On
the other side, you'll find an X Special. Keep on going
west from there until you pick up the Zinc. Keep going
west and you'll find some Fishermen. After learning
Surf, you can surf west a little and pick up a hidden
Protein on the land. To get to the itemball on the small
island (which turns out to be a TM), go west a little and
cross the thin bridge. If you know Surf, then you can surf
across the pond to pick up TM84 - Poison Jab. To go across the other thin bridges, head north
and chop the trees. Once you're on the "other side", you can pick up an Antidote near the south.
When you can't go west any longer, go north, and it'll stop raining. There's an Elixir partially
hidden from view behind a sign. Again, if you know Surf, you can surf across the pond to pick
up some Berries.

Cut the tree north of the large pond to pick up TM11 - Sunny Day. Along this section, you can
pick up Berries and fight two trainers. There are many police officers who will only battle you at
night. Here, you'll also find the Pokemon Mansion.

Pokemon Mansion

For now, the two rooms on either end of the Pokemon

Mansion are off limits until you obtain the National
Dex. However, you still have a lot to do; namely, a lot of
items to pick up. Explore every room, and you'll pick up a Great Ball, a Soothe Ball, a Burn
Heal (found in a trash can), and TM87 - Swagger. The room straight down the red carpet leads
you to the Trohpy Garden, where you can find some Pokemon in the patch of grass.

Surf across the pond next to the Pokemon Mansion (if you can) for a Rose Incense. After this,
you should fly back to Pastoria City.

Chasing The Grunt

Depending on if you chose to explore Route 212 or decided to ignore that route, you need to go
east from Pastoria City to chase the Galactic Grunt you scared away earlier. On the beach on
Route 213, you'll find him standing next to a Fisherman, thinking out loud. Talk to him, and he'll
go further east. Follow him, and you'll find him again east of the restaurant full of trainers. Talk
to him, and again, he'll leave, going north a little. Now he'll battle you after you talk to him once
more. After the battle, go north a little and you'll find Cynthia, who'll give you a SecretPotion to
clear the group of Psyduck blocking the road on Route 210.

Route 210

Now, fly over to Veilstone City (or you can go north a

bit more to get there) and head west from there to get to
the Psyduck on Route 210. Getting past Route 215 is a
simple matter of hopping over ledges. Go up to the
Psyduck to use the SecretPotion you obtained and the
Psyduck will disperse. Afterwards, Cynthia will come
over to give you an errand. She wants you to deliver an
Old Charm to her grandma in Celestic Town.

Go north to continue on Route 210. First grab the Super

Repel under the tree on the left side. Within this tall
grass, there are three Ninja Boys who you can battle. You'll notice them by seeing abnormal
lumps in the grass. At the center of this large patch of grass, you can pick up a Hyper Potion.
After the tall grass, you'll find an Ultra Ball in the north-east corner of the regular grass. As you
go north, you'll encounter some really thick fog. You might want to use Defog to get rid of it.
Head north-west. Go up the two sets of steps. After learning Rock Climb, climb east-ward (down
and then up), and battle the Dragon Tamer. Inside the house you see, an old lady can teach your
Pokemon a Dragon-type move. Go west a little and down the stairs to pick up a hidden Nugget
on the ground. Now go climb back to where you were originally.

Go all the way west by crossing the regular bridge and thin bridge, fight the Ninja Boy, and go
south to pick up TM30 - Shadowball. Go back east a little and head south now. Pick up the
Smoke Ball and continue west. After battling the Veteran, head north a little to pick up a bunch
of Berries. If you keep heading west, you'll reach Celestic Town.

The Past Lives

Celestic Town is quite small and quite easy to navigate.
Go into the Pokemon Center to obtain a Great Ball from
the man inside. The Blackbelt in the house west of the
Pokemon Center will give you a Poketch application
called the Analog Watch, which is simply a regular,
analog watch. Although there's no Pokemon Mart in this
town, you can buy and sells items in the house at the
north-west corner of town. Inside, the man with the
sunglasses will give you BlackGlasses.

Now, go to the center of the city and talk to the Galactic

Grunt blocking the cave entrance. You'll battle him and he'll leave afterwards. An old lady, who
turns out to be Cynthia's grandma, will come over to talk to you. You'll give her the Old Charm
and she'll thank you for it. Now, go into the cave and examine the wall paintings at the other end.
The old lady will then walk over to give HM03 - Surf. Keep in mind that you won't be able to
use this ability until you obtain your fifth badge from Hearthome City.

Once you leave the cave, the blue-haired man you met earlier in Mt. Coronet (who's name turns
out to be Cyrus) will talk to you for a while. Now, head west onto Route 211.

Route 211

There will be a bunch of Berries to pick up at the beginning of Route 211. Go onto the raised
land and talk to the guy facing south for TM77 - Psych Up. After learning Rock Climb, you can
smash the rock next to the trainer and climb up the steep rocks. On top is TM29 - Psychic. Mt.
Coronet is to the west, but you won't be able to do much more than pick up an Escape Rope. If
that sounds too boring for you, fly over to Hearthome City.

Another option, which is completely optional, is to visit Routes 219, 220, 221 now that you can
Surf. I recommend going there now to train your Pokemon. However, you won't be able to go
into Pal Park as of yet (where those routes lead to). Even so, you should still go. Below is the
guide for those three routes.

Route 219

To start off on Route 219, fly over to Sandgem Town and head south. Go past the beach and start
surfing south. You'll battle two children on land before going on more water. Surprisingly, Route
219, perhaps the shortest route in history, ends here!
Route 220

Route 220 proves to be longer and more exciting. You'll see a fork in the path. The right fork
would be a good choice unless you could care less to battle only one trainer. The left path has a
lot more stuff to do. Going down that path, you'll first battle two Swimmers. Go onto land to pick
up an Ether. Then go to the other side of the rock to pick up a Splash Plate. It seems like there
are more forks. The bottom-most fork will lead you to a single trainer. If you keep going east,
you can find a Carbos. Going east further brings you face to face with more trainers and
eventually takes you to Route 221.

Route 221

After battling the first trainer on Route 221, pick up the

Protein you see on land. Soon, you'll reach solid ground.
Battle the Fishman if you wish and then pick up a
Honey. If you go up to the north-west corner, you can
pick up a Pure Incense. At the north side, you'll find a
house deep inside the woods. Show the old man inside a
Pokemon at the level he requests (varies daily) and he'll
give you a reward. Along the south side of the route,
you'll be able to pick up some Berries. Once you reach
the end, you can pick up TM81 - X-Scissor. You'll
notice that Pal Park is closed and will only open after
you obtain your National Dex.

Now, onto Hearthome City.

Back For a Rumble

The only point in coming back to Hearthome City is to

fight in the gym. Trainers in the Hearthome Gym uses
Ghost Pokemon. Upon entering the gym, walk straight up and let the elevator take you up. This
gym contains simple math questions. If you get it right, you get to go to the next level; otherwise,
you fight a trainer. Press "A" against the sign to find out the question. If you want to answer the
question correctly (you might not want to if you want to battle trainers), choose the door
corresponding to the correct answer. After picking the correct door, you'll go through three more
of these types of puzzles.

Fantina is the Gym Leader and her Pokemon are relatively powerful. She uses a lv. 32 Drifblim,
a lv. 34 Gengar, and a lv. 36 Mismagius. However, they are considerably weaker in Platinum
since it comes much earlier. In Platinum, she uses a lv. 24 Duskull, a lv. 24 Gengar, and a lv. 26
Mismagius. However they have a weakness against Dark types and Ghost types. A Pokemon
strongly recommended is a Luxray. It can take out her Drifblim with Spark or other electrical
attacks, while for the other two use Bite. Fantinas strategy using Drifblim is using Gust, and
Ominous wind. Her Gengar mainly uses Poison Jab. Finally her Mismagius sometimes uses
Magical Leafs and Shadow Ball. If your starter was Turtwig and you taught it Bite, plus another
good level Pokemon with Bite should be enough. All Pokemon should be lv. 30+. After
defeating Fantina, she'll award you with the Relic Badge, which allows your Pokemon to use
Surf outside of battle. In Platinum, it only allows you to use Defog outside of battle. In addition,
she'll give you TM65 - Shadow Claw.

When you go out of the gym, Cynthia comes to talk to you. Now that you can Surf, there are
many previously inaccessible sections you've been to that you can now visit. Details can be
found in earlier pages. As Cynthia suggested, you should go to Canalave City, which can be
reached by going west of Jubilife City. So, fly over there and go west onto Route 218. Before
you do, you might want to pick up the Memo Pad, Marking Map, and Link Searcher
applications for your Poketch at the Poketch Company. Talk to the President, who stands next to
the counter on the first floor.

Route 218

The first thing you might want to do on Route 218 is to

surf north a little to hop onto land to pick up a Rare
Candy. Surf in the south-west direction, pick up a
Honey, and battle the two Fishermen. If you go west,
you'll reach land and be able to battle some trainers and
pick some Berries. Go into the border building, and
Professor Rowan's assistant will update your PokeDex
so it can distinguish between male and female Pokemon.
On the other side is Canalave City.

Cargo Port

Canalave City is where you'll battle Rival and obtain

your sixth badge. First, go into the first house you see,
and talk to the girl near the door for TM48 - Skill
Swap. The Move Deleter lives in the house across from the Pokemon Mart. He can delete moves
you no longer want from your Pokemon; his service is needed to remove any unwanted HMs that
you've taught your Pokemon. Before you head across the bridge to get to the west side of
Canalave City, be sure to heal your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center, for Rival awaits you on the
bridge.

Rival's Pokemon are all around lv. 30. He even has a new Heracross. After defeating him, as you
always do, continue west and go into the Gym.

Fists of Steel

The Canalave Gym supposedly specializes in Steel-type

Pokemon, but also uses a lot of Rock-type Pokemon. A
Fire/Fighting Pokemon will melt through this Gym
without breaking a sweat. However, you might break a
sweat trying to get to the gym leader, who can be
reached only after getting through the elevator puzzle of
this Gym (actually, this is very simple after locating
which elevator to take first). Start off by taking the right-
most elevator. Follow the path to go down the only
available elevator, fight the trainer, and take the only
available elevator up. Go across by going left and take
the only available elevator. Go across north, fight the trainer, and go right all the way. Go south
on the narrow aisle, and go back north. Continue to the only available elevator. Fight the trainer,
and go down the only available elevator. The red-bordered elevator will take you to the Gym
Leader.

Byron, the Gym Leader (also the father of Roark, gym leader of Oreburgh Gym), uses dual-type
Pokemon that are half Steel and half something else. His three Pokemon are: a lv. 36 Bonzor, a
lv. 36 Steelix, and a lv. 39 Bastiodon. For defeating him, Byron will award you with the Mine
Badge, which allows your Pokemon to use Strength outside of battle. He'll also give you TM91 -
Flash Cannon. Once you leave the gym, Rival will meet you outside and ask you to go to the
Library with him.

Three Lakes

The Canalave Library is located north of the Gym. Go to the third floor, where you'll find
Professor Rowan, Dawn, and Rival. The Professor will talk to the three of you about three
legendary Pokemon in three of the lakes in Sinnoh. He and Dawn plan on visiting Lake Verity.
He asks Rival to explore Lake Acuity and you to explore Lake Valor. As if there's an earthquake,
the building shakes and you hear a loud explosion. The others will rush out the building to see
what happened. Follow them outside. A Sailor comes over and notifies the four of you that the
tremor was the result of an explosion at Lake Valor. Rival rushes off and so should you! Time to
check out what happened at Lake Valor!
Lake Valor

Valor Lakefront (the area around Lake Valor) is situated

between Veilstone City and Pastoria City, so you can fly
to either city to get to the lake. You might remember that
you've actually gone past the entrance, which was
previously blocked by two men. Now that these men are
gone, you can explore inside.

Inside, you'll find an empty lake bottom filled with

splashing Magikarp and a few Galactic Grunts standing
around. Fight two of them if you wish to and enter the
cave at the center of the lake. Inside, Commander Saturn,
a Team Galactic boss, will battle you. After the battle, Commander Saturn will retreat from Lake
Valor, telling you that Commander Mars is at Lake Verity. Now, fly over to Twinleaf Town to
get to the other lake.

Lake Verity

From Twinleaf Town, go north-west to get to Lake Verity. Professor Rowan will talk to you
once you enter the lake, asking you to help out Dawn. You'll find her facing off with
Commander Mars, whom you will battle again (you had battled her once before). After defeating
her, she'll give you some details on what Team Galactic did, which is that they captured the three
legendary Pokemon Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie. Now you need to visit Lake Acuity, located at the
very north of Sinnoh. To get there, you'll need to go through Mt. Coronet. Fly over to Eterna
City and head east to Mt. Coronet.

Mt. Coronet

Inside Mr. Coronet, first use Strength to push the boulder

to obtain TM69 - Rock Polish. Go east, then north, and
push the boulder north to get it out of your way. Smash the rocks on the left for a Rare Candy.
Continue north-west and go down the entrance. Now, you'll need to use Defog to get rid of the
thick fog. Smash the first rock you see for a Stardust. Surf a bit east on the water for a Light
Clay on the small piece of land. Go back onto land, go down the second set of steps, and go
north for a Soft Sand. Keep on going and go east, down the next set of steps. Surf east or smash
the rock for a Max Elixir. Push away the first boulder you see for a Revive. Go south-east for a
Full Restore. Now, go back to where you were before going down the steps, and continue north
until you exit the mountain onto Route 216. Note that right before you exit, you'll see two
boulders; there is a HP Up between them.

Route 216

Surprisingly, it's snowing on the other side of the

mountain on Route 216. It's quite beautiful, but on some
areas, you sink into the deep snow, making it difficult for
you to walk around. Take the steps, go across the bridge,
and pick up the Ice Heal on the north end. Follow the
bridges all the way west for a nice detour from the deep
snow you would go through otherwise. Keep going west,
and you'll see a Snowbound Lounge, where you can heal
your Pokemon by sleeping in the bed. Go north from
there and you'll reach Route 217.

Route 217

The snow here gets really, really heavy. The snow at some areas will sink you up to the neck,
slowly you down further. You can typically speed up if you walk for a bit and stop walking.
Route 27 is quite wide, making it even more difficult to explore this route. You'll find a half-
covered Iron in the center of the road. North-west of that, you'll find a house and TM07 - Hail
laying outside. Behind that house, you'll find the very important HM08 - Rock Climb. After
getting that, talk to the Hiker in the house for an Icicle Plate. On the north-east side, there's a
house in which the girl inside will give you a Spell Tag. Don't continue north from here. Instead,
go west, and then head all the way north.

Acuity Lakefront

The snow has finally calmed down on Acuity Lakefront. You'll see two Galactic Grunts blocking
the entrance to Lake Acuity; so, come back here later. Go to the very north to pick up an Ultra
Ball. Then, head east to enter Snowpoint City.

City of Snow
Snowpoint City is a small, cold, snowy city. Besides
trading a Haunter for a Medicham in the house at the
north-western corner of the city, the only other point of
interest is the Gym, where you'll battle through a bunch
of Ice-type Pokemon for your seventh badge. Here we
go!

Ice and Snow

The ground of this Gym is

made of slippery ice with
snowballs as obstacles. You'll have to slide long enough on the ice,
gaining enough momentum, in order to break through the snow balls
and reach the gym leader. If you don't gain enough momentum and hit a
snow ball or slide onto a small patch of snow, you will stop moving.

It looks like a daunting task at first, and if you try to move around, it
gets increasingly frustrating. However, keep your goal in sight; that is,
you want to reach the Gym Leader, who can be reached if you go
straight after going down the first set of steps. There are six snowballs
blocking your path. Three of them are tightly packed on the lowest level (which I shall call level
4). Two are on the second lowest level (level 3), on either side of the three snowballs. The final
snowball is behind all of the, on the third lowest/second highest level (level 2) So, let's crack
these snowballs one by one, starting with the single snowball on level 3 (again, that's the second
lowest level).

Once you enter the Gym, move forward on the iceless ground as far as you can, just before you
touch any ice. Slide to the right, stopping at the snowball, and move up twice to the second snow
patch. Slide left and you'll gain enough momentum to crush a snowball on level 3. Clearing this
snowball up will give you more room to move around. Now, go onto the snow patch on level 1
by going up the bottom-left steps. You will be using the bottom-left steps every single time, so
make sure you know what I'm referring to. It is also shown in the screenshot. Go up one snow
patch, hit the wall on the left by taking one step, and slide up one patch. Slide right, and you'll
eliminate the last row of the snowballs on level 4. Take the bottom-left steps up to level 1, go
down and then right. You should be on the second patch. Slide up to get to the other end of the
Gym, take a left, go down, and slide right to smash the level 3 snowball. Slide left and go up the
bottom-left steps yet again. Go down one patch and slide to the third patch (one more patch to
the right than previously), which is on the right side of the Gym. Slide up, left, and down to get
to the patch on level 3. Slide right to smash yet another row. Do the same thing over, going up
the bottom-left steps and sliding right; except this time, go another patch to the right (the second
patch on the right side of the Gym). Now slide up, step left to the adjacent patch, down, and left
to smash another row. Use the bottom-left steps yet again (by now, you should have noticed the
pattern, although we're almost finished), but slide all the way up until you hit a snowball. Slide
right to smash the final snowball on level 2. You're done! Now all you have to do is use the
bottom-left steps to get back near the entrance and go straight for the Gym Leader!

Candice, the Gym Leader, uses a lv. 38 Snover, a lv. 38

Sneasel, a lv. 40 Medicham, and a lv. 42 Abomasnow.
Defeating her earns you the Icicle Badge, which allows
you to use Rock Climb outside of battle. She'll also give
you TM72 - Avalanche. Now it's time to check out Lake
Acuity.

Lake Acuity

Go back west onto Acuity Lakefront and enter into Lake

Acuity. You'll find Rival and Commander Jupiter by the lake, finishing up a battle and putting
each other down. Commander Jupiter leaves for Team Galactic's headquarters in Veilstone City.
Rival leaves also. Surf to the north-east corner of the lake to pick up TM14 - Blizzard.
Afterwards, fly over to Veilstone City.

Rumble in the Headquarters

The Galactic Veilstone Building (the headquarters) is a

tall, black building located at the north-east section of
Veilstone City. Talk to your old friend (the Galactic
Grunt) outside, and he'll inadvertently leave behind a
Storage Key. You can also pick up a PP Up on the left
side of the building. Go into the warehouse at the north-
west section of the city and unlock the door using your
Storage Key. Pick up the Dusk Stone and go
downstairs, which leads you to the basement of the
Galactic Veilstone Building.

Go straight east and you'll battle a Galactic Grunt, the first of many. Keep on going east, making
sure to pick up the Zinc in the room you pass by. At the end of the hallway, go up the stairs. This
will take you to a room with one Galactic Grunt who won't battle you, but will tell you about the
"warp panels". Continue east up the stairs. In this room, you'll battle a Galatic Grunt and notice
two warp panels. Take the right warp panel to pick up TM49 - Snatch. Then go back and take
the left warp panel, which will take you to a very small room with a single warp panel. Take that
and go up the stairs. Battle the Grunt and take the warp panel on the left. Go downstairs, battle
the Scientist, and head down the stairs. Continue west down the hall, and pick up TM36 - Sludge
Bomb and the Galactic Key. This key will allow you to unlock any locked doors in the
headquarters. Go back to the room where you fought the last Grunt and take the stairs up. Go
west, battle the Galactic Grunt, and pick up a hidden Elixir on the machine at the corner. Follow
the hallway, unlock the door at the end, and pick up TM21 - Frustration. Now, go back up into
the city and enter the actual Galactic Veilstone Building at the north-east section.

Once inside, unlock the door and go up the stairs. Pick

up a hidden Full Heal on the machine and head east to
battle the two Galactic Grunts. Go into the room and
pick up a hidden Ultra Ball on the right machine. Take
the bottom-right warp panel outside the room for a Max
Revive. Go back into that room and take the warp panel
inside. Here, you can heal your Pokemon by sleeping in
the beds. Continue up the stairs and pick up another
hidden Full Heal on the machine. Go to the end of the
hallway and you'll see three warp panels. The middle
warp panel will lead you to an Elixir and the one on the
left will take you to the boss.

Unlock the door and approach the man inside, who is

Galactic Boss Cyrus. After defeating him, he'll give you
a Master Ball. Cyrus will leave for Mt. Coronet and tells
you to the warp panel ahead to save the Legendary Trio.
So, go into the next room and take that warp panel. Go
east and then enter the room. Inside are the Legendary
Trio trapped inside special cages and Commander
Saturn. Defeat him in a battle and you'll be able to free
the Pokemon by pressing the button on the control panel.
After pressing the button, the three Pokemon will float
off, and so will Commander Saturn. To quickly exit the
building, go back to where you battled Cyrus, and take the green warp panel out.

Now you want to intercept Cyrus at Mt. Coronet; go there going east from Oreburgh City onto
Route 207.

Mt. Coronet

Before going, make sure to stock up on lots of Ultra Balls. Also be sure to have lots of Dusk
Balls, which can be found in Pastoria City's Pokemon Mart. The reason is that you'll soon be
catching Dialga/Pakia. In addition, you might need (Super/Max) Repels if you don't want to
encounter wild Pokemon every few steps. You'll also need a Pokemon that knows Rock Climb.
Now fly over to Oreburgh City and head east, entering Mt. Coronet on Route 207.

Surf across the water at the north. Go up the stairs and pick up the Protein. Climb the rocks at
the very east and go up the steps. Pick up the Max Potion at the north and also the hidden Ether
on the small piece of rock nearby. Go all the way south for an Escape Rope. Go north, then
south again. Get outside through the exit temporarily, climb down the rocks, and pick up an
Iron. Go back into the mountain and go as far north as you can. Cross the bridge and go south
for TM80 - Rock Slide. Go north for a Revive. Now head east to get to the lower level and go
inside the cave opening. Go up the steps and you'll be surrounded by three steps on all sides.
Take the one on the right for a hidden Max Revive on the southern-most rock. Go back and go
north, where you'll battle a Galactic Grunt. Go west and pick up the hidden Super Repel on the
corner rock. Fight the Grunt and exit through the south.

Climbing to the Peak

Now you're outside in a snowy environment. The goal

now is to climb to the top of Mt. Coronet. Go east, north,
and climb the rocks. If you go east into the cave opening,
you can go straight up the steps for a hidden Ultra Ball.
Smash the rock at the bottom-left corner and pick up the
hidden PP Up on the rock that's revealed. Go outside,
head west, then south (not through the grassy area). Push
the boulder out of your way and continue west. Smash
the rock along the way and pick up the hidden Max
Potion. Head north and go into the cave opening. Back
inside, go straight and climb the rocks. Battle the
Galactic Grunt, smash the rock near him, and pick up the hidden Revive. There's also a hidden
Ether on a northern rock. Go east, battle the Grunt, and go south a bit to pick up a hidden
Escape Rope. Head out again by going east.

Go all the way north for a hidden Rare Candy on the single rock. Go south a bit and go down
the steps. Check out the cave opening to battle some Galactic Grunts and pick up a few hidden
items, including a Rare Candy hidden in one of the rocks in the lowest level. You won't be able
to go into the cave opening blocked by the Galactic Grunt. After they leave later, however, you
may go inside to pick up TM02 - Dragon Claw. After that, get out of this cave area.
From the outside, climb the rocks westward and head west. You'll find a TinyMushroom hidden
on a rock and a Big Mushroom on the northern-most level. You'll soon see another cave
opening, which you should enter. On the second rock, you'll find another TinyMushroom. Keep
going east and head up the steps. Battle the Galactic Grunt and pick up the hidden Max Potion
behind her. If you go south as far as you can, you'll be able to pick up a hidden Stardust on a
rock. Fight the Grunt and head west up the steps. As you go north from here, you'll battle one
last Grunt before finally reaching the peak of Mt. Coronet.

Spear Pillar

At the top, you'll battle two Galactic Grunts before you

get to the final challenge. Walking forward, you'll find
Commander Cyrus, Commander Mars, and Commander
Jupiter all in one spot! Commander Cyrus will summon
Dialga (in Pokemon Diamond)/Palkia (in Pokemon
Pearl). As the beast comes out, you'll see some
impressive animation sequences. After Cyrus is done
talking, walk forward and Commander Mars will
challenge you to a battle. Suddenly, Rival comes over
and gets into battle stance with Commander Jupiter. A
challenging double battle will ensue (challenging mainly
because Rival's Pokemon doesn't seem to help much). After defeating the two of them, Rival will
heal your Pokemon and you'll observe Dialga/Palkia forming a galaxy as instructed by Cyrus.
Luckily, the Legendary Trio will arrive to mess up his plans. Furious, Cyrus will battle you one-
on-one with some pretty powerful Pokemon. After defeating him, the Team Galactic will leave,
and Professor Rowan and Dawn will come. Professor
Rowan tells you to help Dialga/Palkia out and the way to
do that is to capture it (or defeat it)! The time has come...

Before going for Dialga/Pearl, save your game! Also,

note that you should NOT use your Master Ball. This
Pokemon is easier to capture than other legendaries in the game. Dialga/Palkia is at lv. 47 and it's
very strong. Dialga is a Steel/Dragon-type Pokemon and Palkia is a Water/Dragon-type
Pokemon. Try to get its HP as low as possible and throw Ultra Balls and Dusk Balls at it (while
listening to the wonderful background music). Once you have captured it, Professor Rowan will
come over to praise you on your incredible feat. Afterwards, go all the way north to pick up
either the Adamant Orb (Diamond) or Lustrous Orb (Pearl), which powers up Dialga and
Palkia, respectively.

Now, you'll be able to catch the Legendary Trio by re-visiting the three lakes. Be sure to have
plenty of Dusk Balls, since these are the best types of Balls to use on these legendaries.

Mesprit at Lake Verity

Surf to the south-west section to pick up TM38 - Fire

Blast. Then, surf to the center of the lake and go into the
cave. Inside, you'll see Mesprit. Press "A" against it and
you'll see a picture of it, which will be logged in your
PokeDex. Unfortunately, it'll fly away immediately.
Professor Rowan then comes running over to tell you to
use the Marking Map on your Poketch to track
Mesprit's location. Like the Legendary Beasts of
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal, you'll have to walk in the
grassy areas where Mesprit is detected in hopes of
encountering it. Note that if you encounter it, Mesprit
will flee immediately after you make any move. So, if you want to capture it, you probably
should prevent it from fleeing, using a move such as Mean Look.

Azlef at Lake Valor

Surf to the south-east section to pick up TM25 -

Thunder. Then, surf to the center of the lake and go into
the cave. Unlike Mesprit, Azlef will actually battle you;
in other words, you can capture it right now! However,
be careful, since this Pokemon is quite strong (lv. 50
with high damaging moves) and harder to catch than
Dialga/Palkia.

Uxie at Lake Acuity

If you haven't done so already, surf to the north-east

section to pick up TM14 - Blizzard. Once again, go into
the cave at the center of the lake. Inside, you'll be able to
catch the lv. 50 Uxie.
After all of that, we shall continue through the game. You only have one more Gym and the Elite
4 to take care of before the end of this wonderful game (of course, there's lots more stuff to do
afterwards). Fly over to Pastoria City and go east, past the hotel. When you're on Valor
Lakefront, continue east past the part that was previously blocked by a fat guy, and you'll arrive
on Route 222.

Route 222

There are tons of trainers to battle on Route 222, many of them optional. This is because there is
a fork in the route. The northern fork has more trainers that you'll be forced to battle with, while
the southern fork has optional Fishermen. Take either, or both, since both forks eventually
combine. On the north side, you can get a whole bunch of Berries at the beginning. Other than
battling trainers, you'll be able to pick up a Honey, a hidden Ultra Ball, and a Carbos (very east
side of the northern fork after cutting a tree). Also, talk to the person facing south for TM56 -
Fling. At the end of the south side, smash the rock and go onto the raised area to pick up a
hidden Honey. If you surf east a little and get back on land, you can pick up a hidden Big
Mushroom.

The forks soon combine and you'll arrive at Sunyshore City.

Solar Powered!

Once you get to Sunyshore City, you will be approached

by a red-haired man. He turns out to be Flint, one of the
Elite Four. He wants you to defeat the Gym Leader in a
hot battle so it'll make him enthusiastic about battling
again (he's currently too good for the few challengers he
gets, and is bored of winning).

To get to certain areas in this city, you'll have to use to

large solar panel roads. Take the stairs up and go all the
way east. Go down the stairs to pick up a Thunderstone.
If you feel like exploring, get back onto the solar panel
road and go north, then a bit south. Here, you'll find the Pokemon Mart and the Sunyshore Mart,
where you can buy Seals for your Balls. Otherwise, go south-east into the Vista Lighthouse. Talk
to the Gym Leader inside to make him go back to his Gym. Prepare for your final Gym battle
and head over to the north-west section of the city to get to the Gym.

Electrifying Experience

Upon entering the Gym, you'll see the marvelous result

of the Gym Leader's renovation: a gear puzzle with red,
green, and blue switches. The green switch rotates a gear
90 degrees counter-clockwise, the blue switch rotates a
gear 90 degrees clockwise, and the red switch rotates a gear 180 degrees clockwise. Gears that
rotate will rotate any other gears attached to it, including vertical gears that harness bridges.

Once you enter the Gym, step on the right green switch one time and step on the left green
switch one time. Follow the path to battle the trainer and go to the next room. Remember, if you
ever mess up with the sequence, you can always go to the previous room and come back for the
gears to reset. Now, in the second room, step on the blue switch three times. Go up the stairs on
the left side, follow the path and step on the blue switch once. Step on the green switch, go to the
right side, and go up the stairs. Proceed to the third room. Step on the right red switch once, the
left red switch once, and go up along the left side. Step on the green switch once twice and move
over to the right side. Step on the blue switch once, go up, and then go all the way down. Step
once on the first red switch you stepped on. Now go back up the right side to get to the Gym
Leader.

Volkner, so called the "top Gym Leader in Sinnoh", uses a lv. 46 Raichu, a lv. 47 Ambipom, a
lv. 47 Octillery, and a lv. 49 Luxray. After his defeat, Volkner seems very happy! He'll give you
your eighth and final badge: the Beacon Badge. It allows you to use Waterfall (which you
haven't gotten yet) outside of battle. He'll also give you TM57 - Charge Beam. Now it's on to
the Pokemon League!

Go to the north of the city, where you'll meet Jasmine, a Gym Leader in the Johto Region. She'll
give you HM07 - Waterfall. Now surf north onto Route 223.

Route 223

Route 223 is a sea route that will take you north towards
Victory Road. If you go along the left side of the route,
you should find a small opening to the left, near a
Swimmer. Go inside and go north to pick up TM18 -
Rain Dance. Keep surfing north and you will walk onto
a shallow area. Battle the Sailor and go north a bit to
pick up a Pearl. Now, go to the west side of the large
rock and continue north. Use Waterfall to get up the
huge waterfall you see. Go into the Pokemon Center to
heal your Pokemon and enter Victory Road.\

Victory Road

Victory Road is a long cave containing powerful trainers, tough wild Pokemon, and interesting
mazes. Almost all the Pokemon you encounter here, both wild and trained, are leveled in the
high 40s. To begin, go straight north across the bridge and climb down the rocks. Battle the
Psychic at the corner and go north a little bit to pick up TM41 - Torment. Go to the south-east
corner to pick up a hidden Ultra Ball on the rock. Now climb back up the rocks where you came
down from and go east across the bridge. Head down the steps, head north, battle the Birdkeeper,
and continue north across the bridge to pick up a Full Heal. Climb back up the stairs and keep
going north across the bridge. Climb down the rocks and head all the way west. Go up the steps
and go north. After battling the trainer, keep going north until you hit the dead end. Pick up a
hidden Max Elixir on the rock. Go back south a bit and go west up the stairs, leading you to
another area.

In this area, you'll be surrounded by a variety of rocks.

Go west by smashing the rock and pushing the boulder.
Go to the corner to pick up a hidden Full Restore on the
wall. Go back near the entrance of this area and head
south by smashing the rocks. Push the boulders out of
your way and continue west. After battling the trainer,
push the left boulder down, smash the rock on the other
side, push that boulder back up again, and go east. You'll
come up three boulders. Push away the top boulder,
battle the Veteran, and head down the steps.

Follow the bridge east and climb down the rocks. Go north, east, battle the Blackbelt, and go
down the steps at the end. In this area, surf on the water and battle the Psychic on the narrow
strip of land. Surf across the south-eastern body of water, pick up the hidden Pearl on the rock,
and head up the stairs for a double battle. Surf all the way west, go up the steps, and pick up a
Rare Candy. Go back to the two trainers you just fought and go all the way north. You'll be able
to battle a trainer who's pacing back and forth. Go up the tiny waterfall and continue east. Go
down the waterfall and pick up TM59 - Dragon Pulse. Go back up the waterfall and battle the
Dragon Tamer on land. Go south-west and up the steps, picking up the Big Mushroom hidden
on the rock across from it if you wish.

In this area, first head south-west to pick up a Razor

Claw. Go back to where the old man stands and go up
the steps and follow the path until you reach a fat guy
blocking a cave entrance. Pick up the Zinc near him.
Now go back to battle to old man and go south until you
hit the ledge (don't jump over). Climb the rocks on the left, go west, go up the steps, push the
boulders (push the ones on the side before pushing the one in the middle), and pick up TM79 -
Dark Pulse. Go back and climb the rocks on the right side to continue. Battle the Dragon Tamer
and head north out Victory Road.

You've finally arrived at the Pokemon League!

Pokemon League - The Pinnacle of Trainerdom

Once outside of Victory Road, head north up the large

waterfall, and you'll arrive at the Pokemon League.
Inside the building, you'll face the Elite Four in battles to
put your all the training you've done to the test. Before
you approach the person blocking the doorway, heal
your Pokemon and stock up on items. A PC is
downstairs on the right side if you need to switch
Pokemon or anything. Once you're absolutely ready, go
up to the person blocking the doorway and Rival will
come over to battle you. He's much stronger now than
before, so be careful. After defeating him, talk to the
person blocking the door, and he'll let you in to battle the first of the Elite Four after verifying all
your Gym Badges.

I. INTRODUCTION
=============================================================================

Welcome to my first FAQ for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. This game is the best
of
the series in my opinion, and it's definitely the largest. You say you spent
80
hours on Pokemon Emerald? Well prepare to spend twice that on this one. After
seeing the numerous topics asking the same old questions on the Diamond &
Pearl
boards, I decided it was time to write a FAQ. I hope this will cut down on the
number of questions that get asked repeatedly, and may it help you in your
quest to become a "Pokemon Master"!

III. SIDEQUEST EVENTS
=============================================================================
==

---------------------
[01] National Pokedex
---------------------
The national dex is a little bit harder to obtain then it was in
Emerald/FR/LG.
To start, you need to SEE the first 150 Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokedex. This is
quite easy to do, as you should have already seen most of them by the time you
get to the Elite Four. If you're wondering how you can find the legendary not
found in your version (Dialga/Palkia), it is quite simple. After you beat or
catch Dialga/Palkia, return to Celestic Town and go into the large house at
the top. When you talk to the woman inside, she will tell you about the other
legendary Pokemon and show you a picture of it. This count as it being "seen".

Once you have seen all 150 Pokmon, return to Sandgem town and speak with the
professor. He will take a look your Pokedex and note that you have completed
it. After this brilliant deduction, Professor Oak will come in through the
door and also take a look at your Pokedex. Seeing that you have completed the
Sinnoh Pokedex, he gives you the National Pokedex and tells of you several new
places you can now visit. He also explains how you can now send your Pokemon
from the previous GBA games to Diamond & Pearl by visiting the Pal Park!

---------------------
[02] Lost Room Key
---------------------
At the Valor Lakefront you will find a woman who has lost her room key. The
key
is hidden on the left side of the ground above the reception building. When
you
return her key, she'll thank you and run inside her room. Follow her and talk
to her again for a free Lavaridge Cookie.

---------------------
[03] Wayward Cave
---------------------
Wayward Cave is located at the very back of Route 206. The entire cave is
pitch black except for a small circle of light around you. I'd recommend you
get the TM "Flash" before attempting this area, as it will make it much
easier.
There are a few items in the cave, you can find the list below. Anyways, at
the
very back of the cave you will find a trainer named Mira. She will ask you to
escort her to the entrance. You cannot use Dig or an Escape Rope to get there.
Once you get to the entrance she will thank you and run off. So what do you
get
for this boring quest? When you visit the Battle Tower, Mira will team up with
you in the double battles!

/--------------------\
Rare Candy
Escape Rope
TM32 (Double Team)
\--------------------/

There is also a hidden entrance to the cave a few steps to the left of the
normal entrance. If you enter this way, you will find an area not normally
accessible. Inside you will find several bike ramps leading to items. The
complete list of items can be found below.

/-------------------\
Revive
Elixir
Grip Claw
TM26 (Earthquake)
\-------------------/

---------------------
[04] Old Chateau
---------------------
The Old Chateau is located in Eternia Forest. In the north area of the forest
you will find several trees you can cut. Behind these trees is the chateau. In
the chateau there are a couple items (See below) and some ghosts. However the
true secret becomes available when you have the National Dex and have beaten
the Champion. If you return to the upper floor and view the TV at night, you
will encounter the Pokemon Rotom. Be careful, as it's at Lv15.

/-------------------\
Antidote
Dark Plate
Old Gateau
TM90 (Substitute)
\-------------------/

---------------------
[05] Solaceon Ruins
---------------------
The ruins are the hiding place for the Unown in this game. For those that
don't know, there is a specific Unown for each letter of the english alphabet.
Inside the Solaceon Ruins you will find some glyphs on the wall. They are
written in Unown. They translate into a set of directions. You need to take
the stairs in the following order:

Top-Right, Bottom-Left, Top-Right, Top-Left, Top-Left, Bottom-Left

If you follow the directions correctly, you will reach a secret room. In the
room you will find the following items.

/-------------\
Nugget
Rare Candy
Mind Plate
Odd Incense
\-------------/

---------------------
[06] Pokemon Mansion
---------------------
You can visit the mansion any time after seeing your Rival in Hearthome City.
To get there go south of Hearthome City onto Route 212. Inside the mansion
you will find several items. Those items are:

/----------------\
Great Ball
Soothe Bell
Burn Heal
TM87 (Swagger)
\----------------/

In the back of the mansion there is a trophy garden. You can find several
Pokemon in the grass, they are listed below:

------------------
#025 Pikachu
#172 Pichu
#315 Roselia
#397 Staravia
#402 Kricketune
\------------------/

Once you obtain the National Dex, return to the mansion and speak with the
owner. He will tell you of a rare Pokemon that can be found in the garden.
The Pokemon will change everyday. Up to two rare Pokemon can be in the
garden, and everyday you speak with him, one of them will change. The
complete list of possible encounters is below:

#439 Mime Jr.
#440 Happiny
\------------------/

---------------------
[07] Fuego Ironworks
---------------------
The Fuego Ironworks can be accessed any time after beating the fifth gym
leader. You can find it by using Surf on Route 205. There is a Max Potion
hidden near the building, and some rare wild Pokemon in the grass. Inside
the building you will have to fight several battles. You can also find the
following items:

/---------------------\
Burn Heal
Rock Incense
Fire Stone (x2)
TM35 (Flamethrower)
\---------------------/

If you are having trouble finding the second Fire Stone, you need to talk to
the man standing near the furnace to obtain it.

---------------------
[08] Iron Island
---------------------
You can get to Iron Island by taking a ship from Canalave City. Make sure to
only bring five Pokemon with you, as your about to obtain another one. Once
you arrive at the island, enter the cave and take the stairs on the right.
After several battles you'll take an elevator and be presented with another
set of stairs. This time you should the left. At the bottom of the stairs
you will find a trainer named Riley who wants you to escort him to the bottom
floor. Battle through a couple more trainers and you will run into 2 Galactic
Grunts. After defeating them, Riley will give you a Riolu Egg for your help.

[10] Honey Pokemon
---------------------
Ever notice those brown trees that are mixed in with all the green ones? Well
those trees have the ability to attract certain Pokemon! How would one go
about doing such a thing, you might ask. It's quite simple. After you rescue
the old man who is being hassled by the two Galactic Grunts in Florama Town,
he will start selling you Honey. If you go up to any brown tree and press A on
is, it will ask you if you wish to spread Honey on the tree. Once you've
spread
Honey on a tree, wait about 12 hours and come back. The tree will be shaking,
and when you press A on it you will encounter a Pokemon! However, if you wait
more than 24 hours after spreading the Honey, the Pokemon will be gone. A lot
of the time the Pokemon you encounter will be common, but there are some
unique
Pokemon that can only be found on brown trees. These Pokemon are listed below.

/-----------------\
Honey Pokemon
-----------------
#190 Aipom

* "chain of events" to be completed before they will appear. These *
* Pokemon cannot be caught through normal means otherwise. *
*************************************************************************

----------------
[#425] Drifloon
----------------
If you visit the Valley Windworks on a Friday after defeating Team Galactic,
you will find Drifloon standing outside. He can be found there all day.

----------------
[#442] Spiritomb
----------------
While digging in the Sinnoh Underground you may find a Odd Keystone. You
also can find one from the Blackbelt at the end Route 208. After you have
one, take it and place it in the Spirit Well on Route 209. Then you must
talk to 32 friends while you have 2 or more Nintendo DS systems connected
in the Sinnoh Underground. After doing this, you can find Spiritomb at the
Spirit Well. This sidequest can be attempted as many times as you wish.
However, you need to talk to 32 friends every time. Also, you can use the
same friend over and over, but you must exit and re-enter the Underground
every time for it to count.

----------------
[#446] Munchlax
----------------
Munchlax can only be found by putting honey on a brown tree and waiting 12
hours. The tree in Valley Windworks and the tree to the south-east of
Eternia Forest seem to have higher encounter rates.

***************
* Legendaries *
*************************************************************************
* What makes a Pokemon be considered "legendary"? That's quite easy to *
* answer. Any Pokemon that is spoken of in a myth or legend in-game is *
* a legendary Pokemon. They usually involve long complicated processes *
* to catch them, and are usually very powerful and hard to tame. This *
* section will explain how to obtain those who a believed to be myths. *
*************************************************************************

----------------
[#480] Uxie
----------------
After battling and calming Dialga or Palkia, the legendary Pokemon Uxie
will appear in Lake Acuity.

----------------
[#481] Mesprit
----------------
After battling and calming Dialga or Palkia, the legendary Pokemon Mesprit
will appear in Lake Verity. Once you go to battle him, he will runs off.
It can then be found randomly in grassy patches on the map. You can check
his current location in the Poketch.

----------------
[#482] Azelf
----------------
After battling and calming Dialga or Palkia, the legendary Pokemon Azelf
will appear in Lake Valor.

----------------
[#485] Heatran
----------------
After obtaining the National Dex, you can visit Stark Mountain. There you
will team up with a trainer. Once you reach the end, he will take the Magma
Rock and leave. Go to the Survival Area and he will be in one of the houses.
After you talk to him again, he will leave. You can now return to the mountain
and find Heatran where the Magma Rock was.

----------------
[#486] Regigigas
----------------
To find Regigigas, you must tranfer the 3 Regis from the GBA games. Once
you have completed that, you will find Regigigas in the temple to the
north of Snowpoint City. In order to enter the temple and catch Regigigas
you need to have the three regis in your team.

----------------
[#487] Giratina
----------------
After obtaining the National Dex, you can visit an area called the
Turnback Cave. It can be found east of Route 214. At the end of the cave,
you will find Giratina.

******************
* Pokemon Ranger *
*************************************************************************
* One of the few DS games whos novelties were actually used quite well. *
* The spinoff game "Pokemon Ranger" had enjoyable gameplay and a decent *
* story to boot. Once you beat the game you were given the ability to *
* enter in a code to take part in a secret event. By completing this *
* event, you will unlock the little blue secret called.....Manaphy! *
*************************************************************************

----------------
[#489] Phione
----------------
To obtain Phione, all you need to do is breed Manaphy and hatch the egg that
is produced. Inside the egg will be Phione.

----------------
[#490] Manaphy
----------------
To obtain Manaphy, you must complete the event in Pokemon Ranger. After that
you will be able to transfer an egg to Diamond & Pearl. You can find the egg
at any Pokemart (A man in green will have it). Hatch the egg to get Manaphy.

*******************
* Nintendo Events *
*************************************************************************
* Ah, the eternally hated "Nintendo Events". For some reason Nintendo *
* thought it would be funny to force fans to drive hundreds of miles to *
* obtain a special item that would allow them to obtain a single rare *
* Pokemon. What would drive them to deprive fans of getting the Pokemon *
* through in-game methods? One word...MONEY. *
*************************************************************************
----------------
[#488] Cresselia
----------------
After obtaining the National Dex, if you talk to the family in the house
above the sailor by the boat in Canalave Town, they will tell you about an
area called Full Moon Island. Talk to the Sailor and he will take you there.
On the island you will find Cresselia. Talk to it and it will fly off. It can
then be found randomly in grassy patches on the map. You can check its current
location in the Poketch.

----------------
[#491] Darkrai
----------------
Nintendo will release the item Membership Pass at an event. Once you obtain
this item, go to Canalave City and you will be able to access the motel that
was previously locked. Spend the night at the motel and you will wake up on
New Moon Island. You will find Darkrai at the back of the island. After
catching or beating him, you will wake up and leave the motel.

----------------
[#492] Shaymin
----------------
Nintendo will release the item Oak's Letter at an event. Once you obtain this
item, go to Route 224. You will find Proffesor Oak at the end of the route. He
will ask you who you give your thanks to. Give him any answer and Shaymin will
appear and extend the route. At the end of the route you will find Shaymin in
a field of flowers waiting for you.

----------------
[#493] Arceus
----------------
Nintendo will release the item Azure Flute at an event. Once you obtain this
item, go to the area of Mt. Coronet where you battled Dialga or Palkia. Go to
the symbol between the pillars and use the flute. Some stairs will appear that
will lead to the area where Arceus resides.

VI. Pal Park
=============================================================================
==
The Pal Park can be accessed on Route 221 after you've obtained the National
Pokedex. It allows you to transfer the Pokemon you've caught in R/S/E/FR/LG to
your current game. However, you can only use game cartridges of the same
language and region to transfer.

Put the cartridge in Slot-2 of your DS and start up Diamond/Pearl. Now go to

the Pal Park on Route 221, talk to the Park Ranger and choose 6 Pokemon from
your boxes. He will give you some special Poke Balls (Called "Park Balls") to
capture them with. Thats right, you must recatch your old Pokemon. Not to
worry
though, as these balls have a 100% capture rate and your Pokemon will not run
once you encounter it. So now you need to go and find the Pokemon! There are
many different areas to search, but the Pokemon will usually be in the area
which fits its elemental type best. Some of the Pokemon are quite hard to
find,
so it may be quite frustrating. Once you finally encounter the Pokemon, all
you
have to do is throw the Park Ball to capture it. They will be at the exact
same
level and will have the same stats, moves, EVs/IVs and hold item. They will
also be "Shiny" if you transferred a shiny Pokemon. If you catch all of your
Pokemon within a certain time limit, the Pal Park ranger will give you a
special berry as a congratulations.

VII. Frequently Asked Questions
=============================================================================
==

Q: How many Pokemon are in Diamond & Pearl?

A: There are 493 total Pokemon in the game. However, only 445 can be caught
between the two games. The other 48 must be transferred through Pal Park.

Q: Which version is better, Diamond or Pearl?

A: It all comes down to choice. The only difference is the exclusive Pokemon,
so take a look at the lists I provide and choose for yourself. Personally,
I
like Diamond better as it has Scyther, Tyranitar and Murkrow.

Q: Is there a way to clone Pokemon/Items in the game?

A: There was in the early Japanese releases, but Nintendo fixed it. There has
recently been a glitch found that allows Pokemon and their held items to be
cloned. It involves using the GTS.
Q: I heard that if you beat the Elite Four ten times, fly to Lake Valor and
run around for 20 minutes, you will encounter the Pokemon Pikablu!
A: There is no Pikablu. The rumor of Pikablu was started when images of Marill
first surface on the internet before Gold & Silver's release. If you want
to
catch a Marill, then visit the Great Marsh.

Q: I got the Pokedex and saw my mom, but I still can't leave Sandgem Town!
A: You need to visit your rival's house first. Then visit your mom.

Q: Where do I find the Pokemon _____ at?

A: This is not a Pokemon location guide, so I can't answer that question. Also
please do not email me with these questions either.

Q: What is a "shiney" Pokemon?

A: Every Pokemon has a alternated colored version that can be found. The
chance
of encountering a shiney is 1/8192. When they are send out in battle, they
will sparkle for a few seconds. Thus the term "shiney".

Q: I found an error in your FAQ, can I email you about it?

A: I'm afraid not. This is the final version and I've removed my email due to
all the damn gaming questions I kept getting.

Q: Pokemon sucks, and only schoolgirls play it!

A: That's not a question...but ok. It seems to me like you need to stop
hanging
out with the "cool" crowd, and start making your own unbiased decisions.

Q: In the anime, Ash managed to catch...*snip*

A: The anime doesn't follow the games so I can't answer that. Also, 4kids cuts
out so much that sometimes things don't make sense.

Q: So I heRd u lEik mudkIpz!11

A: Mudkips?! I LOOOOVVVVVEEE MUDKIPS! ^_^

Q: You made up all these questions, didn't you?

A: Errr, maybe...

Thanks to all the pogeymans players in our community!

-Al Gore
For creating the internet. Hats off to you good sir!

spending
8 hours writing this FAQ and then revising it because it wouldn't be accepted.
Although, it's not like I really had anything better to do...

-CJayC
For creating and maintaining the best videogame site on the internet. If there
was no GameFAQs, I probably wouldn't have bothered to write this guide.
