Reaction Paper on Special Education

Topics presented by Group 1, 2 & 3

Learning the definition and discussing its scope, we’ve come into a great
realization how special education, also known as inclusive education, became relevant
and valuable for people with specific incapability and disability. It a program designed to
address the needs of the said person in terms of academic, skill development and social
conduct. Moreover, it does not only provide awareness on them but onto those that
surround them that lives a normal life (people without incapability and disability). Laws
are given to protect them from discrimination, abuse and any unprecedented
circumstance that involves superiority over them. These laws include Batas Pambansa
Bilang 232 and 344. None can say that the government was blind with their existence
as programs were made for them over a number of years. These programs allow them
to experience the same activities done by a normal person yet some rules and
techniques are omitted, such a basketball for those without legs and other activities in
the livelihood industry. This promotes the skills they possessed neglecting the idea that
they different from the others. – Beryl Joy C. Depeña
Even though Inclusive education has many benefits, we cannot deny the fact that
it has also lots of obstacles and barriers to learning, and with the participation of
learners vulnerable to exclusion, we all know that we are all lacking for its successful
implementation to remove those kinds of barrier. Environmental, curricular attitude and
communication barrier are the major hindrances that interfere with the effective
incorporation of inclusive education for those who are special, gifted and disabled.
According to one reporter in group 2 says that it is very challenging to have those kinds
of barriers but as a teacher you must need to have proper and right practice in order for
you to handle any kinds of hard situation in the future regarding to those students who
have disabilities. You as a teachers must be responsible for you action and decisions
because it may affect your students to the point that it will test your patient on how far
you can handle difficult situations. – Antoniette Mark A. Tabanao
Teachers therefore incorporate best teaching methods in regards to student’s
diversity and without discrimination. Teaching in inclusive classroom is not only requires
tons of patience, it is also requires responsibility despite of the student’s differences we
should give an equal and interactive learning to our students. The things that I realize
about the discussion which is challenges of inclusive education is that first, we must
give a full support and attention to our students with special needs. Most importantly,
the government should provide more programs for them in regards to their social status
because according to one of the presenter of group 2 is that the government has
programs but few of them can avail because of their social status. We must create an
equal program for them, so that through this we can provide a maximized and
conducive learning for them similar to normal students. As future educator, must play a
big role as a medium in incorporating the programs given by the government for our
students with special needs. We should create teaching methods or techniques that
incorporates knowledge to them that is similar on what kind of knowledge that a typical
or normal student in the classroom. – Shelaine G. Tayo
Lastly, the benefits of inclusive education are all children with special differences
are still able to be part of the community as they always are. With inclusive education,
they were given the chance to feel the sense of belongingness in the community and
were accepted and treated well by those that are normal. Inclusive education provides
better learning strategies that allow them to learn at the means suitable for their
disability. Thus, they will be ignorant as what other think they are. Inclusive education is
really helpful to the special person because they can help to be a better, to achieve the
dreams or goals of every individual and not think that they’re just a person with disability
but that they have unique abilities and skills that can help other people too.
