(2-year Contract)

About FNTI (First Nations Technical Institute)

Since establishment in 1985, over 4000 students have graduated successfully from FNTI with
certificates, diplomas and degrees, granted in partnership with Ontario’s Colleges and
Universities. An Indigenous post-secondary institution, FNTI offers programs targeted at
Indigenous learners across a wide range of post-secondary disciplines including aviation,
health, business, and public administration. FNTI delivers programming locally through its main
campus in Tyendinaga on Ontario’s beautiful Bay of Quinte, as well as in numerous community
locations throughout Ontario.

The Academic Dean works closely with the Vice-President of Academic, and provides vision
and leadership through a broad range of services and coordination that support academic
program evaluation and development for the successful implementation of FNTI’s college and
university programs.

The Academic Dean is innovative and effective in working towards continuous improvements
in academic quality, program health and program growth, and plays a critical role developing
and responding to the needs and demands of their programs. They provide management
support and leadership in all aspects of their work including engaging staff, change
management and fostering innovation. They contribute to institutional success through
collaboration, striving for excellence in operational efficiency and enhancing learner success.

Qualifications:

• Graduate degree in administration or in a related or relevant field, with at least six years
related management experience; or a combination of equivalent education, training and
experience
• Experience working within an Indigenous setting or educational setting is a definite
asset.
• Excellent organizational skills and time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to think strategically and analytically, with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated coaching and facilitating skills.
• Excellent project management skills.
• Commitment to equity and diversity.
• Ability to use sound judgement and discretion, with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exercise tact and discretion.
• Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team, taking
initiative within set parameters.
• Proficient in computer applications including MS Office 365, email, internet and other
relevant technologies.
• Ability to produce quality written documentation for reports and proposals.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including building community relations and working with
students.
• Proven presentation skills, both oral and written.
• Knowledge in the field of Indigenous post-secondary education.
• Ability to work flexible hours when required.
• Considerable lived, practical and relevant working experience of Indigenous issues
• Demonstrated knowledge of working with Indigenous communities and organizations
• Ability to build effective relationships in a cross-cultural setting, specifically as it relates
to Indigenous cultures.
• Valid “G” Ontario driver’s licence and willingness and ability to travel
• Some or all of the duration of the contract may require the successful candidate to work
from home (per the Working Remotely policy)
