I. OBJECTIVES

A. CONTENT STANDARD: Inferring Useful Products that can be formed out of


Local, Recyclable Solid/Liquid Materials.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners are able to understand that there


are useful products that can be formed out of local
recyclable materials around.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES: The learners uses local, recyclable materials


found in the community. (S5MT-lh-i-4)

IV. PROCEDURES

A. REVIEW: Name Examples of recyclable materials that can be found in school and
Community.

B. MOTIVATION: Picture Analysis

The learners will analyze the following:


1. What materials is used to make the finished product in the picture?
2. Aside from plant pot, what other product can be made out of empty
water container/bottle?
3. Do you believe in the saying “there is cash in every trash”? How?

C. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON


There are many different reasons and advantages of recycling old materials to turn
into new, similar products. Recycling benefits relate to many different areas, some of
which could greatly improve the air we breathe, and the environment. It can also help us
to earn money just like what they said “May pera sa basura”.
Video Analysis – The student will be watching 2 short video clip which is about
recyclable solid materials can be formed into another product in which can help us to
lessen buying new product and earn money from the local recyclable materials.

The teacher will let the student analyze and understand the video. The students are free
to ask question regarding the video that they’ve watch to make it clearer and explain it
carefully for elaboration.

D. DISCUSSING NEW CONCEPTS AND PRACTICING NEW SKILLS #1


1. What have you learned on the video that you’ve watch?
2. Did you notice that there are so many things that we can do on the solid waste
materials on our environment?
3. How can recycling help us?

RECYCLE – means to make something new from something that has been used
before.
–Recyclable solid materials can be made into useful products

Example:
1. PLASTIC DRINKING BOTTLES – can be made into flower vase or pots
2. JUICE WRAPPERS – can be made into bags
3. OLD NEWSPAPER and MAGAZINES – can be made into pencil holder
4. USED CLOTHES – can be recycled into rags and throw pillows.

Group Activity:
Preparation
1. Group pupils into 4 groups
2. Each group will be given activity sheet that they will answer
3. Read the questions carefully and answer the question and do the task
for 5 mins.
4. The group will sing or yell their jingle if they are done.
Activity Proper
TRASH TO CASH (“May Pera sa Basura”)

Group 1 will answer the following questions and make a table

1. What local recyclable materials did you consider on your list?

2. Why are these material common to your place?


3. Can these materials be turned or made to other useful products?
How?
4. Do you think is it possible to turn these trash to cash? How?

Group 2 will make a slogan and answer the following question:


1. How did they come up with their slogan and explain the
concept.
2. What would be the benefits of recycling materials and can
these materials be turned or made to other useful
products? How?
3. In what way they can convert local recyclable materials
into cash?

Group 3 will Draw a recycled material


1. Do you think is it possible to turn recycled material to cash?
How?
Group 4 will make a poster and answer the following question:
1. How did they come up with their slogan and explain.
2. What would be the benefits of recycling materials and
can these materials be turned or made into useful
Products? How?
3. In what way they can convert local recyclable materials
into cash?

G. APPLICATION:
Your family business here in Taytay Rizal is Sewing Clothes and Garments. The
name of your business is “Tianggean sa taytay RTW Clothing”. You have observed that
many cloths that are used and cut are just being disposed on trash. How are these
materials can be recycled?
H. GENERALIZATION
What did you learn from our lesson?

Recycling is important. If we want to preserve this planet for our future


generation. Recycling is good for the environment. It begins at home. We can
create something in recycling, it can even be converted into cash meaning there
is really Cash on Trash.
We should recycle to make the environment clean, to conserve materials,
to save energy, to reduce garbage in landfills and earn money out of local
recyclable materials.
