FILM ANALYSIS

“Flatliners”

Flatliners is a 2017 American science fiction psychological horror film directed by Niels Arden

Oplev and written by Ben Ripley. The film is both a stand-alone sequel to and remake of the 1990 film of

the same name, and stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons. It

follows five medical students who attempt to conduct experiments that produce near-death experiences.

The movie Flatliners best fits with consciousness. Flatliners is about A group of medical students

who decide to literally play with life and death. They put themselves in floating simulation, electronically

generating a near-deathlike state and then coming back to life at the last possible moment. Things get

dangerous when one of the students goes under and his sin comes back with him. When Nelson flatlines

for one minute he experiences a sort of afterlife. He sees a dream of a boy he bullied as a child, Billy

Mahoney. Joe flatlines next, and he experiences a sexy afterlife about past sexual relationships he has

had. David is third to flatline, and he sees a vision of a black girl, Winnie Hicks, that he bullied in grade

school. The three men start to experience hallucinations related to their afterlife visions. Nelson gets beat

up by Billy twice in real life. Joe is engaged to be married, is haunted by his home videos of his sexual

involvements with other women. David finds a hallucinated young Winnie Hicks on a train, and she

verbally taunts him as he taunted her. Rachel decides to flatline next on Halloween, but David tries to

stop the others from giving Rachel their same doom, but she is already "dead" when he finds her. When

the power goes out, Racheal almost dies, and the men are unable to shock her with the defibrillator

paddles. Fortunately, she survives, but she is haunted by the afterlife visions she had when she was under

which are about her father who committed suicide. They all then realize that their worst sin is haunting
them in real life and try to resolve them by going and apologizing to those people they did badly too. But

for Nelson, his only way to apologize to that person who is died is to go back under. Nelson dies in the

afterlife from the fall, and his friends cannot revive him. But when they almost give up on bringing him

back David does not give up and gives Nelson one more try and luckily they bring him back.

Flatliners is the movie started with the objective of afterlife experiences and how does it feel but

after implementing it ,they realize the negative remark of it and the guilt they are hiding or never

acknowledged about are now haunting them . Good movie not that much thriller but maybe emotional for

the people who believe in sins. Apologize and accept yourself.
