Q1.At a clearance sale, all goods are on sale at 45% discount. If I buy a skirt marked Rs 600, how much
would I need to pay?
Solution :
We have,
MP = 600, Discount% = 45
Therefore, SP = MP

= Rs 330 (2 marks)
Therefore, I need to pay Rs 330 for askirt.

Q2. Find the selling price of a table lamp if a discount of 10% is given on its marked price of Rs.4500.
Solution : Marked price of the table lamp = Rs.4500
Discount given = 10%
10% of 4500 = 450 (1 mark)
Selling price = Marked price – Discount
Selling price = 4500 – 450 = 4050
Q3.A shopkeeper buys a toy for Rs 250 and sells it for Rs 285. Find his gain and gain percent.
Solution :CP of the toy = Rs 250 SP of the toy = Rs 285 Since, SP > CP.
So, there isgain.
Gain = SP - CP
= Rs 285 - Rs 250
= Rs 35 (1.5 marks)

Now, gain % = %

= 14% (1.5 marks)

Hence, gain = Rs 35 and gain % =14%.

Q4.A shopkeeper bought two TV sets at Rs.10,000 each. He sold one at a profit of 10% and the other at a
loss of 10%. Find whether he made an overall profit or loss.
Solution :
Cost price of each TV set = Rs.10,000
One is sold at a profit of Rs. 105.
Profit = 10% 0f 10,000

= =Rs.1000
S.P of 1st TV set = Rs.10,000 + Rs.1000 = Rs.11000
Other T.V. set is sold at a loss of 10%
Loss = 10% of 10,000

= =Rs.1000
S.P of 2nd T.V set = 10,000 - 1000 = Rs.9000
Total C.P of two T.V sets = Rs.10000 + Rs 9000
= Rs.20,000
C.P = S.P

Q5.Simran, a rice merchant purchased 25 bags of rice at Rs. 825 per bag and spent Rs.300 for
transportation. She sold all the 25 bags of rice at Rs.930 per bag. Find the profit earned and the
percentage of profit.
Solution :
Total C.P = cost of 25 bags + transportation
= 25 x 825 + 300
= 20625 + 300
= Rs. 20925
S.P of 25 bags = 25 x 930
= Rs. 23250
Profit = s.p – c.p
= 23250- 20925
= Rs.2325
Profit % = (p/c.p) x 100
= (2325/ 20925) x 100
= 11.1%

Q6.Aman borrow Rs 14,500 at 11% per annum for 3 years at simple interest and Tarun borrows the same
amount at 10% per annum for same time compounded annually. Who pays more interest and by how
much?
Solution :
In case of Aman (S.I)
We have,
P = 14500, R = 11% per annum, T = 3 years

S.I

Therefore, S.I = Rs 4785 In case of

Tarun :(C.I)
We have, P = Rs 14500, R = 10% per annum, T = 3 years
Using formula C.I =

(1/2 mark)

C.I = 4799.50
Therefore, difference between C.I and S.I
= Rs 4799.50 - Rs 4785
= Rs 14.50
Thus Tarun paid more interest by Rs 14.50.
