Automakers will race to appeal to budget–conscious Chinese car

buyers as the industry expands beyond the wealthy coastal cities
in the east, Ford Motor Co’s (F.N) Asia chief said on Tuesday. As
they expand more heavily into central and western China, au-
tomakers can appeal to price–sensitive consumers by offering
multiple vehicles within the same size segment at varying prices,
Joe Hinrichs said. “The growth expected the rest of this decade
in China is largely to come from the central and western parts of
the country which is more value–oriented,” he told reporters at
Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. “You’ll need to serve
those customers differently,” he added. Ford’s plan to introduce
15 new vehicles in China by 2015 began with last month’s launch
of the new Focus. Hinrichs said last month in Beijing that Ford
plans to sell cars priced below the Fiesta, currently their chea-
pest model in Asia with a price ranging from $12.300 to $17.500.

Ford sales in China rose 24 percent in April to 54.881 cehicles,

spurred by string demand for the Focus. Ford makes the Fiesta,
Focus, Mondeo and other cehicles in China in a three–way tie–up
with Chongqing Automobile Co Ltd 000625.SZ and Japan’s Maz-
da Motor Corp (7261.T).

Man shoots colleague in crocodile’s jaws

An Australian crocodile-farm worker has escaped the jaws of

death, a bullet and a crocodile in the space of a few seconds.
Jason Green was attacked by an angry croc while he was wor-
king at the Darwin Crocodile Farm in Australia’s Northern Terri-
tory. Mr Green was one of two men who were collecting crocodile
eggs along a riverbank.

They regularly collect eggs and put them in a special incubator

so that the babies hatch safely. Their skins are sold to the Her-
mes brand to make bags. The female reptile got upset when she
saw Mr Green at her nest and immediately attacked him. His
quick-thinking colleague Zac Fitzgerald saved his life when he
shot the saltwater beast. Mr Green was released from certain
death when the croc let go of him and swam away. Unfortunately,
Fitzgerald fired a second shot which hit Mr Green in the same
arm the crocodile had grabbed.

Mr Green is now recovering in hospital. He needed two opera-

tions on his broken arm; one for the crocodile bite and one for
the bullet wound. Mr Green was extremely lucky he made it to
hospital in time to save his arm. Fortunately for him, a helicopter
was waiting nearby the area that the two workers were collecting
eggs. It took just 25 minutes to transport Green from the remote,
Outback river to the Royal Darwin Hospital.

Jason joked about the attack from his hospital bed. He told his
boss: “I don’t think I’ll be at work for a couple of days.” Jason
thanked his colleague for saving his life, saying: “Thank God he’s
a good shot.” Jason added that he didn’t have any bad feelings
toward the croc. “She only sort of poked her nose out at me,” he
said. The crocodile survived the gun shot and is now back guar-
ding her nest.

The Necktie

Generally speaking, the history of fashion is fairly simple. For

thousands of years, people only wore clothes for functional pur-
poses. (They were cold, so they wore clothes to keep them warm.
They were hot, so they wore clothes to protect them from the
sun.) But after millennia, things changed. Clothing was no lon-
ger worn for functional purposes. Instead, clothing began to be
worn for, well, useless purposes. People began to wear items
of clothing purely for decoration and looks. This continued for
about a thousand years.

But then, about a hundred years ago, the trend reversed. Hu-
mans began to wear clothes for functional purposes once more.
And this trend continues today. As time passes, humans wear
fewer and fewer useless items of clothing. Our outfits today are
far simpler than those of the past.

And I have an important letter that’s coming so can you take the

been walked in a few days so please feed the dog and take him
for a walk. Oh, yeah, and my flowers. Listen I really need you to
water the flowers, my plants inside the house. Don’t worry about
the garden outside the house in the backyard because the lawn
and the flowers in the garden are on an automatic sprinkler sys-
tem so they can get water, but can you water the plants inside
the house? Please don’t forget. I don’t want them to die. OK, and
one last thing.

I’m going to get home really late in a couple days and if it’s pos-
sible can you come to the airport and pick me up? I’m on flight
755 on Delta and I arrive at 11:10 at night, so can you please
come and pick me up? It would be a huge help. Ok, man. Thanks,
buddy. I owe you. See you at the airport!
