OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of Potential hydro
meteorological hazards: Typhoon, Thunderstorm, Flashflood,
Flood, Storm surge, El Niño, La Niña
B. Performance The learners develop a family emergency preparedness plan to
Standards guide them on what to do before, during, and after the occurrence
of events that cause hydro meteorological hazards.
The learners develop proficiency in executing emergency response
plans through safety drills.
C. Learning At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:

Activity Objective: Track and interpret the path of a typhoon from monitoring data.

In the table shown below (Table 6.1-1) is a list of the location coordinates of Typhoon Yolanda
(International name: Haiyan) as it travelled from the Pacific Ocean toward the Philippine Area of
Responsibility. Plot each location on the map provided in Figure 6.1-4.

Procedure:
1. Describe the path of Yolanda while it is in the Pacific Ocean.
2. At which point do you expect the typhoon's path to change? Explain this change in its direction.
3. Explain how the timing of landfall may be estimated from the data.
4. Make a prediction on the timing of the typhoon's landfall? (assume that the typhoon will maintain its
speed at last location and will not change direction before reaching the easternmost landmass - Leyte)
