JLG PC Analyzer
Instructions

Hardware/Software Requirements:
1) PC or laptop computer – (minimum requirements) Windows-98SE, Pentium-II, the ability to load
software onto the PC
2) 1060629 - JLG Interface Cable
3) 4170092 – PC Analyzer Software
4) USB to Serial port adapter cable can be used in conjunction with the JLG Interface Cable
(1060629). Its use is required if your computer does not have a serial port. This adapter is
available at most electronics stores.

Purpose for Procedure:

This procedure will instruct the end user as to the setup and use of the PC JLG Analyzer software.

SETUP: Copying and installing software to your PC

Right click on the ‘Start’ button in the lower left corner of your computer screen and open explore.
Go to the C:\Program Files\ and click: File, New, Folder
Create a folder titled: ‘Analyzer’

Files on CD:

Right click on the Start menu in the lower left corner of the screen. Click explore. Go to the CD-Drive
(usually D:\). Open the #4170092vPX-X.zip file and extract the contents to C:\Program Files\Analyzer.
(The X’s are placeholders for numbers. The actual file name would be something like #4170092vP2-
1.zip.) Explore like before to C:\Program Files\Analyzer\VBAnalyzer. Run the Setup.exe file by double
clicking on it. Go to Installing Files below.

Files on J-Drive:

Go to the J:\Project\Control Systems\PC Analyzer Software, open the #4170092vPX-X.zip file, and extract
the contents to C:\Program Files\Analyzer. (The X’s are placeholders for numbers. The actual file name
would be something like #4170092vP2-1.zip.) Explore like before to C:\Program
Files\Analyzer\VBAnalyzer. Run the Setup.exe file by double clicking on it. Go to Installing Files below.

Installing Files:

Click ‘Ok’ once you are ready to install. Click the large button in the upper left, or change the install
location and then click the large button. The default location is C:\Program Files\Analyzer. Next, click
‘Continue’ or change where a shortcut will be created in your Start Menu for this Analyzer Software. The
default is JLG PC Analyzer 2.1. Click ‘Ok,’ and you are finished.
HARDWARE SETUP

Using 1060629 Cable:

Connect the 1060629 cable to the COM port of the PC and to the Analyzer port of the machine.

PROGRAM SETUP

Run the JLG Analyzer through the start menu. If installed in the default location, click on Start, Program,
JLG PC Analyzer 2.1, JLG PC Analyzer 2.1. A screen like below should appear.

In the lower right hand corner, select the appropriate COMM port. To find which COMM port is the
correct one, go to Start (in the lower left part of your Desktop), Settings, Control Panel, System, click on
the ‘Hardware’ tab at the top of the window, Device Manager, and expand the Ports (COM/LPT) tab by
click on the ‘+’ beside it. Find which COMM port is labeled Communications or USB Communications.
Close all of the windows you opened to find this number and choose the correct COMM port in the
Analyzer software.

Click the 'Connect' Button below the COMM port selection box. After a brief pause, the PC Analyzer
'screen' should now display the regular analyzer screen.

Using the 'arrow' graphics buttons, the software can be navigated like the standard analyzer.

Issues Using the PC Analyzer:

Common problems using the PC analyzer are mostly caused by the wrong selection of COMM port. At
times when the appropriate COMM port has been selected, and the software remains unresponsive, cycle
the power on both the PC and JLG machine.
