1. The English Department was able to successfully conduct the 1st SLAC (School Learning
Action Cell) Session knowing that the assigned speakers/facilitators for such activity
gave their utmost capacity in sharing thoughts about various teaching strategies that
will help improve the Quarterly MPS in English.
2. The entire program went smooth since preliminary activities (e.g. Opening Prayer,
Nationalistic Song, Energizer, Welcome Remarks, etc.) were laid down. Also, the STE 7-
Alcala classroom (Ms. Leny Palomeras’s classroom) was ventilated and well-lit.
3. English teachers participated in the learning session through asking questions and
giving additional inputs in relation to strategic interventions for the increase of MPS.
4. The English Department was not in complete attendance since two teachers were sick.
Recommendations:
1. The conduct of the 1st SLAC (School Learning Action Cell) Session played a vital role in
transforming educators into highly competent individuals.
2. There is a need to have a weekly SLAC Session just to strengthen the professional
aspect of the teachers. With such activity, everyone shall be enlightened on how to
integrate 21st century skills/approaches in the classroom.

Upon engaging SLAC, teachers were able to ponder that inculcating the learners
entails a lot of hardships. Some common problems experienced and are presently
experiencing by them are reluctance of the students to study, habitual absenteeism and
the inability of the students to comprehend especially in English. When it comes to
students’ comprehension, this has placed English at the lowest in terms of the MPS.
Evidently, most students are now having difficulty in processing ideas. This gave the
teachers an idea that students are poor in vocabulary. They must be reinforced and
motivated to read more as they are required to master and develop in themselves the
skills/competencies of the target language, English.
The SLAC transpired in the afternoon. There was a simultaneous conduct of the
break-out sessions for all the learning areas. All subject departments were convened at
the different classrooms and for every department there were assigned
facilitators/speakers who discussed essential topics relating to teaching interventions.
For the English Department, the four speakers assigned were Mr. Lido C.
Manicane, Mr. Carlo A. Doinog, Mr. Samuel A. Repelente and Ms. Jessica C. Macaranas. All
of them focused on one topic which is ‘Strategic Interventions to Improve MPS’. To
capsulize everything they discussed, we can definitely say that in order to increase the
level of MPS one has to integrate set of best practices, initiate macro skills-centered tasks,
remediate the low-performing and problem students, limit students’
absenteeism/tardiness, set the level of expectations higher and most importantly seek
own professional development.
The SLAC ended successfully assuring everyone that necessary inputs were shared
as imperative for molding the minds of today’s youths.
